If you are looking for a shack for BBQ, you found it at Fred's. This is the definition of a hole in the wall. A shack beside a railroad track on the edge of downtown with a few outside patio furniture for seating. The menu has BBQ, chicken fingers, hamburgers, and hot dogs. I made a quick trip over from the school to grab a BBQ plate. The BBQ was chipped and had some kind of sweet sauce mixed in. The plate came with 2 sides and I chose potato salad and slaw. The potato salad was mustard base and chilled and heavy on the potato. The slaw was your everyday variety. My sweet tea was refreshingly sweet and my meal was $10. Overall, it surpassed my expectations. It would not be anywhere close to the best BBQ I've ever had but it was a whole lot better than a leftover lunch. If you are in Headland and looking for a quick lunch, check Fred's out.

I am proud to bestow my 800th Yelp review on this new BBQ joint in my hometown of Ashford, AL. This…read moreis what we were needing in Ashford. The BBQ at ResQue is phenomenal! I had to try it all! I went with the CPR plate that is their 3 meat plate with pulled pork, ribs, and chicken. They were out of chicken so it worked that I wanted brisket instead. Out of the 3, the pulled pork was the best. It was unbelievably soft and tender with a succulent smoky taste. There is some kind of special seasoning they use on their meats and it really shined through on the pork and brisket. In fact, the seasoning really made the brisket. The ribs were ok. I feel like I didn't get their best effort at the ribs as they ribs were tougher than I like. But I had a friend tell me that his fell off the bone. For my sides, I went with smoky mac and cheese, tater salad, and fried okra. All were fantastic! The tater salad was the more unique of the 3 as it was tangy and spicy. It was also made with the special seasoning they use. There are several sauces as I had the original, tangy, sweet, and slop. There is a spicy sauce but I could not try it because the owner makes it. He was not there on the day I dined in. The slop sauce is a sweet vinegar sauce that goes well with pulled pork. I loved all the sauces. The tangy was definitely a ketchup base with probably some mustard mixed in. It reminded me a lot of Sonny's original or Larry's mild. I felt like the original was very close to the tangy but had a more mild taste. The sweet seems to be made with honey or molasses. Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet! I only get to visit Ashford about 3 or 4 times a year now but I will be back to ResQue every single time!

Dothan always needs a good BBQ place. And I want to give props to whoever decided that my side of…read moreDothan, the east side needed more choices. They are a genius...the West side and northwest side already has plenty. Dickey's is the largest BBQ chain in the nation. It is inspired by Texas style BBQ as its origin is from Dallas. I have ate at a few Dickey's over the years, but not the Dothan location. Dickey's claims all meats are cooked on site. I went with the brisket platter, potato salad, and barbeque beans. If you want to know how good a BBQ joint is, try the brisket. It seems to be the most difficult meat to get right. Dickey's did my brisket right. The brisket was moist, smoky, tender, and mixed well with the sauces. There are 3 sauces, all tomato based, and all are served warm. My favorite is the spicy. It just has the most flavor to it. The heat on it is subtle but after a few bites, you will notice the heat. It is not the most spicy BBQ sauce I have ever had...maybe a 5 on my heat scale. The original has a Smokey, mild taste to it. The sweet to me is not all that good because it seems to be watered down with some sugar thrown in. The potato salad is a creamy, mustard base with some pimento or chopped red bell pepper mixed in. I really like it. The beans had a Sweet taste to them. They were ok. You receive a Roll with your plate and my sweet tea was freshly brewed and sweet. There is a loyalty club you can enroll in and Dickey's will send you a coupon for a free one meat plate the next day if you buy a drink from their distinctive yellow cups. The coupon expires the next day so you might want to enroll the day before you plan on making a visit to Dickey's. I want to thank the young lady that made my order as I showed her my coupon. The coupon says one free meat plate. One of the gentlemen, maybe a manager, tried to tell her it was just for pork, which I didn't think was right because if that was true, the coupon should specify. I was ready to argue for some brisket. I might be mistaken, but I believe all meat plates are the same price. The young lady still made my brisket plate and followed the coupon, which I greatly appreciated. Another lady came by and checked on me to see if there was anything I needed. Besides the incident with the man trying to give me a pork plate instead of a brisket plate, I enjoyed my visit to Dickey's and will be back.
