Everything was Great! We went on a Thursday at lunch and walked in were seated immediately. The place was busy but we had excellent service. Our order was brought out very shortly and we enjoyed as much of it as we could consume. The fish, the oysters, the shrimp, the scallops, the hush puppies, the onion rings, the Cole slaw, the relish plate, our beverages were all fabulous! This fun little restaurant is just outside the gates of Fort Novosel and is quite obviously a local favorite. It appears dedicated to serving the local military population and civilian first responders. I really liked that about this place. It was clean and plenty of safe parking. The staff were extremely pleasant and accommodating. It feels family owned and operated but I'm have no idea if that's the actual case. The food is fantastic and gets served quite quickly. It's fresh and hot and the hush puppies are especially good. My only complaint is the entire menu is fried food and I had really hoped to find a broiled salmon or something like that at as "seafood" restaurant. Fried food really isn't my thing and a baked potato and a salad ending up being the bulk of what I ate. read more

I've been eating in the restaurant since it opened in the late 1960's and two things contra be true...the food is always great and the people are always so nice! Now let's be clear, McLin's is not a place to go for ambiance...it's an old block building in Daleville Alabama near one of the gates to Ft Rucker. Having said that, it's not a dive either. It's plain, simple, easy access....and they still have great steak and the best fried shrimp ever! The prices are reasonable, the service staff is friendly and the owners seem to know most of their customers by name....great place! read more

Used to go to Mclins before the scamdemic and it was good. Decided to go try it again for lunch. We were put in one of the rooms, real clean and quiet. The server was very nice and friendly. The food was mediocre at best, not like the Mclins of 2 years ago. The prices have gone way up, and the quality down. All the restaurants are adding a sur charge for using a credit card and Mclins added 4 % including the price increase. Price increase doesn't equal quality, but seems to be the new standard. It's very poorly lit. The steaks are phenomenal. But my husband and I both got sick after eating there and ended up at the doctors, the doctor said he believed it was because the salad was probably not washed properly. I will say we had eaten there many times before and never had an issue until this. read more

Came here tonight with the wife's family for dinner. I decided to get the one pound of crab claws. I didn't think much about it being one pound because I can easily polish off a pound of crab legs or twice that of crawfish. But half way through the meal I started to get full because I did not take account for the breading on the claws that adds to the amount of food you get. Well the next time I come here I will get just the half pound of crab claws because I could not finish the one pound of claws. read more

Excellent food. Wait time is slower than most restaurant because everyone and their mother in Daleville goes there. Expect on a busy day to wait 20 minutes or more to be seated. If you're hangry and impatient, do not go. This isn't a fast food restaurant. Prices are a bit high, so I can't afford to eat there regularly, but I've never had disappointment with the menu. Steak is always perfectly cooked. Good place to go when you want to treat yourself. Lots of parking space, but it get's packed, so you might need to wait for someone to be leaving to get a spot. The food is ok. Just ok. It's about the only dine in place that's survived in Daleville. The atmosphere could do with some renovations. The tables are so close together that you can't carry on a conversation without the other tables hearing you. It's also very loud which I do not like. Would I recommend? Delicious Med-Rare Ribeye. The fries (nice and crispy) were recommended over the baked potato and was on point. Salad was gone once it arrived to the table. Was fresh to include the crispy little tomatoes. The roll had a little sweetness but could have been from the butter which was great. Ordered a side of Hush Puppies for a starter as well. I go for the steak. It's fantastic. Sides are great, everything else is pretty good but mostly fried. Family owned and operated for the most part. The building is an old church which seems weird but it's nice and clean. Allows for private rooms for larger parties which is cool. Servers are local high school kids who are all very nice which I think adds to the experience. Feels like what a small town resturant is supposed to be in South Alabama. read more

Went to Mclins for the first time. Wait time was average, service was good, food was good. Nothing exceptional, but good. Menus need more options, like onion rings instead of fries. You have to pay full price for them as a side instead of just doing an upgrade. Alot of no exceptions on menu, Why? Ambience (as stated before in other reviews) is not much to brag about. It did remind me of a nursing home or hospital dining area. In closing, I may return if i'm in the area but i doubt i will make a special trip. read more

Sometimes you just crave a good piece of cow. That was our situation Thursday night when we decided to make Friday night date plans for a local cut of beef. I've been at Fort Rucker for over a year now, and have driven by McLin's a number of times- noting the always crowded parking lot and telling myself "one of these days"... I'm bummed I waited this long. Despite the number of people we saw sitting at the entrance, the wait was minimal. I was enjoying the wall decorations of helicopters and even their old menu ($5.95 for a 28 oz steak back in 1968!) when an elderly fellow walked up and said "do you know who I am?" I cordially admitted I did not and was about to get a history lesson about the restaurant from THE original Mr. McLin himself. A long retired Sergeant Major, he shed light on the odd layout of the building (and the noise level)- it used to be a church! I revealed to him this was my first time and he told me I was in good hands with his family heavily involved in the day to day operation of the business, and wished us an enjoyable dinner. On an already positive note, we were seated and greeted by fantastic waitstaff that made us feel welcome and already regulars. Tea pitchers were left at our table (we usually drink half and half) and we waited for our salads while watching the bustling activity and all the satisfied diners enjoying mouth watering meals with friends and family. The salad was pretty basic, but the ranch dressing was amazing! Our waitress thanked us for the compliments on the thick, delicious condiment that she told us she made herself. Oh, the little grape tomato was a happy little burst of flavor as well (enough that it was worth a comment at dinner). On to the main course- hearing good things about both the rib eye and the sirloin, we ordered one of each. I got the fries, the lady got an Idaho potato. I think she actually liked my fries more, they were very well seasoned. The cow... well this place being a former church, the steaks are nothing less than divine. As others have mentioned- there is steak sauce available, but you'd be doing yourself (and the restaurant) a horrible disservice. The only "sauce" you need are the juices left on the plate from your well rested cut of meat. The roll was a simple, but warm and moist- perfect for dipping in the aforementioned ranch dressing (I actually saw several servings of ranch coming out, probably on request, to other tables). We also got fried shrimp- also very good, and in a sweet tarter sauce that I thought tasted a bit like coleslaw, either way- well paired and very satisfying. I saw a basket of thick cut onion rings at nearly every table, they are certainly on the list of things to get on our next visit. I wanted the hush puppies, fried chicken, the key lime pie... next time, and it'll be soon. I'd definitely recommend this place for a family night out. It's pretty casual, and a bit loud, but a smile and open hearts, open minds will get you far at this long time established steak mecca. read more

Let me start by saying this place is a fire hazard. Regardless, this place has history. Just wow, this place is southern cooking at its finest. I mean you walk in the dining area, there are pitchers of sweet tea everywhere, I mean on every single table whether empty or occupied. Hush puppies, piping hot and so delicious. Thinking back on "the best ever" meals I've had at restaurants.....and no steak has ever compared to Mc Lins. In fact, it's the measuring rod we use to judge all steaks now. :-). We loved this place when we were TDY at Fort Rucker, around 5 years ago. The flavor of the steak was incredible - word of mouth was that they marinated it in bacon drippings . :-). The rolls were Sis Schuberts style ~ still remember them too. The atmosphere was humble mom & pop style and always friendly. I believe it was a family run business. I work at Cairns Field and we regularly order on Fridays. I love the $12 dollar box for two people and usually everything is great. I have to say, though, the last few weeks we are consistently getting very light amounts of French Fries, it's enough for one person, but basically they take a handful of fries and toss em in the box. One week they completely forgot the hush-puppies. So while they are excellent, and much better than Po Folks (Uggg don't get me started on THEIR sides) they seem to have some consistency issues. I really hope the 3 week run of low fries will come to an end soon. I'll have to rate this Meh, as there doesn't seem to be a good divider between a ranking of Meh and A-OK. I'd put them closer to Meh than A-OK. read more
