Please do not give Hughes your business. When we purchased our floor we were very clear that we had dogs and needed something durable. The salesman, Tim, came to our house and saw our existing floor and the space the new floor would be in, including said dogs. Our current floors are 15 years old and still in great condition, btw. We tried for 6 months to resolve this issue and they would not replace the damaged floors without additional cost to us. They were horrible to work with through the entire experience. They lied about submitting the initial claim and then refused to give us a copy after asking 6 times. I have never, ever written a review in my life but cannot let someone else experience what we did. Please, do not give your money to this unethical business. read more

7 years ago, Hughes changed out my fake hardwood flooring for their "highly recommended" brand and model of vinyl planks. We were thrilled even though it was not cheap. Fast forward to summer 2022 about 6 years after installation. Two of the planks started separating. Being a huge fan of Hughes I called them to see if they could fix it. I even thought this expensive floor might be under some long-term warranty. So the head guy comes out. He took one look at the floor and said it was 1. Not under any warranty and 2. Could not be repaired. Instead he said the floor would need to be replaced. Now this is in the kitchen and the entire first floor flows in an open floor plan. So that meant the enitre first floor needed to be replaced. I choked. He said he would go back to his office and talk to the repair team and see if there was anything that could be done but he knew there wasn't. Two months later I had heard nothing and sent him an email. He responded that he was still checking. Two more months week buy, and I sent another. Nothing. One day while my carpet was being cleaned, I asked the owner if he knew of someone. And he did. I called them and they came out in 2 days. Said it was a pretty quick fix when I was ready. Due to travel and then Covid and then the holidays we just had it fixed this week. Took them less than an hour. Best part is we did not have to tear up the entire first floor. Not sure if Hughes is all they are cracked up to be. And pretty sure that even though we might want new carpet in the next year or so I will not call them. Just shows the big guys are not always the best. Just bigger. Would give a negative review if I could as one star is too much. Shop around. read more

In 2016 I contracted with Hughes Floor Covering to replacing the carpet in our master bedroom and closet with hardwood that matched the rest of our home. Hughes Floor Covering accepted the responsibility of providing hardwoods to match the home based on their expertise in the hardwood industry. They represented to us they had matched the wood in our home, and we agreed to contract with them. In November 2018 we requested an estimate from another hardwood company to sand and apply a lighter color finish to improve the look. We eventually contracted with this company during the pandemic and the work was completed in June of 2020. We found that the wood floors through most of our house are "White Oak". But much to our surprise, the wood installed by Hughes Floor Covering is "Red Oak" (has a pinkish color to it). This was not noticeable before because of the darker "natural" stain that was used and only visible by having the floors sanded and stained a lighter color. I reached out to Hughes Floor Covering and they said that since it was installed in 2016, they weren't interested in doing anything and the warranty would not cover the issue. However, the issue before us is not a warranty for defective workmanship or product. It has been discovered that Hughes Floor Covering breached the agreement by not installing the proper hardwood. It was promised as part of our agreement they would match the wood. To make sure, Hughes Floor Covering cut a sample out of our existing hardwood floor so their machine would identify the exact match and prevent this exact set of circumstances. The fact that Hughes Floor Covering has as much expertise in the industry as they do and have invested in technology that supports the accurate identification of the various would species, raises serious questions about how this breach of contract could have ever happened. The fact that they refuse to address the clear error on their part raises even more questions. read more

The installation was difficult for both properties. And in 6 years, the seams have separated, the tucks at the doors are fraying, and the carpet looks worn. Me and my husband ordered our vinyl flooring from Hughes Floor Covering. We had moved to the beach but they sent someone to do the work. The workers broke my front indoor light and let water leak from my washer through the floor to the ceiling below. Then they used high gloss paint to try to cover it up. Then a stair nose was used in a place in our entry way to the living room. It has broken all the way off. Other floor places said you would never use that in that particular area. I have tried calling to get satisfaction. I have sent pictures to Rodney, with no reply. Never ever use this place for your flooring. read more

At first, I was wowed. I mean--my boyfriend and I went to the location and had a great first experience. Great service--they have a huge selection. Then we ordered. We were told to give them at least a week IN CASE but it usually only took a couple of days for the tile to arrive. Two weeks later--we follow up--where is our tile? We're told Oh it's been here for a couple of days. ??? We weren't notified. My boyfriend tells the guy that he'll be there Monday afternoon between 5-6 to pick up the tile and to have it ready. Monday comes, he gets there at 515. The guy with the warehouse key is "gone for the day." We were told--sorry, you can't pick up your tile today. Now slightly more than aggravated after dropping over $1000 on tile that had just been sitting at their location and NOT being installed in our home... and not being able to pick it up.... we asked to have it delivered. They balked. There's usually a charge for that. Wow. Again, we asked for a delivery. Free. They said they'd check the schedule and call us. We ended up going back to pick up the tile ourselves. I do not recommend this place. They blow you off after they have your money! NOT RECOMMENDED! read more

Unfortunately, we made several attempts to have them come back out and finish the work they started, plus several more rooms to go in our remodeling project. We called and left several email messages and after several weeks and threats to no longer use them, they finally sent a quote. We agreed to the quote, but they failed to contact us back to set up installation. This was a very bad experience and is totally unacceptable! We had a minor crisis in our life when we had water damage from an appliance in our home. After contacting the insurance company they dispatched one of their approved mitigation companies to remove the water, damaged flooring, and damaged sub floors. After 10 days of getting the moisture out, we proceeded with starting the reconstruction process using the same mitigation company, but a different division. Since they do not do flooring they were going to sub-contract it out. After they submitted an estimate to the insurance company which was approved, they came out with the sub contractor. We had decided that we were going to use the same flooring that we had, but since we would not be able to match the existing flooring we would change color. I contacted Armstrong since they were the manufacturer of our existing flooring, they recommended to that we go to Hughes Floor Covering to view sample in person. When we first walked in we were set on the same flooring we had. We were greeted by Angie, who was straight forward, knowledge and most importantly sincere. We explained what we were trying to do, and she was more than helpful. Then my wife spotted a different Armstrong flooring (Pryzm). This looked amazing and after talking in depth with Angie, we decided to do a little research. We decided to go with the upgrade. I called the company that the insurance company referred us and told them we were going in another direction. We called Angie and she came out the next day, completed the measurements, and I had the estimate the next morning. I sent that to the insurance company and it was approved. We gave Angie the go ahead, and a deposit (although she told me since it was an insurance situation they would of done it without it). This was on a Friday with the plan of starting the reconstruction (major job of new flooring, new subfloors and all new moldings) on the following Wednesday. Wednesday morning they came began putting our back together after a month of living in a home where we had to be careful where we walked. The spent Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday getting this job done. All I can say is they did a phenomenal job. It looks fantastic, and in my opinion this is a company who really cares about the customer, stands behind their work, and is a real of example of how a business should do business. We would never go anywhere else ever again for flooring. They definitely won us over. read more

We started working with Rodney and Hughes Floor Covering a few months ago to re-do all the floors on our main level. We wanted wood throughout with engineered tile in the bathroom and laundry. It took me a couple of months to decide on the wood we wanted. The selection process was not without its hiccups, but it was never anything major enough to send up any red flags. When the installers arrived to start the install, they had the wrong tile size. Fortunately, we had written proof of our request and that it was their error. They re-ordered the correct tile with no issues and installed the wood. We were very pleased with how everything was going until they came back to install the tile. No one had ever discussed grout with us, and because all the product images on the sample and online showed the floor with grout, we assumed ours would be grouted. It was not, and we were unhappy with the install. This is where our biggest dissatisfaction with dealing with Rodney starts. We called him immediately after seeing the way the tile was installed, and did not receive a call back, so we followed up with an email. His response to our email was rude and unprofessional. He said they don't offer grout for that product because of industry issues with the grout, and that he was not responsible for the installation issues, and mentioned that he had to order new tile due to his previous error, and wouldn't order any more tile at his cost. We replied pointing out that someone should have discussed the grout, and concerns around grouting this product, with us. We said him having to reorder the correct tile for us was immaterial to the current situation. His order error was not a reason to not correct the install problem. We questioned who would be responsible if not him. His response to this email essentially accused us of intentional deceit, insinuating that because we had done so much research on the wood products, that we must have known the engineered tile could be installed with or without grout. Never mind how insulting we found that, and how shocked we were that a business owner would communicate with a customer this way, even if we had known there were options, they never discussed it with us to find out what we wanted. He offered to reinstall the floor at cost and said he would send us a quote for the cost to reinstall the flooring with grout, but we never heard back, even after numerous attempts to reach him. We decided as a result of the extremely poor customer service and lack of responses, we did not want to give Hughes Floor Covering any additional business, so we paid our bill and ceased the relationship. He did honor an old coupon, so we'll at least give him credit for that. All in all, if you have no issues with anything in the process, you may come out very pleased, but based on my experience, and apparently at least one other review here, if you have any issues, don't expect any level of customer service and possibly no resolution to your complaint. Two weeks ago Tim and Mike finished installing our new hardwood floor. I must say that I have never been more disappointed with the workmanship that a company has done at me house. 1. Neither my wife or I smoke and I am allergic to cigarette smoke. Yet, on Sunday, August 26, I spent 3 hours picking up cigarette butts off of my driveway and my lawn and totally cleaning the front of my house. Tim and Mike decided to set up their chop saw on my front porch and my windows, front door, all the woodwork, the railings and baluster's were covered in saw dust. Additionally, all my plants are covered in saw dust. I suffer from severe allergies (to the tune of 8 shots a week) and did not need this dust all over the front of my house. I could not believe that their employees would do that to someones house. They couldn't have done it in the driveway? 2. When they pulled into my driveway, they ran over the paver border that runs the length of my driveway. Those pavers took me 3 weeks to install and were cemented in and leveled. They are not now! How could they have backed off the driveway and into my planting bed? Especially, when I have a pole with a reflector on it, just to stop this type of thing from happening. 3. They scratched the top of our china hutch. 4. I spent 1 1/2 hours cleaning glue off just 1/2 of the dining room floor. I have not had the time to finish the rest of the floors, yet. 5. They left a 1/2 inch gap between the flooring and the door sill of my back door. The floor was supposed to butt up to the door sill, just like the floor they removed. Now, I have to figure out what to do about that. 6. When laying the floor they broke the pattern IN EVERY ROOM. The first day that they were at the house, we were very specific about the pattern we wanted. I guess we should not have bothered, since they layed it in whatever fashion they felt like. 7. We have bought these concerns to Rodney's attention. He was suppose to come out to the house, but he canceled on us. Plus, he has yet to return 1 of our phone calls. We have to keep calling him, until we finally get him on the phone. We have finally given up trying to get in contact with Rodney. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! read more

Three Years ago this month via the recommendation of a friend, I had Randy Hughes quote, furnish, and install $24k of flooring in our home. I had no experience with hardwood flooring and trusted Randy's assistance and recommendation with our selection. Randy confirmed that the flooring we were buying was top quality and would with stand normal wear as long as we padded the furniture and did not allow stiletto heeled shoes on the flooring. I trusted Randy and didn't not even get a signed Contract and also paid cash. After installation of the flooring, we found it to be extremely soft and dented very easily under normal wear which gave us a sick feeling. After discussing w/Randy multiple times, he admitted that he had not done his research on the flooring product and NO LONGER SELLS IT and would work with us to replace it. We felt much better even though this was going to be a major inconvenience considering the rework. Me and my wife then met w/Randy and the sales Rep face-to-face to discuss replacement of the flooring w/Randy then saying we should have done our own research and he was not going to TAKE A HIT and would not HELP with the replacement of the flooring. I have never experienced anything like this in my life and no one should. I trusted Randy Hughes only to find that we TOOK THE HIT and integrity had no meaning. read more

After reading online about vinyl click flooring for our kitchen, We went to 4 different flooring stores, ready to order and schedule installation., No one in these 4 stores (2 big box, 2 custom only flooring stores), no one knew anything about vinyl click flooring except reading from a brochure. Rodney Hughes not only could tell us about the options, he gave suggestions, let us take home samples and actually had experience in installing this flooring system and recommended the better quality companies. He came to our house, took measurements, made suggestions about our kitchen install. He even explained why our hardwood floors (installed by another company) were 'cupping'. Rodney is a great resource and knowledgeable about about all types of flooring. Our order was on time and his very competent and friendly installers arrived on time and did a beautiful job. The installers were detailed, asked us questions about how we wanted the floor pattern installed, made sure the transition strip between kitchen and den/dining room hardwood floors were matched to our satisfaction. They put down 6-8 strips of flooring so we could see how it would look, before installing. The installers respected our property, made sure the work area was left clean and we were asked to inspect the install during and after.
