It's a prime location within the GTA so it's relatively easy to get to and good for people who want to pray and meditate. They also have a large dining hall in the lower level. You purchase a lunch box meal ticket first ($15/box) and then head into the hall to receive your meal. We came around 12:30pm for lunch but most of the food was already served but still enough to enjoy a vegetarian meal. Our meal included white rice and three vegetables, though it tasted large and portion was reasonable, it didn't fully match the photo of what I thought I was getting. Regardless the meal was filling and well seasoned and you can get a soup as well. Theres a few long tables and you can pull out the plastic stools from under the tables to sit. Dropping one star only because I saw a large earwig like insect moving inside the table throughout the meal which made me a hesitate for a bit.

You may want to hit the big bell 3 times. You may want to write your wish or greeting to your family and put it in a specific area. It is the temple which owns 'Wu Tai Shan' in Peterborough and have more statue to see. There are monks that pray in the morning and afternoon. There are indoor parking too.

I usually don't go…read moreto temples regularly, but go annually as part of the Chinese new year's tradition at midnight for the blessing and welcoming of the lunar new year (almost like attending midnight Christmas mass). Normally everyone would have to remove their footwear before entering the temple, but because of the Chinese new year and numerous people coming and going they forego the rule. The temple itself is conveniently located on Bathurst just south of Dundas St. West and upon entering you're welcomed with incense for praying and blessing to the Buddhas. The venue is a decent size and decorated very tastefully and not too extravagant. There was definitely a feeling of zen upon entering and the energy is a positive feeling. They offer vegetarian lunches on new year's day in the basement and have an array of events going on throughout the year which I haven't participated in since I only attend the temple for new year's. Don't feel intimidated to visit the temple if you're not Asian as the temple welcomes everyone and there's always someone on hand to explain the customs and ceremonies.

I've been living in Toronto for almost 7 years and I've walked past the Temple few times. It was always closed when I walked past until today! First of all, let me tell you that I've been a Buddhist since I was born because my parents are Buddhists. However, everyone can choose their own religion and my parents are okay with that. I chose to be in Buddhism even though I grew up going to a Catholic school until junior high school. After moving to Toronto, it's been hard for me to go to a Thai Buddhist temple. There is one in Richmond Hill. It's called " Wat Yanviriya Temple". In other words, I'm too lazy to travel far from downtown. I'm not a strict Buddhist but I believe in KARMA. I love to be in a temple. It always blesses me and makes me warm. If you're interested in a Buddhist temple even if you're a Buddhist or not, Fu Sien Tong temple is one of temple I would love to recommend. It's small but quiet and peaceful. The Chinese woman monk who was there at the time I visited, spoke English and was very helpful.

They met at the Rochester Zen Centre headed by Philip Kapleau Rosh (Three Pillars of Zen)i. Their practice deals mostly in the Theravadan practices of lovingkindness and vipassana. I've been to Tuesday sit and both residential and non-residential retreats. I've had good experiences, and especially good when I accepted their teachings. It is a small temple where they serve a vegetarian luncheon cafeteria-styled from 12-8pm... but only on the 1st and 15th day of every month in the lunar Chinese calender! On regular days, I think they are open for prayers, mediations and spiritual classes. Since today is CNY, our family once again visited this temple for the vegetarian luncheon. Minimum is $12 for the meal... but you are welcome to donate more as you wish. Those who work in the kitchen are majority senior volunteers. They are very involved in serving the Buddhist community in Scarborough/Markham area and providing a warm and delicious meal for us on these special occasions! The meal includes veggie soup, white rice, tofu mix, veggie mix, bean curd skin, egg crisps with sweet and sour sauce, water and tea. It has been the same food with the same consistency and taste over the past 10-15 years lol... they seriously perfected it lol. A variety of snacks are also available on the side table right when you enter upstairs: chips, candies, chocolates, biscuits, cookies, peanuts, etc. Things you must note while dining there: Only eat as much as you can eat... you can go back for seconds and thirds. But do not waste any food. You cannot pack food home if you are unable to finish. It's a nice cleanse for me from time to time. We hardly eat enough veggies anyway! And the food is healthy and not bland at all. You can certainly give it a try!
