This review is actually for Bassett Furniture which has a Showroom located in the Warehouse at Huck Finn. I purchased a sofa and matching loveseat at Bassett Furniture in October 2021. MADE in the USA! The sales associate/design consultant I had was Paras Hilstro who was knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. She answered all of my questions that day and later in several emails. I was allowed to borrow 10 fabric samples to take home which helped me make a decision. I was able to place my order by phone which was very good. My furniture was arrived at Bassett two weeks ahead of the projected date. It was delivered 6 days before Thanksgiving which was perfect since I was hosting for the holiday. The delivery was flawless from competence of delivery men to setting up the furniture. I highly recommend Bassett Furniture for quality and value. In addition, I highly recommend Design Consultant Paras Hilstro for her excellent service including knowledge of this furniture line. read more

Be careful. I purchased a set of shelves for a home office; metal frame with engineered wood shelves. The floor model was lovely. When my shelves arrived, the shelves were unfinished and metal frame was dinged. I paid almost $450 for the unit, assembly, and delivery. I needed the unit so I finished the shelves myself. read more

I was so excited for warehouse prices, the selection was huge!. But as I started to look around I noticed the prices ... holy $#@%, i mean cow it maybe a warehouse but these were not warehouse prices, for example TV trays Walmart style TV tables reg $200 priced at $110, who sell TV tray tables for $200 and mark them down to $110!? That is still $80 more at mark down than everyone sells them. I went to Walmart and saved $80. The lamps, good god did God make these lamps cuz they were priced as he made the lamps himself and didnt look like they were special so I went 15 mins up the street to another furniture store in Albany and got lamps on sale $50 each and they were really nice looking lamps, not tacky looking. This place is fun to look around in but when you advertise as a "warehouse prices" and price the stuff so high and to show a mark down and still higher market pricing. Someone should be fired for faults advertising. So sad, I left and when up the street and bought the dining room set A 5 piece SET at $400 same quality same look at this place I would have to buy the table and chairs separately and that would've put me at $1000 or more... I love the Huck Finn's concept but we've just been burned by the execution too many times in a row now. Warning: a humorless negative review ensues. Here's how it went the last three visits: Visit 1: I call ahead to make sure an item is in stock. I give them the item number and size from a previous visit. They assure me it is. I arrive 45 minutes later, and am told when I get out on the floor not only don't have it in stock, they don't carry it at all in the size I want. Visit 2: Purchase small futon couch frame for a guest room. Wait the now-typical forever at the loading dock to get said frame. Open box at home, discover hardware kit is in a plastic baggy, there are no assembly instructions, and several hardware pieces appear to be missing. We eventually figure things out and assemble with some leftover Ikea hardware. After several calls to the store, complaining we got an obvious return that they hadn't bothered to mark down or tell us about, we finally get issued a partial store credit....which they cannot find in their system, even with the original slip provided, on Visit 3. Visit 3: Wait almost two hours at the loading dock this time while they search back and forth for first two missing boxes, then one, in the flat-assemble we're buying. When I point out the parts they bring out for missing box 1 are from a different country of origin and manufacturer from box 2, I am told this is how they come. (At home, later, the finishes do not match). The second missing box is never located, but they bring out the parts ripped from another set (why not the box?) separately, with the hardware loose (and screws that don't match). The piece assembles at home, again thanks to extra parts from other furniture and some on the spot modifications. Returns? Can they return my time? It's easier to return an internet order these days, at least they pick up. So, that is pretty much the end of going to Huck Finn's for us. The lure of good pricing and not putting up with the usual sales heavy-handedness is minor compared to the nightmare of not getting the right parts. Their inventory system is obviously a disaster and no amount of "I'm sorrys" makes up for waiting for hours on a day off work for mismatched pieces. I just feel like a schmuck for sticking with them. read more

Beware,sales people with forked tongue. What should have been a good experience turned into nightmare when a $200.oo ottoman came damaged with the $1500 couch. Tina the salesperson blamed everything but the weather on how this could not have happened. No inventory so we could not do swap so we asked for money back, OH no,store credit only and then it really went downhill, she says to my wife "your old You know how it works". A SHADOW OF IT'S FORMEER SELF Back in the day, this was THE PLACE to buy furniture! They had such an enormous selection, it was IMPOSSIBLE not to find something you liked. So now the owners are converting the building into apartments, and the furniture store has shrunk to just half of one floor. There's still good stuff there, but the selection is much smaller. For me, the size of the place was what made it special. Then, there's another problem. If you buy something and you want to take it, you have to go to another building a few blocks away to pick it up. It's a dingy spot behind the RCA dog. It's not well signed, and I had to look for their tiny little sign and then knock on the door to get my stuff. Not a good experience. Next time I'm looking for furniture, I will be heading in a different direction for my first stop to be sure. Im just guessing, but in a few more years it will probably be all apartments and then what was once Albany's best furniture store will be completely gone. A great story but a sad ending. read more

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM HERE Very unprofessional. We moved to Albany and based on review we decided to buy some of our furnitures from here. We spent over 1500 here buying 2 mattress, 2 boxes, 2 Beds and a Dining Table set. We asked them if they would help us set up the furnitures and they told us with extra cost they would and we were okay with it. A week before delivering the furnitures, we called them to let them know in advance that we do require to install the furnitures. The lady on phone said it's impossible because we are apparently supposed to tell them that way before and now it's too late. No one told us that we had to do that and no one definitely ever asked us if we want to install the furnitures or not. One of the furnitures also came late and wasn't delivered on the same day as the other ones because they forgot it was part of our order. We had to install all the furnitures our selves and they were the lowest quality. I have a disk on my back that is slightly moved from my spine and it's really difficult to install furnitures for me. Even after installation of the furnitures, The dining table was wiggly and one of the main bed felt like it was gonna break just from sitting on it. One of them ended up breaking. The frame on the corner broke into two pieces. The person sleeping on it was most likely 150-160 lbs and now we can't do anything about it. It hasn't even been a year and something like this we spent so much money on is absurd to have such a low quality. I had high hopes from this place and wanted to buy more things but when a company does not inform us of their policy of installations and forgets to give us our products and the products end up being a waste of money and time it really becomes frustrating. We had friends and family that were regular customers there because of us but we will all stop going there because of how terrible their service and furnitures are. read more

Mattress purchase looking for warranty info for a failed mattress purchased in 2016. Supplied pics and tags but not the "tag" that would give them what they said they needed to go with the guarantee. Nolan found my sales papers straight off and forwarded me off to Dave in the bedding department. Nolan told me they no longer sold the brand I had purchased. Dave told me no guarantee on mattress unless the Do Not Remove under penalty of Law tag was still on it. Apparently it is not on the mattress. They will not acknowledge the warranty and keep passing the buck. I have purchased many things from Capel Rugs to furniture but will never go back. Hey people do not remove your labels it makes an easy way out and null and void to your item. He insists they tell everyone not to remove labels. Awaiting a call from the store manager. I expect nothing. Sketchy is this process. They have overpriced junk. Thank goodness for Wayfair and online options. I will never go back and if this info changes I will update. Why buy local. Also, you can shop by appointment. The store is empty and you get excellent customer service, but that is beside the point. Ashley met me at the door, she had my mattress pad ready with a sanitized shopping cart and walked me to the cashier. In and out with exactly what I needed. Since my move to NYS a few years ago, I have made three purchases at Huck Finn's. All have been very positive experiences. The first time I went I needed several items for my new house and my girlfriend suggested we go there. I wound up purchasing a Lane cedar chest for a very good price; fortunately, it fit in my girlfriend's truck! The second time I went specifically to look for a white wicker mirror, and, of course, they had one - on sale! My third trip was to find furniture for a family room. I needed two sofas, and went to four other stores (for comparison purposes) before ending up at Huck Finn's. Lorraine in Bassett spent a lot of time with me, looking at sofas and picking fabric for the sofas and pillows. She really knows her product, and has a good eye for design! We pretty much had it nailed down, and I was just waiting for my boyfriend to come and try it out to ensure that it was comfortable for him (as he was making the purchase) when I wandered upstairs to their outlet area. There I found a matching three piece sofa, love seat and club chair set for under $900 (!), which was 1/3 of what the Bassett sofas would have cost. While the fabric wasn't the poppy red color I initially wanted - it was a durable microfiber in a neutral tone that would 'work' and be practical with our three cats and dog in mind - and wasn't the quality wasn't the same as Bassett, it was American (not China) made and very comfortable. When I went back downstairs to tell Lorraine in Bassett that we had made the other purchase upstairs, she couldn't have been nicer about it. I felt bad because she had been so helpful. She is an asset to that store! From my experience, I believe you can find just about anything you are looking for, and any price/quality level, at Huck Finn's. They honored the 15% coupon that would have been applicable the weekend following our purchase, bringing the cost of the three items to $850 delivered. Sure, it's not 'forever' furniture, but it will do us just fine right now. And if/when I need to replace it, you know where I will go. I should also mention that the two young men, Jason and Jon, who delivered my new furniture, could not have been more professional and helpful. While this was not part of their responsibilities, they put my old (and quite heavy, I might add) sofa in the garage for me. I was extremely grateful for this act of kindness. The salespeople I encountered on all three occasions were pleasant without being pushy. And Lorraine in Bassett is a true professional! I have recommended her highly, and hope to come back to her in the future. read more

In reading the other reviews, the common thread you will notice is the term "cheap". Huck Finn's certainly does off an ample supply of cheap, assembly-required furniture. However, to be fair, they have a lot of nice stuff too. It is a warehouse, and it certainly feels like a warehouse. If you want a cozy-feeling furniture store with nicely decorated and staged rooms that look like you could move right in, this is not the place for you. If you are willing to sacrifice the time to weed through a sea of uncomfortable, tacky furniture to find a deal on something that meets your needs, you will be glad you came here. Maybe it's just me, but I find it pretty amusing to peruse their hideous assortment of floral, 80's print and multi-patterned couches. Okay, it's probably just me. A couple years back the hubby and I bought a bunch of stuff here to accommodate a new, larger apartment... including a china cabinet, entertainment center, coffee table, end table, desk and mattress set. It's all very high quality stuff -- heavy, solid wood, classic/ contemporary style -- and we got a great deal. It was a little difficult finding staff to help us while we shopped, but they were very helpful once we tracked them down. We were particularly impressed with the staff person (Bill? Bob?) who helped us select a mattress, which otherwise would have been a very daunting task. Huck Finn's must have 100 mattresses to choose from, and this guy was very knowledgeable. He spent a ton of time helping us figure out which type of mattress would meet both our needs, and then helped us decide on a brand. In the end, he sold us on a cheaper no-name mattress with a longer warranty, which we have been very happy with. The delivery charge for everything was very reasonable, and the two guys who delivered the furniture were polite, professional and most importantly, gentle with our stuff. So, in summary, if you have some time to kill on bargain shopping and prefer dealing with with non-pushy salespeople -OR- if you're looking for some cheap assembly-required furniture for your dorm room, check out Huck Finn's. read more

I've bought a few things from here over the years. I feel like sometimes the quality is up in the air, which can be good or bad. they have a very wide selection, very "something for everybody" which is really nice. The last thing we bought here was a crib and dresser. Both were very high quality. Unfortunately, we live out int he sticks and they only deliver to our neck of the woods on Tuesdays, and you don't find out what time on Tuesday's until the day before, meaning I'd have to take the entire day off from work. We decided to rent a uhaul and pick it up ourselves, which was easy enough. Didn't feel like the sales was very pressured, which was nice. PS, don't go here if you don't like Subway. There's one in the store and the entire place smells like Subway. read more

Is this place tacky? Yes. Is the Huck Finn-themed decor too much? Yes. That said, Huck Finn's has been very helpful with my two big "adult" purchases. I graduated from college and needed a couch. My boyfriend at the time was wigging out at about used couches and I think we had a big fight about it. I was pro- secondhand couch- he was not. We needed a compromise. So we went here and found a decent couch for under $400. They delivered it and dragged it up our rickety three flights of stairs. It was a pain, and it was even more of a pain when I moved it out of that apartment. Eventually we broke up. I kept the couch. In fact, I'm sitting on it right now and it sure is comfortable. In fact, after said breakup, I used it as my bed for a couple of weeks before deciding I needed to go make my next purchase. I laid down on all of the mattresses and finally settled on a nice and well-priced queen-sized posturepedic. They were not surly or rude when they delivered for me. In conclusion, while I would not want to decorate my home using Huck Finn's lamps or housewares, sometimes it's the best place to find the very basics - like a mattress. read more

I purchased several items totaling around $1600 and was disappointed in the quality and style of the furniture. One of the pieces I bought on their website (sight unseen) which I suppose could partly be my fault -- but it didn't look nearly as good as the website and had an old grandma appearance. A sofa from Bassett (located inside Huck Finn's) didn't fit through one of my interior doors, which the store salesgirl never bothered to consult me on to avoid such a problem. The item had to be returned for a hefty restocking fee and the delivery guy scraped my walls trying to get the couch through the interior door. The main problem with Huck Finn's is you have to ASSEMBLE THE FURNITURE. For this reason I will never order from Huck Finn's again. There should be a massive sign and verbal warning saying, "FURNITURE ARRIVES IN A BOX AND YOU HAVE TO ASSEMBLE YOURSELF." (The couch was the only thing that arrived assembled.) When you buy from normal furniture store they have the delivery guys bring everything in and assemble the furniture if needed -- and use stronger fasteners/screws/etc than is designed for self-assembly. (And one of the chests I assembled just broke two weekends ago when someone sat on it.) The store has a grungy look and frankly the reduced cost of the furniture isn't enough to make up for the mediocre furniture quality and self-assembly required. You get what you pay for. read more

On 6/3/12 I had a desk put on layaway. I was not told the desk would come to my house unassembled. I purchased the desk on the phone 7/7 and once again was not told anything about the desk not being assembled. I get the bill and I see in big letters that assembly is my responsibility. I had no idea. I called on Sunday to ask what the delivery charge would be. I talked to shipping -- he had no idea. He referred me to customer service. She has no idea. She referred me to the desk department. He had no idea. They told me to call the office Monday morning. That was 18 minutes wasted. I cancelled the order. Huck Finn's customer service team called me on Monday. The woman on the phone told me that, because it is a special item, if I want a refund, I would lose 50% of the purchase price. This information is not printed anywhere in their documentation. I spoke to another individual. He repeated the same false information. I asked for the item to be delivered to me without being assembled. A nice man in their sales office later called, apologized for the misunderstanding and offered me free delivery. Nice, but it took an hour on the phone and talking to six people to get to that point. I would strongly recommend not buying from this place unless you can pick up the item and assemble it. read more

I have been shopping at Huck Finns for years and even worked there for some time. I have to tell you that most people are totally wrong when they tell you what they think Huck Finns is all about. So today you decide you want to go shopping for something. Maybe its something that you need or maybe just something you want. We all know we either have money we know we can spend, money we cant or dont have to spend, or money we want to spend. When you go to Huck Finns you can buy something inexpensive that fills your need or wants but you can also can find something of high quality that will cost alittle more if thats your style. Its totally a myth that they dont have quality name brand furniture. You cant just walk in and make and assumption like some of you out there. You have to look around and ask some questions. What do you think you are a furniture expert? They have the same stuff plus more than any of their competitors and better prices. Their customer service is unbelievable and their sales people arent pushy but right there when you need them. What a place. Filled with everything for your home at great prices. Lets put it this way....if you were shopping for a car, Huck Finns is like having Kia, Hyundia, Ford, Honda, Chevy, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Jeep, Pontiac, Mercury, Nissan, Saab, Toyota, Infinti, Lexus, BMW, Audi, Volvo, Mercedes, Jaguar...and maybe even couple a Ferraris all on the same lot. I've heard the ads, listened to friends go on about how great this place was, and when it came time to buy a sofa, I made sure it was a stop on my list. This place is as big as they say - it's in an old warehouse in downtown Albany. I've shopped in many warehouses converted to retail places - this one was great! It was warm, clean (really, really clean), well lit, and the staff was friendly (but not underfoot). Their staff all wear purple - purple sweatshirts, polos, etc. We were shopping for a reclining sofa - we found that section of the store quickly, just by following the (somewhat goofy) signage. One salesman stopped over to let us know he could hep with any questions, then promptly went back to what he was doing. Our questions were answered quickly and knowledgeably, but otherwise, the staff wasn't hovering. We didn't find a sofa in a color we liked - not their fault, we are picky. But we sat on over 100 sofas that met our criteria (full sized, with dual recliners). On our way out, we stopped to look at carpets - I'm not sold on a carpet for the living room, she is. Their selection was excellent, and there were even a few that I could see in my living room. They had very nice stuff, and surprisingly they had 8x10 carpets from under $100 to over $1000. If you shopped Home Depot for carpets, go to Huck's - they literally have several thousand to choose from, compared to HD's 30-40. Despite the advertising gimmicks, I was thoroughly impressed with the quality and variety of this store's offerings. read more

A very large store with furniture, accessories, rugs, and carpets. The had a large selection of area rugs, mostly with a Persian theme and pretty cheap prices. There was a large selection of brand name furniture that was pretty expensive, in my opinion, as the items they carry we've seen elsewhere for less. Upstairs, however, is a different story. A good variety of stuff for reasonable prices. They even have unfinished furniture which they will finish for you, or not, in a variety of stains and colors. Love, Love LOVE Huck Finn's - I have enjoyed every single stop there; I've been frequenting the business since I moved to the area in June, and I keep returning because the customer service is fantastic (I love when I can have an actual conversation with a CSR and they're engaged and friendly without being pushy about the sale), the selection is pretty good and the prices are fantastic. There are no words to describe how fantastic our visit to Huck Finns was. We have shopped and purchased at several well known,"high end" furniture stores over the last 40 years, and none of them compared to the great experience we had here. What an exceptional staff they have there...When we first walked into the showroom, we met two of the nicest sales staff....Harold and Calvin! Not your typical salesmen....both were funny, informed, and smart enough not to follow us around. They gave us plenty of space, yet when we needed to ask a question they were right there. A perfect experience which made it a pleasure to quickly choose 2 recliners in less time than we've ever experienced because of the product knowledge of Harold and Calvin! We didn't have to wander around looking at a bizzillion recliners....Harold immediately took us to exactly what we needed....what a pleasure! These salesmen were just wonderful!! The day before delivery, we called & a terrific gentleman named Nolan answered....thankfully for us...Not only did Nolan arrange a time change to accommodate us, he actually called me day of delivery unsolicited to make sure all was ok ! What exceptional service! We especially want to mention the gal who is the glue to this entire experience...a young lady named PATTY, who absolutely went out of her way each and every time I called to help, to problem solve, to call back with additional information, to handle issues with grace, courtesy, competence, a great sense of humor and most importantly an amazing problem solver! I hope Huck Finns knows and appreciates Patty because she impressed us beyond description! This girl seemed to work 24/7...yet always pleasant & accommodating. I don't know how she does it! First time purchase last night. I will not be going back. Sales rep helpful, her name was Heather. Pleasant friendly girl. I bought a $59 Sauder bookshelf. It was at Staples for $99, so I figured, why not? Went around back to pick it up and the guy handed me a box that had obviously been re-taped. So I figured, okay, damaged box, they probably inspected it and since it won't sell retail at say, Staples, I'm getting a good deal on it. Many of the pieces were marred and and this is obviously someone else's damaged garbage being sold retail at Huck Finn. I'll live with it, Huck, but you never get a 2nd chance to make a first impression. I have a touch up pen. I'll deal with it, because I don't feel like lugging it back down there. However, you just lost a repeat customer and got a bad review. Ah, the power of the Internet. You sell junk. That's why it's cheap. read more

This placed is just swamped with disaster. It's like an industrial barn, filled with furniture that really nobody wants, and yet, for those not concerned about their place looking either ramshackled, not tasty, or something out of a 1970s saw mill, such as I, it's a great place to find super, super cheap stuff. I bought the cheapest small carpet/rug they had for my dorm room back in sophomore year. This thing was the cheapest they had at 39 bucks. It was leopard print. And not very comfortable at all, I threw it out 2 years later. You walk in, and basically there are a few staff members, who are helpful enough. There are stairs. Take them to the top floor, where you'll find things like bars, couches, etc. Go downstairs and you'll find all those nightstands that were probably left out to rot but somehow ended up here. Oh and it's very dusty of course, how can it not be, it's Huck Finn's Warehouse. The reason why it gets 3 stars is still because it's incredibly cheap, and if you're not the Target type, and a student, or a struggling couple, go here. A good place to go to get lower cost, value home furnishings. It's literally like a garage sale with piles of stuff and displays over the whole floor. Helpful salespeople roam around. Other stores have half the help, so it's a nice change. However checkout and pickup is an ordeal. Budget at least an extra half hour, more if there's a line longer than three people, to pay and get your stuff. Puts a damper on another wise unique bargain shopping experience. read more

I am sorry to read all the negative comments on here about Huck Finn's Warehouse. I have several pieces of furniture, rugs and small items from them. The best about Huck Finn's is they have something for all budgets and layaway to go along with it. Our most recent purchases, were a recliner chair, a mattress set and (although we had to take it off of our layaway) a beautiful entertainment center. We had put them all on layaway and were paying a little bit at a time for them. Unfortunately, we had to take the entertainment center off of layaway because we had some major things happen and could not afford to get them all at the time. I explained my story and they were very nice about it. When I made my final payment, they set up a delivery date as we live in Vermont and they were delivered on time by some wonderful guys, who stayed in touch with me so I wasn't just waiting around for them. We will be heading back over soon to buy a few more pieces of furniture as soon as our taxes come back. I would recommend this store to anybody. read more

I went in with a budget and found almost everything I needed for my new apartment. It's great that they offer good, better, and best in all departments. I now have a very nice living room, a new bedroom and a great kitchen table and chair set. The salespeople were not on top of me as soon as I walked in, I got a friendly greeting as I walked in and was allowed to shop at my own pace with help only when I asked for it. The furniture at Huck Finn's is pretty cheap, which is why I went there to pick up a couple things for my new apartment. I came home for the weekend, and Huck Finn's is just a 50 minute drive away, so I figured, why not? I had never been here before, so I was sort of surprised that Huck Finn's Warehouse really is...a warehouse! And it's huge. I was looking for a small, two-seater table for my teeny tiny kitchen and a desk chair for my...you guessed it, my desk, and there were more than enough of each to choose from. When it comes to customer service here, it was decent for the most part. The sales reps came over and asked me if I needed help with anything, and when I said I was still looking, they left me alone (I really don't like when they follow you like some sort of annoying talking shadow). However, it did get a little weird when two of the employees got into a squabble over who was going to "get" my sale when i was purchasing my desk chair. I left the store feeling pretty pleased with my purchases. But when I got home to assemble them, I wasn't quite so happy. The table was practically impossible to put together, even with my father's help (and he's good at that kind of stuff). And once it was assembled, one of the legs was shorter than the rest of them! But considering I got a good price on it (110 dollars for a 3 piece set), I think I will just suck it up and put a piece of cardboard underneath it. I guess you get what you pay for! read more

Bought a high top table, chairs and a rug...all are solid so far (it's been a week). Easy to build, quality is apparent.

We recently purchased two pieces of furniture for our family room. A friend recommended HF. Having somewhat expensive tastes, I was rather doubtful that I would find anything I'd like. Surprisingly, my husband did find two pieces that worked nicely with our decor and our budget. Our salesperson, Lorraine, is who really made shopping at HF a positive experience. She was delightful, knowledgable and professional. I wouldn't hesitate to return and would always ask for Lorraine. Another plus -our furniture had to be custom ordered and it actually was delivered earlier than we expected. read more
