Didn't even get seated. We've been to a HuHot before and my kids loved it so we thought we would bring them again. When we walked in, they asked how many and we said a party of eight. We have small children one who is a diabetic and she said that she would have to sit us separately at two different booths -despite the fact that I was looking at a table that had at least six seats with no one sitting there. I'm not going to pay over $100 for a meal with my family and not be able to sit WITH my family. Part of the fun about going out to dinner is to sit together as a family and experience the meal together. We cut our teeth on the OG Mongolian Grill - Lee's Mongolian in Ogden - and while they are still are favorite go-to, this place is a perfect backup. As far as comparisons, HuHot has 5 times the toppings and sauces that the other local Mongolian BBQs have. Steak, chicken, pork, shrimp and crab are all available as your proteins with your choice of a number of noodle types and veggies. Their sauces are outstanding as well. They have great, flavorful appetizers as you'd expect and you will never leave this building hungry, guaranteed. HuHot is a fun Mongolian grill where you can create your own dishes and watch them cook it in front of you! I was really excited when this location was built, but the service wasn't as good as others that I've been to. Our waiter wasn't very friendly or knowledgeable, and we often had to ask someone to refill items and sauces. The food itself was pretty good and I liked that you could go back and try as many different combinations as you'd like. They have a lot of suggestions for mixing sauces (and different heat levels) which makes it easy to end up with something yummy. I recommend trying the pad thai! The lines weren't ever too long at the stations which made it easy to go back for more. It costs about $15 for all you can eat, and you're not allowed to take home any leftovers. If it were cheaper I'd probably come back more often. read more

So I have seen this place several hundred times lol, we never stop by here but always say we will. I decided to stop by and grab some food. As soon as you walk in every one is friendly, and funny and down to earth. The cook was dope and he made me laugh and was doing some cool tricks. He said he only been there about a month but he was really funny and understanding and he knew what he was talking about. I really enjoyed talking to him and him explaining all the food and how they cook and cut it. Since this first experience i have been back 5 times and actually will go later today lol. Happy to find Mongolian bbq out here in Utah. I got my order to go, but it's more worth it to dine in if you can since that's all you can eat. For to-go orders, you get a bigger bowl than normal. My only qualm is they should suggest how many ladles for to-go orders because even though I did like 16 ladles of sauce, I felt like it was a bit dry for my order. I like my Mongolian bbq pretty saucy and dark, so next time I'll load up on the ladles. Taste wise, it's good! Decent Mongolian bbq. It doesn't really compare to what I've had at California, but I think if I sauce it up more next time, it'll give me better results. It does have the most extensive selection of ingredients I've ever seen in Mongolian bbq places though. Tons of different vegetables and their sauce station is insane. They give you tips on how many ladles to add for the bowls (dine in size). I just added the flavors I knew to be good together. 4.5 stars. HuHot made it nice birthday visit for my wife last week. The meat freezer was stocked a little better than when we were here last May-- three kinds of shaved frozen meats, shrimp, surimi, two kinds of smoked sausage, and don't remember bacon before, though admittedly popcorn chicken (that doesn't get crispy while getting cooked on the grill) is a little weird, but probably popular with the kids. I was especially happier to find blanched green beans, asparagus and mushrooms among the veg offerings, plus the after-cooking toppings bar is open again (sesame seeds, chow mein noodles, peanuts, coconut, etc). The fresh cranberries were also an unexpected cooked-in topping, but were a nice seasonal accent to the richness of other ingredients. And as usual, lots of sauce choices. The sauces bar seemed slightly expanded from last spring too; I don't remember green curry and coconut milk before, but so, so tasty were they. And the five-hotness-rated Kung Pao sauce was actually pleasantly spicy this time! We almost squeaked out a repeat on the birthday serenade from our waitress and team -- not quite -- but they still tried to make us feel welcome. Excellent concept for dinner when you are eating with picky folks. Options abound here and the price won't put you in the poor house. Unlike a traditional buffet, food is put out raw/frozen and you build your bowl with your proteins, starches, and veggies. Ladle on some of the sauces from the plentiful selection and then take it to the grill masters for a quick cook. There are plenty of cards, boards, etc, giving you hints on what you can build based on flavor profiles. Great for indecisive people or those not very bold to try new things. All of the ingredients are fresh and the buffet is kept wiped down and clean. Very impressive. The folks bringing drinks, appetizers, etc, are extremely nice and take good care of you. Ingress and egress from this restaurant is pretty wonky and you have to pay attention on getting in and out of the parking lot. It's at a horrible intersection. Darleen was the worst waitress we have ever had. She took drink orders and that's it. No salads, no soups. We had to hunt her down to ask for straws so our kids could drink from their lidded cups. That's after waiting 10 mins. We knocked on the kitchen doors and she was in the back gossiping to a young girl with green and pink hair, the young girl came to the door and when I asked her if she could send out our waitress she gave me the dirtiest look and just stared at me. I then asked for a salad and she brought it out but I wondered if someone is willing to blatantly ignore us, helping every other table surrounding us, she's probably terrible enough to spit in the salad. She went back into hiding (just from our table) and we had to wait AGAIN and hunt her down AGAIN to pay. She walked by us, we were standing there holding our card with a screaming baby in arm, she blatantly ignored us. The entire restaurant was staring at us. We finally went out to the car to take the kids out and when we went back in she finally asked if we wanted to pay. Next time we won't wait. We'll walk out and not come back in. We were nothing but polite and nice to her and everyone who worked there. There's absolutely no excuse for being treated that way. We drove an hr to eat here. It used to be good. Not anymore. I had lunch with my girlfriend here today. I love how clean it is and the simple the set up is inside. The stations are nice and clean and it wasn't very packed. You get your noodles, meat, veggies and sauce (I appreciate the assortment of sauces and descriptions at the top of the bar) and then take it to the grill master lol They have options for appetizers and drinks - we had the pot stickers and egg rolls and they were yummy. Pros: The food and selection is pretty good in the evening. Plenty of sauces and veggies allow you to avoid carbs and stick to the healthier fats, proteins and veggies. Some of the sauces are loaded with sugar, so I mostly stuck with the oils. The grill workers are fast and seem to enjoy thier work. Cons: A number of inefficiencies clog the whole process and make eating here far too time consuming with most of the evening spent waiting. About 40% of your time is spent waiting for others to move through the buffet. Another 30% is spent waiting for the line to move to the grill. 10% is at the grill with your remaining 20% eating at the table. The place is also a disaster with spilled sauces and food all over the floors and counters. For $15, you're paying a lot to either wait a long time or only eat a little food. By the time you cook up that heaping bowl of goodness, you're left with about 1/3 the volume on your plate. Meaning you leave hungry or stay late to get your fill. read more

The place was filthy. Food and sauce everywhere. None of the counters were clear. All the food was cross contaminating. Then every cook went in a circle and cooked everything with the same spatulas. So I could taste the clams from the person on the other side of the grill. Half my food ended up in my daughters plate since everyone was moving around so much. Mongolian bbq is one of our favorites. Sometimes the freezer burn can alter the taste... As was the case with the chicken. Maybe an odd night, but not the best flavor. Be sure to take the time to research the sauce combos. If you decide to "wing-it", you can easily go wrong and as such, you won't be thrilled by the outcome. Speaking from experience. Round one... good. Followed the directions on sauce. I love Hu Hot! So glad they're in Layton now. They're just off of Hill Field Road and Main Street, kind of hidden behind The Mattress Firm. Today was the grand opening. Apparently I'm not the only fan of this place. It was packed! And yet, we were greeted and seated quickly. Once our server came and got us set up with drinks, we were off to the grill. Lines move fast on both sides of each island. You grab your bowl (just 1, people) and fill it up with whatever tickles your fancy. I love their sliced sausage and sliced potatoes...two foods that aren't as traditional at Mongolian grills. I was surprised not to see shrimp or edamame, as I've had those at other locations. But no worries, plenty of other things to fill my bowl. Even though you can come back for as many bowls as you want, it's an unspoken challenge to fit as much protein, veggies, and noodles in my bowl as possible. Then it's on to the sauce station, which is what really sets Hu Hot apart from its competition. So many options! If you look above your head, you'll see a guide of 8 different sauce combinations going from mild to hot, if you're not sure which sauces to get. Regardless of what you select, it's recommended to get at least 5-6 ladles per bowl. After that, you step up to the grill (this is where the magic happens) and hand them your bowl, and they grill it on their giant round hot top as you wait. Hu Hot dispels the myth that Mongolian Grills have to be dives. The restaurant is clean with great decor and a trendy vibe. Great friendly service as well. My family and I went there last night and we were so disappointed with dinner. We left hungry and grabbed food in the way home. All of the veggies and meats were not being changed out properly. For example the pineapples were all fermented, the pork was sitting in a slimy water, the zucchini was all mixed up with fresh firm pieces and almost see through pieces, the raw onions were translucent. While there the guy topping off all of the items just poured the new food on top instead of properly swapping it out. My 11 year old even made the remark of the food being questionable. Besides the quality of food I'd also like to add that majority of the sauce blends are almost the same. This was our 2nd time here and definitely our last. We went when the place first opened years ago and we left feeling the same way. We thought we would try again since they've have heard at this point to work out the kinks, but maybe this just isn't in our taste buds. Service was decent. I will add that they had raw eggs still in shell that you could have them fry up to make fried rice and what not, that was an awesome add on and should be at all Mongolian grills. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. I was straight up called a lier by the General Manager, Mike Hartwick. I have been here many times before. Since my stomach surgery, I carry a patient card stating I can only eat about 4 oz at a time. So I'm always charged a kids price. Comes out to about $8 ish....this time, the GM approached me with mask IN HAND instead of on his face, and said, "I heard you're asking about prices". I said, "No, I know the cost, I get charged the same every time." He put his mask on and told me that I was wrong. That isn't their policy and it doesn't happen. So I told him it DOES every time. He continued to argue and tell me I must be thinking of another restaurant because they don't and never have. So I Karened it up and asked for his corporate #. He said im it, we are local. So i asked for the owners #. He gave me a card with a BOGUS phone number. I said I wouldn't be back and he shrugged and told me he didn't care. That (with a roll of his eyes) he was "sorry you feel that way". NEVER have i been called a lier and treated with such disrespect over a f&@&#×ing $5 difference. Broken. Came in with family. 3 adults and 2 kids. Was peak of dinner time. I understand that 6:30 is a stressful for employees. I don't blame them. The whole system that the establishment has to get a bowl and food and then get the chefs to cook it is broken. The place should be a quarter of the size to allow good service. 60 people with full bowls to cook and only one mongolian to grill is a flawed design. It's all you can eat for 17 bucks but you will only have the patience for one time around. Even if you only do one bowl the noodles are mushy and everthing else gets undercooked. Price should be cut in half. This bummed me out. Go somewhere else that does it better. read more

Tried this place due to our usual being too packed. First impression was that the restaurant was very well laid out, nice theme, and attentive staff. We struggled with the sauce balance and to be honest, the sauce combinations seem overly complicated. The real reason for the 2 stars is my boyfriend got extremely sick that night. I'm unsure what exactly might have caused it but it was definitely food poisoning and he was in terrible shape. We're thinking it was undercooked meat. You really cant complain about the food here...you pick what you want from a large selection of meats, veggies and rice or noodles, then you add all the flavor from a variety of sauces and they cook it up. Everytime it tastes a little different depending on how I change up the sauces. Cross Contamination Grill: This was the most disgusting buffet line with the most germ infested, no sneeze guard, filthy food you ever seen. The food items were mixed and cross contamination was abound. I am vegan with allergies and these people will literally kill someone one day. It's very serious to cross contaminate food. The Mongolian grill cooks don't even cook anything completely. I tried to eat but the taste was awful! Their Asian salad dressing was weird (I am a Eurasian person). And when I informed my waitress that my vegan bowl tasted like it had meat in if she literally laughed at me and tried to charge me. I told her I was scared for my health and wanted to leave. She looked at me and while still laughing AT me she printed my bill!! I didn't realize that at the time so when we left she and another young man followed me out to the parking lot screaming and causing a scene. They threatened to call the police on me In the front of other customers. The server accused me of dining and dashing. In the end they let me go because I could not eat that garbage! +3: Attentive Management: I called the manager the next day and informed her about what happened. According to her the server broke protocol by following, harassing, and embarrassing me. She offered a replacement meal and to serve me and even cook my food. I asked her to be lenient on her employees. I asked her to inform those employees that she was lenient and coach them instead of the discipline they apparently should have received according to Protocol. They may have made me look like complete white trash but I don't care what strangers think. What I care about is that the employees know that they were wrong for abusing me and that I am not the trash they made me out to be. This place is awesome. We came here kind of on a whim. Super good food. It is a buffet style Mongolian grill. Choose your own ingredients and they cook it on this big round stove. If you have food allergies tell your server and they bring you a special white bowl which tells everyone that they need to take extra precautions cooking on the grill. Unlimited meaning you can go back as many times as you want. Instant top-10 contender. Wide selection of ingredients to choose from and prices are reasonable. $12 for lunch and $15 for dinner. read more

If you like Mongolian style grill HuHot is definitely a good choice! This location is a bit tricky to get to but otherwise a very good location. It's clean, well maintained and the atmosphere is good. You have plenty of options when it comes to ingredients and sauces and all are extremely fresh. My one beef (see what it did there?!) with the place is that there are some slightly odd ingredients IMO. I don't pick sausage to go in my Mongolian, or black beans or corn and there are ingredients I feel would make way more sense instead such as shrimp and green beans. Otherwise this becoming one of our favorite places. If you go, sign up for their rewards with the app. You get a free appetizer and it tracks how many grills you buy (after 12 you get one free). The egg rolls aren't great (frozen and fried) the crab rangoons are decent, as well as the potsticker. The Raspberry Cheesecake wantons are AMAZING! They also have a cool soda machine.
