A real barber shop. The guys are awesome! A little expensive. $18 for a haircut.

Didn't have high expectations about this barbershop, they don't even have a website... we were greeted extremely rudely, should of read the previous reviews because all we got is "What do you want." (Not a pleasant atmosphere for me and my Hispanic partner) Also the barbers didn't know what a Drop Fade is... that should of been another sign to find another place. I even had a photo of the fade pulled up and this is what I got. My fade isn't even nor is it close to what I asked for. To top it off their equipment is very old and not taken care of, my hair kept getting pulled and I kept getting stabbed with the clippers. So if you have tough skin and don't mind terrible service this is the place for you. read more

Looking for more of a hometown barbershop rather than the chain store experience that I am quite tired of. Saw this business listed as one of the former so I ventured out to check it out. I knew it was possible for me to have a bad experience as I had not been there before but was looking for a new positive one. Well those hopes were dashed as soon as I pulled up. A sign posted clearly read "Attention: No Walk Ins Allowed." A handwritten sign on the door said "We are open by appointment only." Needless to say when you have posted business hours and a customer arrives during those hours and the shop was indeed closed it hurts your business. My message to the proprietor of this business is "I suppose you don't want any money." If zero was a rating I would give it. Good job on the 1 star rating though. You didn't have to do anything to get it. read more

I had high expectations based on the previous reviews but the reality is that 18 days later, I need another haircut. This place has the atmosphere of a classic barber shop but I just didn't get a good haircut--twice. Granted, I don't have a lot of hair left to cut but I'm used to getting a haircut that is even and isn't just some quick snipping and buzzing followed by a neck trim and combing for $18. As I am reading some of the reviews on here it is apparent to me that this place is catered for a certain demographic. They are a business and it is their choice to treat specific clientele in a specific manner, but just know that you are going to lose customers. I wish I would have read the reviews on here before I came. If money isn't your motive then go right ahead and continue with your ways. I came here to get a haircut after work and was greeted rudely by an older white gentleman. I am African American and as I looked around it was obvious that I was not their clientele. He asked me what I wanted. Well... what do you think I want if I am walking into a barber shop? He said that he doesn't know how to cut my kind of hair. Very disappointed, I asked for a low bald fade and the barber gave me a high and tight. When I told him he gave me the wrong haircut he said I needed to bring a picture in... Would not recommend this place. read more

I just recently moved to the Richmond area and I quickly became anxious about finding a new barber because a good, old-fashioned one who knows how to do a good job is always tough to find (I'm very picky about who cuts my hair). I'm really glad I found a rating on Yelp for this place because otherwise I might not have found it. Traditional barber shop, very clean, friendly, lots of sports memorabilia hanging on the walls, and a couple of TVs tuned into ESPN in the background. My barber did a nice job and a straight razor shave is included after the haircut. At $18, it was a couple bucks more than what I'm used to spending, but no big deal and it's not as high as some places in Richmond that I've heard about. I will definitely be going back to Huguenot Barber Shop. read more

A great place IF: - you want your barber to act annoyed and flustered when you ask for a simple medium fade - you want him to completely ignore what you said and (poorly) give you a cop-like high and tight as quickly as possible, leaving speed bumps and stray hairs everywhere - you like ultimately paying $20 for an $8 haircut I won't be back, myself read more

It's a decent place and the stylists are friendly. Notice I said 'stylists'. This is NOT a true barber shop. It's a salon that caters to men. Sports memorabilia on the walls and ESPN on the TV. It is not a true, old school barber shop. Despite what a previous poster said, this place does NOT do straight razor shaves. Again, they do not have barber's licenses therefore they cannot shave you. It is EXPENSIVE. $18 for a mens haircut. $16 for a kids haircut. A bit on the pricey side if you ask me. That $18 is, again, just for a haircut - not a haircut and a shave. Price aside, the haircut was decent and the staff was friendly. There are less expensive an equally good places to get your haircut in the area. If you want a true, old school barber shop, this is not it. If you want a decent haircut and don't mind paying $18 for it, this is your place. read more

Worst place ever!!!!!!!!! I walked in and it took 10mins to greet me and a friend. One lady who worked there looked at me with her giant herpes on her face, and asked me what do you want in a rude way, as if I was imposing on her life. I was then greeted by a 70 year old man who I now call the butcher. He cut my hair so bad that I'm still letting it grow out 3 weeks later. This place needs to close. Don't waste your time going here. I'd give them negative stars if I could. read more

I was headed to DC for a business trip and found this place on yelp. The female barber was going to stay late and cut my hair, which I appreciated, but the male barber finished his customer and offered to cut my hair. I was glad I took the offer though I have to admit, from the looks of his hair and facial hair I had my doubts about how it was going to turn out. After a tour in the Marine Corps and getting more than 25 years of haircuts weekly as a Law Enforcement Officer I was real happy with the results. It was actually the best haircut I have ever gotten. I was nervous when he was using the clippers and razor to define the edges of my hairline but again - It was an amazing haircut. Headed up again and will "go out of my way" to visit this place again. I just hope the same barber is available. read more

I judge a barber shop by their clippers. If they use plastic guards, it's not a real barber shop. This place is legit. They are a little pricey, but they do an excellent job. A real no frills barber shop, but you do get a straight razor neck shave at the end. And great sports talk with Bo. read more
