I have a rare condition called chronic regional pain syndrome and it shows up in many bizarre ways. Most recently, because my digestion doesn't go into "sleep mode", I've been waking up very nauseous and dry heaving. (I've also had a lot of stress and transition and it's been difficult to eat). Karl was an excellent nurse and the doctor saw me quickly and was able to get me a CAT scan on my abdomen to ensure that there wasn't a more serious issue going on in no time at all. The staff was friendly and efficient and the nurse who gave me my CAT scan was even named Kat! Making a painful situation more fun. I was taken to the Emergency Department by ambulance. They never addressed the reason that brought me there. They gave an incorrect diagnosis and inappropriate medication. Don't go there if you need competent care. read more

My wife had a bike accident on the local trail and we came to the emergency room. She hurt her wrists knees headache. Scott primary nurse who is very compassionate and a pleasure to deal with. The security man was very nice and helped us in hospital . My wife had x-rays diagnosed with a broken wrist and a sprained wrist. I found this to be very pleasant hospital and ER room. Oncology Hemotology. Doctor PA to nurses. Absolutely awful. What anxiety when your already so sick. Please don't go here if you can go somewhere else. The behavior invasive questions into your private life. They are anti opioid and anxiety medication when they don't even know why you take it. They judge you do harshly Miss everything. Suggest medication your allergic to and don't even look in your chart. They go on and on about long appointments comprehensive and it's 10 minutes of Siddiqui treating you like you're a completely uneducated person. His PA is scary irresponsible. I have never felt so attacked disrespected and truly low because of these people. read more

Last year our doctor said that my wife needed a colonoscopy, and that it could be provided at Huggins hospital by a surgeon. He would provide the order, and she would be contacted by the hospital. She was not contacted for months. She needed to plan a day out of work. each week she would call the hospital and ask if the doctor's order had been provided. Each week she was told no, no orders yet. each week she would call the doctor's office to inquire, and each week she would be told that the orders had been sent, she would just have to wait for the hospital to call. Although each office worked for the same hospital system, each refused to call each other to determine what the problem was. After 6 months the hospital did call to tell her they did have the orders, but they would have to confirm health care coverage. More weeks passed. The hospital eventually called to schedule the procedure. The health coverage was confirmed. They were scheduling 3 months out. A date was selected. 2 weeks prior to the procedure my wife received preparatory instructions, and her health coverage was confirmed again. the morning of the procedure we arrived at the hospital and checked in without issue. We moved to the surgery waiting room. As my wife is being lead in to have her colonoscopy, the same woman who registered us, approached. She now told us that the hospital must verify insurance coverage immediately after check in, and they were unable to do so. She said the billing department called Blue Cross, but there was no answer. they did not leave a message.She suggested that we agree to pay out of pocket for the procedure, and seek reimbursement from Blue Cross. She could not tell us what it would cost us. She could not assure us that we would be billed the same cost as the hospital would bill Blue Cross. We declined the procedure. We called Blue Cross immediately upon arriving home. we left a message on voice mail. Blue Cross called us back within minutes and confirmed coverage. They offered to call the hospital, but of course it is too late. We were told we could start the whole process once again. My wife loss a days pay. My wife endured the preparation procedure. My wife endured months of anxiousness about the colonoscopy, all for nothing. In October of 2024, during my physical, my doctor told me that he was going to order a bone can. I had a previous medical issue, and he wanted to confirm the issue had not returned. I heard nothing until today. Today, 6/26/25 I received an email from Huggins Hospital. The email indicated that they had orders from my doctor for my bone scan, and I needed to call to schedule the scan. I called the hospital, as requested. I had a very good experience while staying here. Both the ER and OR staff working on me were friendly and knowledgeable. The room after surgery was also clean and the nurses were very friendly. Dr.Huleatt and the team did a wonderful job!!! Don't come here intentionally but if you need to go to the hospital this may be the place for you!!! read more

I do not recommend this hospital for anyone with complex care requirements. That is based on experiences with both of my parents going here at different times. It's probably fine for something minor but if you have a patient that requires holistic care and or advanced multiple medical requirements, the best thing to do is request a transfer to their primary hospital. When my mother was hospitalized, I was promised a call back from Dr. Hussein and it never came. I'm still waiting on a callback regarding my father's well-being from the orthopedics department and I have never received it. It's a very frustrating hospital to work with. Got charged nearly $2000 for a singular ER visit for something that ended up being nothing. Just for a singular X-ray. I was also 20 years old at the time, in what world is that even remotely ethical? Actually remarkable. The doctor I dealt with too was awful and rude. Absolute joke and I will be calling a patient advocate. Just wasted an hour and a half at the ER AND WAS NEVER SEEN. Arrived at the ER to have a cast removed. Got wet over the weekend and was advised to go to an ER to have it cut off by my doctor. Which literally takes 1 minute and then would need the injured appendage splinted and wrapped. That takes less then 10. Showed up to a ER with a waiting room that had no one waiting to be seen and was made to wait over an hour and a half! When I told the receptionist that I've been waiting over a hour and a half for literally something that a nurse, Er tech or any one who knows how to cut a cast (super easy just need the tool that will cut it) and can splint/bandage that injury. To easy! The receptionist snarky replied "they are busy!" Busy?! Busy doing what? No patients in the waiting area and a hour and a half with out being even triaged!!!!!! That's not busy! That's neglect and boarder line malpractice!!! read more

My grandfather (mid 80's) was brought in tonight with impacted earwax which led to an infection in one ear. The ER doctor refused to flush his ears, gave him drops for one ear (both are impacted) and belittled him about going to the emergency room and "wasting her time, don't return unless it's a stroke or heart attack". I had an accident resulting in a collapsed lung, broken clavicle, scapula, 9 ribs and some facial bones. I was seen by Frank Valenti in the pain clinic first who helped significantly reduce my pain. The surgical team lead by Tim OBrien and Dr Huleat from Orthopedics got me fixed up and on the road to recovery quickly with a much smaller incision then I was expecting. The CRNA Scott Dugas did a wonderful job providing anesthesia and controlling the pain and especially keeping me from coughing post procedure (I was most nervous about coughing with so many broke ribs). I'm very appreciative of the whole experience at Huggins Hospital. read more

I would not recommend Huggins Hospital. Incompetent staff, the rudest people I have ever dealt with when going through an emotional time. Don't look for sympathetic nurses in this hospital. Husband fell at home due to current health problems. Taken by rescue, unable to stand on his own. While in the hospital, husband asked for water & urinal because unable to stand or walk. The nurse on duty brought in water & urinal and placed it out of reach. When he said I can't reach it, she said well, you're going to have to try. What are you going to do at home. When talking with nurse myself, she told me she did not like my tone of voice and if I didn't change my tone with her, she was going to hang up. Overall, my visit to Huggins warrants a three. The ER seemed fabulous. Short wait. Lovely and kind people. The facilities are nice and new with individual rooms, not cubicles. It comfortable, friendly and calming. I went in for a C Diff concern. They sent me home with a kit so I could bring in a sample because I could not give one there. The website says they close at 8pm. I got there just after 6 and it was already closed so I went through the emergency department to leave the sample. The receptionist gave me directions to the lab. Easy enough to find. The hallways were empty. The place seemed deserted. No one was in the lab. I could hear voices, but no one came to the desk. I picked up the phone as it said to do on a sign but no one answered. Finally, someone happened by and I left my sample. She said nothing about getting the results. I figured someone would call. No one called me with the results. Not the lab. Not the ER. Luckily, I had registered for their portal and just happened to see the results. Three days and nothing. No call. No follow up. Zero. I chose the ER over urgent care because they did not take insurance. Seems like the Wolfeboro/Alton area has few options for good medical care. read more

They're still trying but not there yet. I've used this hospital off-and-on since relocating here 6 years ago. This time, I went for a routine colonoscopy early on a Tuesday morning. On lobby check-in I had to use a "used pen" as there were no "sanitized pens", then wait in the "general Surgery" waiting room for 10 minutes prior to entry. Great physician, wow, the best I've ever seen! Great nurses - fantastic, competent and caring. The anesthesiologist was condescending, but very good at what she was doing, and so tolerable. In-and-out by 10:44 AM. On Thursday evening I felt the first symptoms of COVID. I tested on Friday morning after a horrible night of no sleep. Yup, positive for COVID. Two facts - (1) I went directly to my home and did not leave my home after returning on Tuesday morning after discharge. (2) At the CDC website, they list the current COVID variants as having an incubation time (from exposure to onset of symptoms) of 48 - 60 hours. I displayed symptoms 58 hours after arriving at Huggins and about 55 hours after leaving Huggins. So in summary, they've made inroads to improving patient experiences, and you can tell they are trying to do this deliberately. They should be recognized and commended for this. Great physicians, nurses, etc... are acknowledged and they get you in-and-out quickly, efficiently and competently. As is sometimes the case, in trying so hard on the big things, they are missing the mark badly on the things that their "indirect staff" are supposed to be doing to protect patients from adverse experiences. Yes, COVID patients end up in hospitals. I get that. So make sure your clerical, housekeeping, and other staff are taking the precautions necessary to prevent spread to others. I got to meet Dr Michael Giovan this past August in the ER after I fell camping. He was able to set my leg and point me in the direction I'd need to go when I returned home. The ER team was great. I saw Izzy in radiology and Amanda was my main nurse. I was able to have my own private, quiet room. The staff made my family and I feel comfortable. Thanks for helping me. read more

Please don't go to Huggins unless you want to DIE. This is the worst place I have ever been to. On several occasions I had to walk out of the ER when I was very sick with 104 fever and shortness of breath. So while they pussy footed around not attending to my needs for hours, uncovered shivering to death while the ER nurse walked back and fourth in the hallway with my warm blankets instead of going in the room and covering me. Also, the EKG machine was broken while they spent an hour trying to make it work, Oh, and with the sticky monitor thing applied in the wrong place. Finally they said they had a machine upstairs that worked but did not bother to go get it. Then while being pricked with needles that they could not administer correctly the Doctor comes in yelling at me for getting upset that I was being treated like shit by all of them. Well there is more to the tragic story, as I said. I had enough torture and got up to go to a real Hospital while they sat there saying BYE behind my back. How nice of them.... Well I am Happy to announce that a real Hospital treated me swiftly. With acute upper respiratory infection they first did a Covid test which Huggins did not bother to do in the middle of the Covid Crisis ???? I moved here to be close to a hospital - this was a big mistake. Now I have to drive an hour to get medical treatment and I suffer from chronic pain which needs attention often. I swear they have me flagged because this has happened more than once there. I could go on and on about other mistakes my caregivers did to me there but this is enough for now. Anyone in this community that disagrees with my review ? ....can kiss my ass. Oh, one more thing. My wife had a doctor there that refused to see her for a severe foot injury this week. They said that there were no openings until next week after saying they were taking patients in the internal medical building. Funny they called back as well saying they were booked and to seek other medical facilities ... So we had to drive an hour to get her foot looked at which needed to be drained from infection. May I mention she is 70 and had to drive herself with a painful foot. So it's for sure that Huggins Hospital flags patients. She has done nothing to them. We both now refuse to go there. If we have a medical emergency we both signed a document that we would rather die on the ride to Concord then ever go to this Hospital, as we would most likely die going to Huggins Hospital. Sorry if my penmanship/grammar is erratic for I have loss feeling in both my hands because of years of misdiagnosis's from Huggins Hospital. I have sent in complaints which the Cowards just ignore. Huggins' ER is really variable depending on who you get as a doctor. I live in the area and have been to the ER numerous times. If I can. I try to avoid Huggins because the standard of care is so variable. I went in on the 18 because I had an irritation in my eye and saw Dr. Gutierrez who decide to first do a flush, and if that didn't work, do another exam to see if there was an abrasion. The nurse who did the 500cc flushing was great. I got soaked, which she had warned me would happen, but after the flushing, we found a small, pale irritant in the eye. Happy, I was sent home with the advice that if they didn't get all of it, I should come back. Several hours later, I went back and saw Dr. Krupp who did a visual exam and announced I must have a tiny abrasion which he couldn't see, and prescribed erythomycin ointment. Wait a minute, I tried to say, I can feel something moving around. Did the patient's opinion matter? No. Dr. Krupp did a visual exam and since he couldn't find an irritant, decided to prescribe an antibiotic ointment with the recommendation I see an eye doctor on Mon... Great, I knew what the problem was. Dr. Gutierrez had found the irritant sand said to come back is he didn't get all of it. I go back, and this new doctor decides because he can't see it I need antibiotic... Knowing that the problem was an irritant, I googled what to do and spent the next hour flushing my eye out... I think I got it. It feels better right now, but if it doesn't, I know what to do -- don't bother going to Huggins ER. Google it, and treat myself. read more
