We have two big pups... Its hard to find a good kennel that has the space to take care of them.. HFK has always taken great care of our dogs.. The beasties are happy when we get there, and then happy when we pick them up! No scared dog smell as you sometimes get at kennels. The dogs are always well taken care of and happy. The kennels have several buildings, and more importantly lots of open runs and fields that all of the dogs can play and romp in... The bonus is that when we get them home they are ready for a long nap! read more

Best place to board our dog! She loved the outdoor space and the pool...I didn't know she loved the water so much. Our Doberman has a tendency to get out of fenced areas. This place is setup to contain escape artists like ours. I like the convenient check-in and drop-off. We had our dog boarded for 10 days. The staff sent video's on request but didn't over do it like some services. Our pet looked slimmed down from all the exercise which is good for her. We love this place for our dogs. Lucy was well cared for when she was there. Our current dog is there now and Diggory is well loved and cared for at Huck Finn. Great play places. Frequent video up loads so we can see Diggory playing with the other dogs. They segregate the dogs by size and screen out bad actors when they need to. Our dog ESCAPED due to inadequate training, procedures, and facilities. We dropped our small dog off on Thursday, who then escaped on Friday afternoon/evening. We were not contacted until Saturday morning. We immediately cancelled our vacation and drove the 5hrs back to try and find our dog. At first Huck was helpful in the search but grew increasingly agitated as we kept coming back to search. Eventually he lost his temper and refused to let us set traps in the kennel property, where our dog had been spotted recently. He repeatedly called my husband a "mother******" and told me to "Find your own dog." We ended up calling the sheriff on him for his threats of violence. He never once said he was sorry or showed concern for our dog, only his business. PLEASE don't risk losing your dog with Huck Finn Kennels. Thankfully we were able to catch our dog Sunday night/Monday morning with traps set surrounding Huck's property with the support of the very kind neighbors. read more

Sad to say this kennel has suffered with the change in management/ownership. We have used this kennel for three dogs. One has since passed away and our current dogs are ages 10 1/2 and 2 years. The two dogs (golden doodles) were boarded over New Year's 2023 and when we picked them up, they seemed a bit more tired than usual but that's to be expected with all of the outside play time. However, within 3 days both dogs started coughing and exhibiting all the signs of kennel cough. Barking cough, low energy, coughing up slimy phlegm-- it's awful! I contacted Linda, the current owner, and she replied that they haven't heard any coughing and have had no reports, insinuating that my dogs caught kennel cough somewhere else, I guess? The timeline of their symptoms absolutely points to an outbreak at Huck Finn and gives me enough concern about their boarding practices -- do they actually confirm vaccination status, are their indoor facilities over crowded and/or not well ventilated? Something has changed for the worse and we will not be returning. Again, sad as this has been a great kennel for us for almost 15 years. read more

If your dog has sep anx, high energy or a loud bark Huck Finn might not be for you. We moved from a large city, so my dog was used to large daycares that provide all day play and he always had a blast. When I found Huck Finn, I was excited because it sounded a lot like what my we were used to! The first few stays were fine, aside from the snide, sarcastic comments about his "loud, squeaky" bark I got EVERY TIME I picked him up. I never know what to say to that, except I'm sorry he has a "loud, squeaky bark?" ‍ My dog barks to play and to communicate, much like most dogs, but since he's larger than the standard chihuahua apparently it's too much to handle. The last and final time we left him for boarding, I was met with a grumpy employee who took my money and proceeded to tell me "Your dog can't come back unless he wears a shock collar or is sedated." Now, I'm not 100% on my dog's side; his bark IS loud and he has extreme high energy. Oddly enough though, I've NEVER had an issue taking him to other daycares/boarding places. In multiple states. But bottom line, if you run a dog daycare/boarding, you should know how to handle all types of dogs and not make their owner feel awful about something they can't change! Or specify you only take "good" dogs. And you most certainly should not tell the customer to place a shock collar on their dog! read more

If I could leave a review with zero stars I would. I contacted the kennel this evening via their website to make a boarding reservation for our two dogs in February. We have a 6 year old American Bulldog, Maverick, and a 5 year old Labrador, Goose. They are total sweet hearts. I received an email from Linda informing me they do not board American Bulldogs. Maverick is a totally laid back dog who has boarded in several locations in 3 different states, in both kennel settings and veterinary clinic settings. He has been temperament tested several times at different facilities and always passes with no issues. Instead of being responsible and requesting a temperament test, this facility chooses to practice breed discrimination. Based on another review it seems they also won't board pit bull type dogs. I can't support a business that practices breed discrimination and hope you won't either. read more

I have used Huck Finn Kennels for two years now and my dogs always loved it. My last experience with them however was very disappointing. I have a high energy dog that is always on the go. When I picked him up he was limping and was not his high energy self. He had difficulty jumping into the car and refused to eat once we were home. I called the Kennel to find out if they had noticed anything and how long it had been going on. I was met with a very aggressive owner who yelled at me and responded with "well ,don't know what to tell you,they run around and he is fat" The fact that a high energy dog went from 100 to just about zero and they didn't even notice is very discouraging. I was told that they are watched when they are out playing but it sounds like that's not the truth. I understand a dog can overdo it while playing, what is not ok is the aggressive attitude I was met with when simply asking if they had noticed anything while my dog was in their care. A lengthy story about how he gets sore when he water skies and a smart ass response of " we will meet you at the vet with our big fat checkbook" was not necessary. Everybody else at the Kennel has always been very friendly and has never met questions with such hostility. When I told the owner his communication was aggressive and uncalled for and that I would go somewhere else in the future he still would not stop and continued to unload on me. On an additional note,I sent my other dog with just enough food for their 4 day stay and she came home with two cans left indicating that they did not follow her feeding instructions. We found this place because of the high Yelp ratings after searching for a place that our large, older dog could stay where she would not be in a tiny cage all day. These guys are absolutely fabulous. I can't say enough good things about them. Their kennels are spotless and the dogs can be indoor our outdoor as they please. Plus they have very large, grassy, well fenced play areas where the dogs can go out and play. The areas have double gates to help prevent escapees. The yards have trees and bushes for shade during the hot summer and they even put out kiddie pools for the dogs to frolik in when its hot. They are very careful to ensure that dogs get along and that they are a good fit. Before we could board her for a longer time, we had to schedule an initial eval/play date (charged as a day of doggie daycare) so that they could be sure that Frankie would do well and would play well with others. I liked that as it also gave me a chance to see what kind of shape she returned in and if she seemed to be stressed at all by the stay. She's 12 years old and so that's a big worry. No issues there, she was spunky and happy when I arrived and seemed to be sad to say goodbye to her playmates from the day. They also are careful to put dogs of similar size and activities together. Older dogs go in the older dog area, hunting/active dogs in another, small dogs in another. I would have never thought of that, but they seem to have thought of everything. They are extremely caring - and when we had to leave her with them for an extended period of time, they even sent me photos of her playing with others when I checked in periodically to make sure all was ok. They are a little more per day, but they don't nickel and dime you to death, charging you a daily rate plus bucks for walking, bucks for this, bucks for that. They do charge a very reasonable fee if they have to administer medications. Highly, highly recommended! read more

I rarely write reviews, but this experience compels me to participate in the online review community. Very poor care and poor business practices. I am new to the Tri-cities area and had to board my dogs while out of town. I chose Huck Finn's Kennel as I loved the idea of a lot of play time. Shortly after the excitement of picking her up, I noticed in the car that she had a huge abscess on her paw. I sent a picture to Meadow Hills Veterinary Clinic to get their input as I had no idea what I was dealing with. They instructed me to definitely bring her in the next day. I contacted the owner, Huck, alerting him to what happened along with a copy of the date stamped email so he would know that it was the same day I picked her up. In my correspondence, I requested that the kennel reimburse me for the vet costs, to which he replied, that they had no responsibility in the matter and wished Pebbles well. My dog was in their care for 5 days. I do not know how this went unnoticed and untreated. The only way I feel that something like this could go missed is either too many dogs for the staff to properly take care and be aware of each dog's health OR it was noticed and ignored. Either way, not good. I would like to think that it simply got past them as mistakes happen. But the owner's complete unwillingness and dismissiveness regarding taking any responsibility for the condition of Pebbles' paw and the cost of treatment is what is the most distressing. Our dogs our like children to us. When we board them, we are saying we trust you to take good care of them. If you feel like I do, I strongly recommend you definitely not board your dog at Huck Finn Kennels in Kennewick Washington! read more

A Family Owned Kennel!! The best place for your little ones.They get the best care and the best " Free "play time.My dog, Teddy is so happy over there. He comes back home tired and exhausted from playing..lol..and always happy to go back. Teddy had to stay there for a month and half due to an unexpected emergency.There was no way we could get him. We were new to Tri-cities and it was Teddy's first time at Huckfinn kennels.Huck was so kind enough to have him there beyond the booked time period of " 2 weeks" and took care of him really well and was very patient with our daily phone calls!! Our dog is completely happy there and we are fully satisfied with their service. For Teddy (20lbs) it's $16 a day. Recently they made a change of a " minimum 2 days fees" for a single day! Yes.. $32 for a one night stay..but your baby is happy there!!:) I recommend this place to all dog owners. read more

We can't write a review on the care at this kennel, but we can on the awful way we were treated by Huck himself. We are looking for a place to care for our two dogs, a sliver lab and a Husky, when we go out of town for a few days. Huck Finn had some pretty good reviews so we thought we would drive out and see the facility. Yelp showed they were open on Sunday 8:30-noon. We arrived around 10:15 to a closed gate and signage that stated by appointment only. OK, nothing on the website indicated that, so we called and left a message. We got out of the car and was looking through the fence at what looked like a pretty nice facility. We then got back in the car and was ready to leave when Huck came around the corner and started walking towards us. My wife got out of the car and was directed to "Get back into your vehicle!" Huck opened the gate and came up to us and very rudely informed us that he was tired of "inconsiderate" people coming up to his fence and not obeying the instructions. Normal people don't act like that so it took us by surprise and we continued to be berated by this extremely rude person. In reading other one-star ratings we, apparently, are not alone in this persons treatment. We find it funny that the reviews are either five star or one star...must have caught him on a bad day...regardless, no excuse for the way he talked to us. We wouldn't leave our pets at this facility if it was the last kennel in Washington! read more

Success!! So the previous review was based on a weekend stay. This review is based on leaving Twink for an entire week (about 8 days). Of course, as luck would have it, Twink got sick 2 weeks prior. He ate something and was puking which got him off his normal meds. He has a bum leg and does well with Cosequin but due to him being sick, he was off so he was limping pretty bad. Luckily, the vet put him on some meds and he recovered quickly. When we dropped him off at Huck Finn's, Linda was there and I mentioned that Twink just got over his sickness so he should take it easy and his bum leg leg/shoulder might be a little sore. They noted that on Twink's paperwork. Returning from our vacation, we went to pick Twink up. He was SO HAPPY! YAY!! His tail was up and it was like we just left him there yesterday. He seem a little bit tired but nothing to worry about. I'm sure he had fun with his friends hehe. He was outside with another dog that seem to be an older dog too. He was sad to see Twink go. I know I've read some reviews at other kennels that they leave their dog for a week and when they pick their dog up, they smell bad or they're dirty or they seem hurt. NONE of that happened here with Twink. A young lady was there to check us out and she related that Twink did great. Nothing was wrong and he never appeared to be sore or ill during the entire stay. He played with other dogs and was fine. Another YAY! This was the first time that we've left Twink for this long and I am SO glad that Twink enjoyed himself and was taken care of. Now that we've found a place where we feel good about leaving Twink, we feel more at ease about being able to go places and not worry. Prior, my boyfriend and I would take turns staying home to watch him. We've already scheduled for Twink to stay another weekend in Oct. Already recommended this place to a few others and we'll keep on coming back! We highly recommend this kennel! read more

Beyond rude and aggressively confrontational. You have to make an appointment to see their facility. We communicated that we have a large dog that we would like to board and made our appointment a week in advance. When we arrived, we were taken to the area where they keep the small dogs. Since we have a large dog, we asked to see where the large dogs were kept. They told us that don't show that to anyone. I asked again explaining that since we would be boarding a large dog, it was important for us to see where the large dogs are kept. Again, we were told that we are not allowed to see where the large dogs are kept. We looked at each other (somewhat dismayed) and I said that I guessed that this wasn't the place for us. She said okay and we left. The meeting itself was very short and anti-climatic. However, we both felt like the appointment felt rather strange and their reluctance to show us the area where our dog would be kept made us feel like they had something to hide. A few minutes later, the owner called and rudely reprimanded me telling me that we had met with his daughter and he didn't appreciate how we talked to her. Then he told us that potential new customers were not important to him and told me that we should look at other kennels in the area. We had already decided to look elsewhere so his phone call was completely unnecessary. I will make sure everyone I know hears about how strange this interaction was and how we were treated. I hope he treats animals better than he treats people. read more

Huck Finn Kennels is awesome!! My three dogs really enjoy going there and Huck provides them expert care. While driving to the kennel, the dogs realize where they are going about a mile away and start going nuts in the car and jump right out when we arrive. Took my dogs there a multiple times. My big dog a puppy at the time.Huck complained barked to much and ruined the weekend. She's a freaken dog in a strange place with a 100 other dogs. We also found our smaller dog would be like depressed " not social " nervous . After that we found another kennel and been using them ever since with no problems . Its hard taking your beloved animals to someone to care for and hope they will be OK. Place we use now, when we come home our dogs are tired from playing. FYI do a walk through of the kennel you chose. Be sure its right for you ! This was not based on one stay but multiple stays. Just moved here a few months ago from the Seattle area and had to board our dog for 4 days. I would never bring my dog or recommend this place to anyone. And that's just based on the extremely poor, condescending customer service that was shown. Obviously they do not care about growing their business or reviews. Hours of operation and access to picking up your pet is ridiculous. This area is underserved in terms of doggy daycare and boarding, which is a shame or am sure few people would put up with it. I've been bringing my pups here for years and cannot say enough about how wonderful the people are, how flexible they are with schedules, how much they love the dogs and it is all reflected by the excitement my dogs show when we pull up into the driveway. They leap out of the car and start sprinting and bouncing around in pure joy to be there. Though it is a little out of the way, Huck Finn is reasonably priced and in proximity to the airport which is helpful since I travel a lot. Thanks Huck and Linda! You guys are awesome! read more

We left our 2 dogs here for 3 nights recently and just wish the place was closer to us so we could do the day care option once in a while. It seems like a really smooth operation. Both of my dogs were able to stay in the same kennel and it was indoor-outdoor so they could go out when they wanted. Depending on personality all the dogs are also able to go out for most of the day and socialize with other dogs in a big yard with nice green grass. I was really impressed by the size of the enclosure and it looked like they had several. I've used other kennels in the area and the enclosures the dogs run around in have always been disappointingly small and sometimes not very clean. My dogs love to run so seeing them out playing in such a big space was really nice. The lady that worked there was very nice too, answering all our questions and letting us see where our dogs would be staying. The only downside I can think of is having to pay cash or check only. Who writes checks anymore? Other than that I highly recommend this place as a clean, safe and fun option for pets. read more

My daughter recently came to visit and needed to board her dog. We had arrangements with a veterinary clinic, but once she saw the facility she was distraught and wanted a real kennel rather than a vet clinic. I suggested Huck Finn. She called and at first the lady who answered the phone was very friendly. As soon as she found out my daughter's dog is a pit bull her tone changed. She said they do not take pit bulls. My daughter said "that seems unfair, can you tell me why?" and at that point she was hung up on. When she tried to call back they put her directly into voicemail. I have used this kennel in the past but they have just lost me as a customer for their very poor and insensitive treatment of my daughter. If they don't take pit bulls, that's fine (not that I agree with it), but hanging up on someone is a terrible way to do business. Our 3 puppies love Huck Finn Kennels. We have boarded them here a number of times and are always very happy with the care they get. The set-up is wonderful with the huge yard for them to play. Most places keep the dogs in kennels and only take them out for exercise for a short time if you pay extra. They aren't confined to kennel space here. I boarded my three dogs here for 7 days. I did get a tour of the facility a month before I left them when I was searching for a place to board my dogs. I am very happy with the care they received.They had a safe, secure yard for them to play in and a kennel large enough for all 3 to stay together. I called when I was gone to see how they were, as they are our children, and was told they were doing good and that I was welcome to call them anytime. When I picked them up they were healthy, well and happy. I will definitely take them back again!!! read more

Our dog loves Huck Finn Kennels! We have been taking our 2 year old, 100 pounder pound puppy to Huck Finn since he was ~ 9 months old. He is so excited to get to play with the other dogs and is always tired (but healthy) when he returns home. The staff at Huck Finn has been very accommodating when we've had a couple of last minute schedule changes. They are also very good at giving us updates about how our guy is doing and will post pictures of him playing. They were also quick to notify us when he seemed like he might be a fence jumper because he wanted to "be with the people" on the other side of the fence (at the time we did not have our own fence so we didn't know). I appreciated the warning and totally understand that if he were to clear the fence he couldn't stay there anymore. If he ever figured out he could get over it, he wouldn't be safe anymore. Luckily it was a one time deal and he is now more interested in playing inside the fence. We hate being away from our family member, but when we have no other choice we know they will take good care of him. read more
