They charged $125 for the diagnosis (which I would have gladly paid), $125 for a joy ride on my boat (water test that I didnt ask for AND they launch from their parking lot) and $75 for a SECOND computer hook up. Parts and tax = $610 for 4 spark plugs and a harness deal(once again I didn't ask for) and a hours worth of work. Robbery! Don't go here! Eldie was able to get me a great deal on the trolling motor so I bought it and Eldies son Justin and staff member Mason rewired the boat and did an excellent job of installing the motor which is so simple to operate. If you need work on your boat in the Galena or Dubuque area, Eldies should be your first stop. They do outstanding, reliable work and I know they are going to tell me the truth and give me options to resolve the problem. I primarily use my Ranger as a yard tool. On 7/3/18 I went on a trail ride in dusty conditions resulting in a blown engine (1,400 miles) and a $2,400 repair bill. I've visited the large Mega-Stores and to be honest, it's very impressive to see dozens of boats on the floor and more color choices than one can imagine. Being a small Mom and Pop shop that isn't their forte. Their forte is knowing their product and being able to answer questions ranging from the most basic ones to the extremely technical. Have a problem with your boat, ATV, UTV, or other toys, they can fix it. Heck, they even offer boat storage, winterizing and in and out service. They are even able to customize and add accessories ......that remote control windlass will really come in handy! After drooling over a new Pontoon Boat for over a month we decided to take the plunge. My wife Connie was nervous with transitioning from a speedboat to a pontoon and Curt (the owner) is not only going to launch the new boat, he is going to give my wife lessons on how to captain the new larger boat. After the dangerous ride home, I called them and they requested that i bring the unit back to them for repairs. That's right, pull a camper with no brakes back to Rochester with no brakes! I had a local mechanic adjust the brakes for me in my driveway. They told me that they operated everything in the unit to make sure all was functional. But the LP tanks were new/empty. I had to pay a local LP supplier to purge and fill the tanks. It was obvious to me that they did not operate most if any of the appliances prior to delivery. We had numerous failures with this unit and had slow service, along with wrong parts ordered. There was an issue with the hot water heater that they never did correct. I did contact the manufacturer (Forest River) and found out the many of my issues were never reported to them, as Universal had told me. At one point they must have gotten rid of their parts person and I was told that the slow service was due to their having to "catch up" from the back log she created. I finally got an email from the manager, he was less that kind or helpful. I traded off the unit for a far superior unit from another dealer. I personally would avoid Universal Marine and Forest River RV, Poor Quality, Poor Customer Service. but Excellent frustration. I waited over a year to write this review because if I would have written this back then, I would most likely have said things that were driven my emotion not plain facts.
