It isn't pleasant to have to write this reiew. HVTC is a very clean, professional operation. The artists were great, and I never had any bad experiences with anyone, until the one that triggered this review. I booked with Jaosn Carpino, and made a $500 deposit. I want to clearly state: I did not pay close attention to their cancellation policy, probably because Ive been tattooed so many times that I assumed (incorrectly) that all shos were the same. So, when I missed the appointment and I was told that they would keep the entire $500 (I thought incorrecly that it was $150 per session missed) that it was criminal. I said so to Nicole at the desk. She then clearly explained the policy again, and I listedned, as upset as I was, and understood. I was in the wrong, and they were not. She then told me that I would have to email Jason to see if "he wante to continue" which I thought was odd. I receivedd a very curt email back from Jason saying that due to my behavior with the shop, my grumbling about Square (I had complained on the first day that my phone pinged a dozen times early in the monring and that I wasn't a fan of Square) and because of my overall negative interatction, that he wasn't interested in continuing to work on me. (This is about a $10,000-$15,000 job by the way). The only real "conflict" i had was with the young guy that answerd the phone and who called me looking to move me to an earlier appointment. WHen he called, I was shuffling out of JFK airport, and he had a big agenda, and wasn't really listening to me. I told im it was a bad time, that I couldn't answer right then because I was in transit from internatinoal travel. He went on with the dates and times. I told him again that I don't have the ansers, and when he still kept pushing I said somthing like "Look, I don't have the time or wherewithal to answer you right now!" This led apparently, to deeply hurt feelings. It triggered an email from Jason about an "unpleasant" conversation with the kid, and I emailed back that nothing of the sort happened, I wasn't rude, I just couldn't give him the answers to his agenda. As it turned out I could not accept the appointments being offered, so we didn't go with them and that was that. I never at any time was rude to anyone. Direct perhaps, but I think that comes off as rude. I tipped Jason in cash, which doesn't seem to factor into his evaliuation of me as a customer (read, he didn't give a shit) and apparently eveyrone at the practice was so butt hurt by their interations with me and got so triggered that they decided to terminate all future appointments and move on. Fair enough. I don't work for people I don't like either. But to paint a picture that I was rude is just incorrect and unfair. The whole problemm stemmed from the kid that initially called me to reschedule or move up my appointments. Even from day one, he was kind of a douche and wouldn't even make eye contact, didn't respond to my introduction or any pleasantries/small talk. Pretty disappointing because everyone seemed pretty cool, but I think there's a bit of "Mean Girls" pomposity that comes off immediatley. Like, I've worked with some of the world's most prominent and well-respected artist. I've missed an appointment with one of them too! There were no tears and retaliation though. A few years ago I was recommended to this shop-and to Mike "Shish" specifically, by a co worker who had some gorgeous pieces, and I'm so glad I listened. Today I got my 4th tattoo from this spot. 3 were by shish and one by Adam. All of them equally as beautiful. I have watched them work and they are all friendly, professional, super clean and SO talented! Not to mention entertaining! Seriously, the caliber of artists here is top top notch. It was my first tattoo and it is a very minimalist outline of a heart. This place is super professional, clean and their work is impeccable. The first time I went in to pay my deposit I felt like a total dork because everyone has sleeves and looked really fraggin' cool. However, they were super friendly and nonjudgemental. My artist was Adam and I made a feeble joke about how he was like an AK-47 when all I needed was like a sling shot. He was obviously very experienced and was extremely patient with me and even though he was tatted all over the place, he took the time to make sure: 1. I was truly relaxed 2. I loved the drawing he did of the heart 3. That he did a thorough job even if it was a very simple design. So yea, thank you Hudson Valley Tattoo and Adam, what a great experience. This tattoo shop is nothing short of amazing and completely professional. I had been thinking about getting a lot of different tattoos for a while and decided that getting a small one to start off would be the best idea. So I started looking around to find the best tattoo shops because anything going on my body forever has to be perfect. I looked into the infamous Bang Bang shop and honestly I felt that $300 an hour was a little ridiculous for something that would take five minutes, ten at most. So I decided that maybe it wasn't my time because every shop by me looks mediocre and the good ones are pretty pricey. A couple months later my boyfriend stumbles upon this tattoo shop and we see how amazing their work is. I felt like this was a hidden gem and I would definitely have to go here one day. So after eating at Cracker Barrel one day I asked my boyfriend if he wanted to be spontaneous and get a tattoo since the shop is only ten minutes away. He said yeah and we were on our way. We walked in and were greeted by a nice girl (Nicole I think) she told us that normally they are good with walk ins but today they were short on staff and to come back later if we wanted. I wasn't angry because it's a completely normal situation so I explained that we don't live close and we can just come back another time. She told us that Marcel would be able to take us on Thursday April 7th. Perfect! Asked us what we wanted, gave us a rough estimate on price and took a deposit. So far so good. The day before our appointment we get a call saying that something came up with Marcel and if we wanted, Diego can take us at 10:00am instead of 12pm. We said sure and that actually worked better with our schedule. We looked up Diego's work and knew that we were in good hands. We came in at 10:00am and Diego and another guy was there, I didn't happen to get his name I'm assuming he was an apprentice. He was super nice and helped pass the time by while I waited for my boyfriend to get tattooed. Diego knew exactly what my boyfriend wanted and had a sketch drawn really quick. It looked better than what we imagined. He sketched up a great domino. I got to watch the whole process and Diego did an awesome job. He made it look so effortless. I felt confident to get my tattoo. My boyfriend got the tattoo on his ankle and he said it hurt like 6/10 but not because of Diego, the placement is just a tough spot. The big reveal and I was so happy with how his tattoo came out and so was he. I was up next Diego asked what font I wanted and I had to make sure the spelling was correct. He basically made my own font for me, a combination of a picture I showed him, a computer generated font and his own twist. It was the best font ever in my opinion, it was exactly what I wanted. So we got to work. It took no more than 5 minutes he made sure to be fast because he saw I was taking it a little harder compared to my boyfriend. He kept asking if I was okay and gave me advice to get up slow so there were no accidents. He made me feel so comfortable and my first tattoo was a success. My tattoo hurt more towards the last few letters, the ribs is a rough place. I checked the final product and was ecstatic. They told us the healing process and we were on our way. Upon getting home I was even happier with my results and so was my boyfriend. We also discovered after we went home that Diego is the owner and I felt pretty special after finding that out. All and all I spent $80 on mine and the domino was $120. Completely worth it and I will be going back for all my future endeavors. read more

Can't say enough good things about this experience. I've been tattooed by Shish (co-owner) a couple of times but felt it wasn't appropriate to review this shop until I was tattooed there myself. While visiting home I was finally able to squeak onto a schedule and it was everything I expected it to be. The shop is clean and gorgeous, when you're there you're constantly admiring they set up they have created. Everyone is so friendly, other artists are always poking their heads in and admiring each other's work. It seems like one big family you wish you could be a part of, if only you were half as talented! Shish is a magician at what he does and can put out a beautiful tattoo in a time crunch, even with taking small boogie breaks when a banger comes on. But honestly it seems everyone at this shop slam dunks tattoos and you'd be lucky to get your hands on one. 10 outta 10 THE place to be. read more

Worst customer service ever. I emailed a photo of my tattoo idea as per their request. They said they'd love to do my tattoo and to set up a consultation appointment, which I did. I ne er even got through the doorway. Mike "Shish" came downstairs, led me outside and told me that it was a bad idea for a tattoo, that I should frame it and hang it on a wall, instead and that I should go home and brainstorm. He was not even the one that would be doing the tattoo. I had sketches of ideas to tie it together, but never got to show anybody. No suggestions, ideas, words of encouragement...just No, get out. read more

Everyone here is extremely nice and made my first tattoo a wonderful expierence! I didn't have an appointment so they put me in as soon as the next one was available, which happened to be the next night. Julian did a fabulous job on the three tiny birds behind my ear. He made me feel so calm and relaxed the entire time. My tattoo came out so detailed and beautiful. I have received nothing but complements! I got my tattoo done by taka He was really nice and down-to-earth it was about a month wait due to my availability But it was so worth it he did a mandala design which starts at the top of my shoulder blade to mid arm when I got there he already had a drawn up he let me decide what size I preferred he had you a check over again and make sure it's everything I wanted everyone was shocked that it took only about 2 1/2 hours to get done you can tell that they work individually in the shop but also work as a team and look out for each other. Other tattoo artist came by complimented on his work and talk to me as well they were very friendly the price was really good even when I asked for an estimate he made sure that I didn't go over my budget that I had in mind. My mother-in-law ended up making an appointment as well. read more

I went in today(sunday) and was promptly helped by the awesome manager. She took a look at what I wanted to get done and hooked me up with an artist that was available, Geddes. He was great! We Took a look at the reference photos I brought in and talked about how I wanted some elements of each incorporated in the design. He sketched the perfect (and original) image for me, an intricate little locket that I wanted. Then we got started: he was gentle both with the needle and the wipeing, which I really appreciate, that wipe can really get you man. let me tell you I love the result!! It's beautifully shaded, and all the lines are super solid. I've gotten tattoos before where at first glance everything is fine but then you really look at it and it's not symmetrical or somethin, but this is really perfect! My image has a bunch of little circles right next to each other and they all look perfectly round and symmetrical. The concentric circles are evenly spaced so that there is the same thickness going all the way around. I'm super impressed by the quality of the service. You can really tell Geddes is super experienced and a professional. Upon finishing we came up with a price we were both comfortable with and he made sure to tell me that if it needed to be touched up after the healing process to let him know. Everyone was super lovely at this shop and I would really recommend you check them out! I'll leave some tips of some of the things that I noticed in case you are hoping to get something done here: - call in advance if you are a walk in to see if there are still spots available for walk-ins. While I was there (abt 3 hours on Sunday) there must have been 5 people who came in as walk ins and had to schedule appointments since the artists were busy for the rest of the day. Granted they only have a 5 hour workday on Sunday, so spots fill up quickly, but I would still call just to make sure. - from what I could tell, there is one large room where everyone gets tattooed in, not separate rooms. I did see, however, that there was a room divider up when I first walked in so that you could not seenthe person getting tattooed behind it, but I could still hear everything going on. It didn't bother me at all, but I could see it being an issue for people who need more privacy. read more

I received two tattoos from two different artist at HVTC within the last six months and I honestly couldn't be happier with the whole process from start to finish. First, setting up the appointment was a pleasure, the receptionist was so friendly and welcoming. Both artist, Julian and Jason were super nice and made me feel comfortable before the tattoo at the consult and most importantly, during the tattoo. The amount of talent that these two have, along with the other artists at HVTC is unmatched. These guys are great! You can definitely tell everyone loves what they do here. I went in to get a cover up/build off an idea. They matched me with the artist who could do what I needed. They also gave me realistic expectations and worked with me to make what I wanted a reality. Tyler was super sweet and always checked in on how I was doing. After making an appointment with TJ I only had to wait about a week for my appointment with Taka. What was nice was that once I mentioned I wanted lettering, TJ already had me scheduled with Taka, which is cool because they're all aware of who is best for each tattoo. The day of my tattoo we were in the middle of a snow storm and I had actually received a text from Taka making sure I was still coming, but after that I had asked if I could come in earlier and was able to come in a lot earlier for my tattoo which was really nice and accommodating. When you walk in the shop you are greeted with incense and calm music which was a lovely and calming touch. Once I got there my tattoo was already sketched up and I was asked about sizing and all of that. Once the stencil was on, Taka was unsure if it looked perfect so he got second options until finalizing the placement. This patience and care for the perfect tattoo really made a difference in the experience. Once we started, Taka said he would do one line for me to feel the pain and if I ever wanted to stop to let him know. After having a not so good pain experience on my first tattoo with a very rude artist at a different shop, this all really made a difference. The tattoo was over really quickly and came out amazing. I was assured that if anything was wrong just to call and come in whenever- another great touch. I loved receiving the cute little care package after and really felt cared about at the shop! I will be back as soon as I can! Price wise the shop is a good amount maybe a tad on the higher side but without a doubt worth it! read more

Any time I have gone anywhere else to get tattooed I have had to come back to this place and have it fixed. Except once. Do not stray from a good thing. I've followed Shish since I was 18, when he was in Newburgh. I needed a large cover up and it was an entirely black tattoo. Shish who has done my feet, legs, arms, back etc, recommend I see Tyler for this cover up. I couldn't thank Shish enough for the recommendation. This place is the BEST for tattoos. If you're going to go to Walden or something you're stupid and you're just going to end up having Shish, Diego or Tyler fix it. We were tattooed by Rick who treated us with respect and took his time to draw up something even better than what we originally asked for.
