Tables set dirty for o er 30 min.

When we walked in the place needed tables cleaned and wiped down, the floors looked like they haven't been swept in a week. Sit down and ordered and when they brought our food I asked for sugar for my grits and they brought artificial sweetener so I asked do you have any real sugar, was told no we are out right now, however I saw some on another table so I got some from there. It seems like what help they have does not care what the place looks like or if they have any business. This place used to be great but not so much now.

Whoever the waitress is on Sunday October 10th at 2:34 p.m. was probably one of the rudest person I've ever met in my life.

We walked in the door at 2:34 p.m. Sunday October 10th and the waitress yelled, "get out we are full and we are not using half of our restaurant." That was it, she didn't say please wait outside or could you come back or would you like to order online and take it to go. I have NEVER experienced something like that. My suggestion is nobody should go and let them go out of business.

From the outside, the branding leans heavily into the Route 66 identity--logos are everywhere, setting the expectation for a nostalgic roadside dining experience. Stepping inside, however, the atmosphere takes a different direction. Rather than embracing classic Americana, the décor feels modern, highlighted by whimsical cow artwork adorned with flower crowns. It's charming in its own way, but not the vintage Route 66 ambiance I was expecting. One thing that deserves high praise is the cleanliness. The café is immaculate, from the dining room to the overall presentation, reflecting a team that clearly takes pride in maintaining the restaurant. The food, unfortunately, was less memorable. The oatmeal was overly thick and dry, lacking the creamy comfort you'd expect. Buttered toast carried an off flavor, suggesting the griddle or butter station could use a refresh. The signature pancake, dusted with a powdered sugar "66" logo, was visually appealing and easily the meal's most Instagram-worthy item, but it too was disappointingly dense. Where Cafe 66 truly shines is its service. Every staff member I encountered was warm, welcoming, and eager to help first-time visitors feel at home. Their hospitality left the strongest impression of the visit. In my opinion, Cafe 66 seems to be transitioning away from being a destination built on Route 66 nostalgia and toward becoming a dependable neighborhood café for the Clinton community. There's nothing wrong with that--in fact, it's probably the more sustainable business model. But travelers seeking an authentic trip back in time may leave feeling that the iconic branding promises more nostalgia than the dining experience ultimately delivers.

Water, Orange Juice?-" I said do you have lemonade and she said no, okay that's fine but she said it in the possible most oddest way ever. After that interaction and I got my drink, she left; nother person came and asked what we would like to eat (this was 10 minutes after our drink) , I then said I would have a side salad and mac n cheese. My mom across from me said she has friend chicken, after we gave our order we then waited 30 MINUTES...for a SALAD. Thing is I didn't mind but when I tried it, it really did taste like grass and incredibly earthy and odd and that's when I wasn't exactly happy when I waited for a extra earthy salad... My mac n cheese came, it was delicious!!!!! 15 minutes after this, my moms food came and she said it was really good too. See we loved our food besides the extra earthy salad and almost 45ish minute wait time. On the other hand, when waiting we noticed our server and multiple others would get served before us and get asked how the food was, but not us though and that genuinely had me curious and ruined the whole experience. I love the conversations and the communication like as e.g. "How is the food?" , "How are yall doing today?", these are good things; it did not happen though and we got bluntly ignored. If you work in any restaurant jobs, please have good communication with your customers.

I'm not a huge burger fan, but smashburgers are a whole 'nother story. For those that need to be gluten free, I spoke with the two men running the food truck about their gluten free options. The owner let us know that they use a different spatula and clean the grill every time to prevent cross contamination. The gf bread is special ordered. It's not a bun, but I preferred it this way (buns are too bready and thick). It's more like a patty melt . The bread was good! The whole thing together was AMAZING. The patty was perfectly seasoned and every piece was made with love. You can tell that there's a lot of heart in these burgers and that the owner has a passion to feed others good food. The worker we talked with the most was from the Midwest, like us! He understood second hand how important cross contamination was to someone with celiac or gluten intolerance. He was very cool and it was awesome to hear his story. It was so good to talk with them and it made me feel safe knowing the amount of care they took in preventing cross contamination. The burger we both got was the patty with cheese, grilled onions and pickle. All of the burgers come with the sidewinder fries. They were kind of like a wedge. Loved them. They had another option that also sounded awesome. It has pepper jack cheese, jalapeños and something else I'm missing. If we're ever through there again, we're definitely stopping. I can't wait to see how well they do. They definitely deserve any positive attention and a ton of support. They're both such good people and they make one hell of a burger! Good luck to you both and thank you-- we both appreciate you!

With our dog in tow, we needed pet-friendly seating, and Joe Mountain fit the bill with their outdoor patio. It turned out to be the perfect choice--the weather was beautiful, and the back patio was completely empty, giving us a quiet, relaxing spot to enjoy our meal. The indoor space is small with limited seating, but the patio more than made up for it. The menu is on the smaller side, but the items were unique and definitely caught our attention. My wife ordered the Baffle--a creative take on biscuits and gravy where the biscuit is pressed into a waffle. I went with the Blue Cheese Omelette. Honestly, I never would have thought of putting blue cheese in an omelet, but it worked! It was rich, flavorful, and so memorable that I'm planning to recreate it at home. Drink choices were limited (no sodas except root beer), but we made it work. Service was easy--we were told to order inside when ready, and everything came out promptly. Overall, Joe Mountain was a fun little stop with a quirky menu and a great outdoor setup. We couldn't have picked a better day to visit, as the timing and crowd level made the experience even better. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area, especially if you enjoy patio dining with a pet by your side!
