As we were driving down to Destin, we became hangry. I saw a billboard that said something about back in time in Abbeville visit or something along those lines. I decided to drive to Abbeville and it was an amazing town. As we were walking around, I asked around about a good place to eat and we were referred to this restaurant. By the time we arrived, they were closed. I saw the Chef unloading the truck and I asked if they could please open for us so we can eat as we were very hungry and they closed 5 minutes ago. He agreed and we were let in. We had chili, turkey club, hand cut fries, turkey wrap, chicken fingers and shakes. The entire food was amazing and very well done. The presentation was good and the restaurant was amazingly design that I felt that I was going to see McFly and Buff at any moment. If you are driving around Abbeville, make stop and visit this town and the restaurant for sure. You will not be disappointed that you did. The server and the chef were great, great customer service and great food. Can't ask for more! read more

The atmosphere is great, the service was terrific, and to top it off, the food was fantastic. Those fries-clearly cut from real potatoes right in the kitchen. They're second to none. We went to Abbeville to see all of the vintage items and ended up eating here. The food was delicious! The home fries were fresh and worth the trip by themselves! I don't usually leave a review but I just needed to. It's been a while since we've visited. It was good in the past. Tonight was not. Food was less than average. Waitress was very nice but we found a long dark hair one the plate under a sandwich. Nasty. The manager didn't want to take it off the bill until we had to spell it out. Business was slow on a holiday weekend. This place has gone down hill since the last time we were in town visiting family. We love the little town but we won't be back here. Disappointing. read more

A nicely restored throwback pharmacy/soda shop/restaurant with lots of memorabilia on the walls. It trades on the Abbeville town legend of "Molly," the "hugging" apparition. Good burger, French dip, club sandwich, etc. Still haven't tried any of the ice creams, floats or shakes. Depending on your route, it's only about a 5-minute detour off the route from the panhandle (Destin) to Atlanta. The owner is also owner of the Abbeville-based wood preserving company branded as "YellaWood." He's from Abbeville & looks to be working to restore the downtown strip. Passing through Abbeyville, Alabama and stopped at this incredible restaurant. Great atmosphere as you enter an old time sarsaparilla and milkshake bar. It is decorated with lots of old posters and movie props. We were greeted by Debbie who was just lovely, certainly a busy bee. She does it all. We were seated and Elizabeth took care of our orders that were cooked to order and served with a smile. Such a nice atmosphere as we were able to meet and talk to folks from the area as we enjoyed our meal. Five stars may be a bit generous, but I was so impressed with everything about this small town throwback to the 1950's. When entering the main entrance, it felt a bit like I was walking into a museum, or maybe a Disney restaurant. Even the street in front of the restaurant and private parking lot, looks like a 50's movie set. Spotlessly clean, inside and out. Antiques and collectibles everywhere you look. The hostess took us past the soda fountain and into the main dining room, which had a homey feel with dark wood and more nostalgic pieces of history and Hollywood movie memorabilia. The server suggested we start with the mozzarella sticks, which were simply amazing. Certainly the best I've ever had. An order is four sticks served with ranch and marinara. The three of us scarfed them down in no time. We then moved on to our lunch entrees. I had the chicken tenders with comeback sauce and fries on the side. Words can't describe how incredibly good these chicken tenders are. The chicken, the breading, the seasoning and that comeback sauce. All I can say is "Wow". Best chicken tenders I've ever eaten, without a doubt. Very generous serving size, too. The fries were amazing, as well. One of my dining partners had the shrimp poboy, which looked fantastic, too. The shrimp was breaded with the same perfection that surrounded my chicken. My other buddy had the tacos (Tuesday special), which looked good, but nothing compared to the tenders on my plate. Can't wait to go back for dinner and/or a milkshake. I highly recommend taking a detour through this charming small town and stopping for a meal at Huggin' Molly's. I would usually rate this restaurant 4 to 5 stars, based on previous visits, but they're not open as many nights as they used to be, and they have not kept their online info up to date in some of the common search and review sites. So, they were closed on a Thursday night when I drove my out-of-town guests 50 miles to eat there. TripAdvisor shows the restaurant open from 5 pm to 8 pm on Thursday. When I searched the restaurant on Google, the first thing that came up was the Trip Advisor listing showing them open on Thursday night, and although the restaurant web site shows them closed on Thursday night, they should maintain their online listings on the common search sites. But we had a great meal across the street at Money's for less money, so know where we will and won't be eating next time we come to Abbeville. read more

Very cute, quaint soda fountain restaurant in downtown Abbeville. On the way home from the beach, it's only a three mile detour off Hwy 431. We arrived at 11 when they opened and were second in the door, but within minutes the place was filling up. The menu is large and varied. Wanting something light I went for the chicken salad plate, which came with a scoop of chunky chicken salad made with cranberries, their Georgia cracker salad, (which is like egg salad with tomatoes and crumbled crackers), and a side of fresh fruit. My husband enjoyed his hot dog with onions and relish and a side of fries. Portions were normal sized, and everything was fresh. Service was fast and friendly. This restaurant takes covid precautions seriously. I felt very comfortable eating here. All staff was masked, tables separated for distancing. The restaurant is spotless. It was much better than I expected in the middle of Alabama. We were driving through towards Dothan and after a quick review of Dothan's food and dining options we decided to make a quick stop to try and support this local business. If you're not from around here - beware - the restaurants in this area close very early compared to major cities. On the Thursday night we were there the restaurant closing time was 8pm (!) and when we walked in at 7:15pm we were given the side-eye from employees hoping to leave a few minutes early....floors were already mopped, all sidework completed, etc. Just make sure to check the hours before you make the trip. The dining area is split into a soda-fountain-esque bar area and a larger dining room on the other side of it. It's a clean, casual place decked out in wood floors and wood tables. I loved all the 50s-inspired decor. For food: we started with the mozzarella sticks which is exactly the same thing you've had at 143 other restaurants. Nothing special but also no surprises. For dinner, I had the burger steak, which was essentially a burger patty topped with some onions & gravy. It came with a side of mashed potatoes and cheddar biscuits. Everything on my plate screamed average: mashed potatoes served lukewarm, cheddar biscuits taste was OK but they were small and dry, and my burger was just fine. The thing is though, when traveling outside of major cities my expectations are much, much lower and so in a way they were exceeded by this meal. We also had a beer to drink with our meal, and apparently this is news the local folks we know in Dothan! They do serve beer & wine now. And not just any beer, they had some bottles of a local Alabama brew for only $3.50 a piece! We were very happy with that! Huggin' Molly's comes in at 3.5 stars since they exceeded my expectations, but the food just didn't garner the 4th star. But, I would recommend it if you are in the area as a nice place to go that does feel more of an official establishment and less hole-in-the-wall (not that there is anything wrong with that!). read more

The chicken fingers were so fresh, tasty and the breading was nice and light. Combine them with the dipping sauce and you have a great meal memory Every detail inside this place is well done and adds to the hometown, nostalgia feel. We finally caught this quaint little place open we ordered hamburgers with fries and onion rings the onion rings were on point, it was all well prepared, the bathroom was clean but it is a one seater. pictures really don't do it justice:) The owner also owns the Yellowwood lumber company in Alabama and it's said that he's the richest man in Alabama as for the occasionable poor review No one is perfect and some of us are just spoiled rotten brats. We stopped here on our way home from the beach. Quaint downtown restaurant with a drugstore theme. Interesting story about how the owner wanted to help revitalize downtown Abbeville. He purchased drugstore items from California to furnish and decorate the restaurant. Original marble top booths, light fixtures, etc. Very cool! Note that on Yelp it states hours are 11a-9p, HOWEVER, they close at 2p for lunch and open back up at 5p for dinner. We arrived at 1:45p and the staff accommodated my family of 4. Two other families had just arrived as well. The food was very good. We had the cheese biscuits, Bird Dog, the Huggin' Burger, Classic Burger and the burger covered with onions and gravy (no bun). The onion rings were yummy!! The service was a bit slow, but we were told that they'd had one of their busiest lunch windows in quite some time and the kitchen was backed up. I enjoyed walking around and looking at all the decor and reading the background story of Huggin' Molly while we waited. read more

The best hamburger I have ever had. I ordered the onion rings which I did not like, too much batter and the onions were so large they didn't cook that well. I will order fries with it next time. There was only one waitress serving when we were there, I don't quite remember her name, but make sure to give her a big tip! The fries here were also amazing! Oh! What a cool place. If you drive to or from PCB from the Atlanta area you know there isn't much to choose from meal wise in Alabama except the standard fast food crap. We had the sampler for an appetizer. The onion rings are excellent. Probably some of the best I have ever had. Fried green tomatoes and pickle chips are also great. My wife liked the cheddar biscuits, they were ok but i'm not a fan of cinnamon butter that goes on them. The southern burger was excellent. I ate it with no condiments because it was that good. Bacon perfectly crunchy, pimento cheese was awesome and the hamburger was perfect. Wife had the hamburger steak and it was flipping awesome. The gravy is ridiculously good. Abbeville is a small town and we didn't see many places to eat. Well after heading downtown we saw Huggin Molly's and it looked inviting. As soon as you walk in it looks like a throwback 50's diner. They have memorabilia from yesteryear and everyone is smiling and super friendly. They have a long bar where they serve fountain drinks and desert which looked cool and retro. Upon taking us in the back to where more tables were the places looks like some elegant restaurant. Cloth napkins are set at every table and old frame posters and wall art from years ago. Huggin Molly was also featured in Southern Living magazine. Since it was around 3PM and we were gonna eat later, we got appetizers and some sandwiches. I ordered the fried green tomato sandwich and is soooo good! The come back Molly sauce was very tasty and the tomatoes were done just right. They came with homemade chips that were crispy and light. The sweet potato fries with honey butter were perfect. Later that night I had the country fried steak and it was tasty but a little salty for my tasty. The sweet potato was huge and skin just came off the sweet potato like nothing. If I ever stop back in Abbeville this is where I'll come to eat. read more

The interior is an old drug store, done up real nice. The service is very sweet, and the location is on a pretty picturesque little Main Street. Huggin' Molly's has billboards you might be encouraged to disregard as you make your way down the road, but rest assured there a) is nothing better around and b) is no reason to increase my rating because of this. This place would hold its own even if it were somewhere busy and I look forward to segmenting more time to sample on my next passing through. The Space Huggin' Molly's is a soda fountain style place located in a quaint downtown area of Abbeville. You will either park street side or along the narrow strip of parking down the building's side. Walking in is quite a treat, with various antique items to really give it an old school, soda fountain feel. There is the fountain area with stools or the main dining area in the next room, both of which appeared spotless. The Service Though I only got a dessert item (I was in a rush to get there but I wanted to sample what a soda fountain was all about: the fountain), they were quick to greet me and I was promptly taken care of despite others being there to have lunch. The Food I ordered what is referred to as the Half Brother. It is, in essence, a chocolate brownie sundae with hot fudge, whipped cream, chopped nuts, and a cherry on top. It is the "half" brother because it is a half-serving, and considering how big mine was, I am thankful I did not let my sweet tooth talk me into the bigger portion. To accurately summarize will not require much detail: the brownie was definitely made from-scratch and was the best part by a mile, considering the ice cream is commercial and the toppings were as well. I happen to be ok with the commercial ice cream they use so I was content, though it would have been a very special experience were this ice cream homemade. Final Thoughts The hours make this place a hassle for those traveling, simply because 3 days of the week they are open for only 3 hours. That said, the menu looks impressive even if you ignore the fact that this is your best bet for miles. I absolutely suggest you save your appetite for Huggin' Molly's before caving into the temptation of a fast food franchise. read more
