Eve, abandoned to her own reflection, begins to speak to the wall. It was not her curiosity but his fatigue that initiated the Fall. The professor, caught between admiration and resentment, said: "She writes like a cultural critic." Yes -- because I refused to write like a student rehearsing slogans. To write like a critic means to let language think where the institution cannot. This school was awful. They did not transition well during the COVID 19 pandemic. The professors suck. If you're a different race from the professor, they automatically don't like you. I had Professor Clark for two classes one semester. I took those two classes with a few internship colleagues. I called Professor Clark out to the dean for not answering any of my emails about the homework assignments that I needed more time on. He was answering my friends emails but mine. He ended up giving me two -C's while everyone else received +A's (we worked on our assignments together over discord and I still did not receive the same grade as everyone else). After I reached out to the dean, Professor Clark finally answered me back but very rudely, "There was no need to go to the dean about this issue." Clearly I had to because you're finally answering me now. One math class I took had a Professor who spoke Arabic, not full English yet. She was a very nice woman, but if she didn't know a word in English. She would say it in Arabic, expecting everyone to know wtf that means. She also wasn't able to understand what a student was asking her when they needed help with a problem. I ended up helping that student because I was able to understand what he/she was struggling with. I took a computerized accounting class. We utilized QuickBooks. Students get free access to quickbooks I was struggling with my account and I was not spending $300 just to do assignments when Ik I can do it for free. It took the school the whole semester to figure out why I didn't have access. Once I finally got access, there was a week left of the semester. My professor told me, "if you hand in all of the work, I will not mark it late". I finished a whole semester worth of work in one week just for him to grade them as late and for me to receive another -C. Like I mentioned before, I took an internship. It was called YearUp. It helped me grow a lot and I'll forever be grateful and proud that I put myself through a year of hard work. One thing that really got on my nerves was when we were going over racism this one day. One of the coaches who was presenting decided to call white people, pigs. As soon as I heard that, my stomach dropped. I wanted to say something and tell them how I felt about what they just said but I knew if I said anything, I would've gotten thrown out of the program. They just kept going with it too. I've been having issues with this school for a long time, they asked me to go to tutor i went, tutor section said I never showed up which was a lie, the people that work in the school are uneducated, and they don't listen at all, the financial aid department i hate to say it, the front desk is full of none blk women they don't listen at all, I went to see my advisor ahe laughed in my face I walked out because I was finna cuss her out, I come to realize this school is not for us black folk at all so now I have to transfer with a F because this stupid school is not professional at all read more

I haven't attended this school yet, but I will say....The website has glitches, NO ONE at IT answers the phone or gets back to you....I've sent emails back and forth to advisors who are not helpful in that they don't tell you things in DETAIL. I'm so not impressed and feel stupid already just trying to get through the app process. I attended the open house and now feel like this is a total waste of my time. I love my school! Professor are great and if your a culinary student like me... Well you are in serious LUCK! The school is changing as they are recovering more and more funding as they continue to grow. This is a super busy area and the buildings are separated. (Which is fine but some may have an issue with it) The only thing that has ever really bothered me has been with the Registar office. I feel that some employees are annoyed with students and they speak to students in a certain time that just does NOT SIT well w me. Especially w the fact to keep in mind that some of us pay out of pocket and not through financial aid. The supervisor there is just TERRIBLE! She has the most disgusting mouth I have ever heard and she treats the people she managers really wrong. I am not sure why this lady continues to be employed here. Besides that.... Consider HCCC. Terrible staff. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt because of covid but I just can't anymore. None of the staff knows what they are doing and are rude. They pass issues down from one person to another and don't even get me started on the book store manager. so unhelpful to students. They bleed you of money and that's pretty much it. Your advisors do not help with anything and everyone is unreachable. They are clearing doing nothing while working from home. This college is not worth the headache. read more

This is a community college do not spec high end top of the line anything. The buildings are all around journal Square and some are in west new york you choose well those classes! I spent 3 years in this college. Many of the staff speak Spanish, u will find many middle eastern in counters too so communication problems won't be a problem. Teachers: some have masters some will try sell you herbalife shakes in class lol for real! learning is your responsibility always. Price: if u go full time and get full Financial aid u might get some hundred dollars in check. this college is cheap. Library: there is a library in front college were they sell the books you will need.Note at 2, 3 times the price. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING THERE. don't be lazy and find them somewhere really the prices are ridiculous. The real library to study and read is ok not too big but have copiers printers and computers. Social: not much because the big range of different cultures that are in a class you wont find that many people to speak to. ghetto kids, arab girls, Filipinos etc I really try I am very social I was always talking to someone in class but people are not into anything. really couldn't make more than 1 friend in 3 years of class. WARNING MUST READ ESL: if u enter taking ESL levels is extremely hard to finish. I know people waste the whole financial aid in ESL. the famous Exit test some how you will fail it 2 or 3 times minimum. and they send everyone to ESL lol. If you can take basic literature or English class somewhere else and avoid the ESL u just saved 2 years of college in HCCC. ESL is the killer in this college believe me do not think u will pass in your first try. If you want to transfer you credits you can not have a balance in HCCC and they don't accept payment plans!!!! so If you owe 2000 you have to pay in sum lump :) please read my review this are really helpful stuff based on real experiences! read more

Hudson County Community College is a great school. I took a class there in the summer of 2008 because I wanted to transfer credits to the university that I was attending at the time. The students and professors are very friendly and funny. You can also talk to the security guards if you want to. The professors seem better here than the ones I had at the university I went to. They really work out of their way to make sure students understand the material and care about you learning and being able to apply the concepts. The buildings are spread out, but are within walking distance. Around the college are several stores and restaurants. The college has just opened a new Welcome Center in 2011. It is equipped with a computer lab, so that students can work on assignments and print what they need. There are 2 campuses: one in Journal Square in Jersey City, and the North Hudson Center in Union City. Just be alert when you're in the Journal Square campus because the college is not in a great area. Also, the registrar and academic advising can make things confusing, but if you encounter such confusion, don't worry too much. They'll be able to straighten things out, as I had to go back and forth between departments once. I haven't been to the North Hudson Center, so I can't really comment on that. You can make friends easily here, as long as you're willing to start a conversation. Right now, I'm a returning student, and after a few weeks, I've been talking to people in my class. There's a lot of diversity here, so you'll be able to talk to people from all walks of life. Students and professors are chill and laid-back. One time, I've had a security guard tell me, "Remember: no one can stop you, but you." lol. I would highly recommend Hudson County Community College, especially for students who are interested in Culinary Arts. I'm not a culinary student, but the school has a very good culinary arts program. There's a variety of programs here, and is a good start for those who plan on transferring to a four-year college or university. Even if you just want to continue your education as in my case, it's a wonderful institution. Hudson County Community College truly is "A world of possibilities." read more

As a first year adult student with a full time job, HCCC works for me. I have completed my first semester and am starting my 2nd. The professors so far have been very helpful and so has the administrative staff. My favorite part of the school is the new library. It is very accessible and has several spaces available to sit and do what you have to do along with a small cafe. I will not give it 5 stars only because of a small snafu (spell check) I had with financial aid recently that was resolved quickly. read more

I came to this school last summer as a pre-nursing student. Getting in was easy, the staff were friendly as well. The area was never my favorite but that's no ones fault. I only went for the summer and I know that schools in JC get a bad rep but this one was ok. Staff that work there didn't teach less because they were teaching at a community college in JC - most times they work harder because they are trying to make a difference in a community that could use it. read more
