Okay, seriously, this is a a fascinating area and quite a trail for nature lovers. Alexander McGilvray saw an opportunity in 1854 and launched a ferry across the Black River. In 1892, the county built a steel bridge across the river, ending the ferry service. Since McGilvray Road went through backwaters of the Black River and a slough, six wooden bridges were built. The moist environment wrecked wooden bridges quickly, so between 1905 and 1908, a series of five bowstring truss bridges were built with one wooden bridge left behind. The road was closed in 1948 due to flooding, and in 1954 the steel bridge was removed. The five bowstring truss bridges remain in place and a fifth pony truss bridge was relocated here to replace the wooden bridge. The maintenance of the old bridges is accomplished with volunteer labor, the Friends of McGilvray Road in partnership with the Wisconsin DNR. Bowstring trusses, one time plentiful, are now rare and only eight examples remain in Wisconsin - five of those eight are on McGilvray Road. As for the hiking, well, nature has pretty much consumed McGilvray Road, popularly known as Seven Bridges Road. It is a hiking trail, being slowly developed by the Friends of McGilvray Road. You can take the 1.8 mile hike to the Black River and experience a piece of La Crosse County history yourself. Dress appropriately and wear good hiking shoes.The day I visited McGilvray Road, I met a couple on the trail. He was wearing sandals. Not smart. She was wearing cross trainers, still not very smart. Both were wearing shorts - really not smart as the mosquitoes were matched in size and maneuverability to a P-38. No motorized vehicles, in fact, no vehicles at all, including no bicycles. As a hiking trail, two stars. As a great example of private and public sector cooperation, four stars, as an example of historic preservation, five stars. Net result - four stars. I'd go back - would you like to join me?

Erik was awesome with making sure everyone in our group felt comfortable on the segways before we left. it was super cool to see so many areas of La Crosse that I never knew existed. Along the way you see stunning sights and learn about La Crosse history! Super fun and with a reasonable price! The Segways have sensors that balance themselves out for you! It took me about five minutes to get the hang of it! An experience that everyone should get to do!

Unfortunately, we don't appreciate the managing girl, who wears a mask outside, very much. She has little to NO people skills and has no appreciation for Military service, though the owners of the park do. She won't give the military discount on tickets, just the very first one bought. WTF? We bought a bunch of batting cage tokens for the fast pitch baseball machine. Most all the pitches were over our heads. Ridiculous. We told her and she said, " I know ." We need to get it fixed. However, NO refund could be given. We once arrived there and bought Kart racing tokens. After we paid, she immediately went and closed the track because of "potential" rain. She wouldn't give a refund, said the owners would not allow it. BS. It did not rain for 2 hours. We had to use the tokens weeks later on our way through town again. She is terrible. While we were playing the large connect 4, she constantly worried about us picking up the pieces off the ground. Of course we always did, but as soon as the game was over, she'd yell, " are you going to pick-up the pieces ? " Two seconds after the pieces hit the ground. We had to finally tell her to STOP! She was so damn annoying! This girl should not be in any type of customer service position. When we asked for her name to complain to management, she said she couldn't give it due to safety reasons. She is such a bad person to have running your business. If we see her again, we will just leave. Not worth the aggravation. We do love the Karts and the military discount! Too bad the batting cages suck.

We came across RiverJacks because the usual community pool in the area we go to while visiting…read moreWisconsin had not opened yet. Located in the middle of BW Riverfront Hotel, an unusual spot for a "mini water park" but anything to keep my little miss wants to be a fish swimming and happy. It's free to guests of the hotel and $7 for non-guests. My oldest and I soaked up the sun in some lawn chairs(free of charge) while my little fish slid down the slide a dozen times, played volleyball with other kids, and waited for the giant bucket of water to dump on her over and over. They also have a pool table if you want something to do outside the water. They don't sell any but you can bring drinks in but no food allowed, don't let the umbrella covered tables fool you. They do have a small room just outside the gate with a few arcade games and a table to eat at. They also have a bathroom with towels, shower, a blow dryer and a mirror. I liked it because it's not crowded, easier to keep an eye on my little fish and they have a life guard on duty maintaining safety on the slide and adding an extra pair of eyes. All in all a nice little spot to go when it's hot. A great place to go when you're in Wisco!

Back before this place was a park, it was all swamp land. Who knew that this place could have…read moretransitioned into such a beautiful area to bring the kids to run around, play, eat, or swim! The park has many different things to offer from playground equipment, a lake, many soccer fields, and a walking path that encircles the lake and then some (not sure of distance, but a couple miles at least), places to fish, and a large shelter with bathrooms. Some parts of the playground, like the plastic coating on the metal, is starting to come off and is starting to show some age. Some parts may be sharp, so make sure kids are wearing shoes. Otherwise it is a great place to occupy your time with all the different things you can do!
