I hate giving bad reviews, but I have to tell you, this place is a hard pass. Even though it's located in an abandoned gas station, I thought, I'll try it, dives can be some of the best places. This place wasn't that. Blaaa. The mixed tempura was horrible. The batter tasted like year old baking grease. They have a decent selection of sushi rolls, but the 2 I got sucked. Tiger eye, tasted like the cooking grease mentioned earlier. Barf I got a really spicy roll that was mid, but I'd never order again. I could go on, but I won't. Trust me, hard pass if you like sushi. Probably good if you're a high school kid that has never had sushi before. Sorry small business owner, but I was disappointed. The floors were dirty, none of the tables wiped clean. This place has all sorts of variety of Asian cuisine. Chinese, Japanese, and Thai is what I saw. I got the bento box that and the best fried shrimp. The breading was great and the shrimp was good. The sushi with the bento box was ok. My wife's teriyaki chicken was good but it needed more sauce. My son ordered the orange chicken and it was so good. That may be the best out there. He also good a fried sushi roll that was good. I with close to here so I definitely will be coming here for a weekday lunch. read more

Across from an elementary school, Steed Park and fishing pond, baseball fields, pickleball courts and next to the grocery store and dance studio, it's always got life. Don't gauge by the parking because it's within walking distance of several neighborhoods. Lunch specials with loads of options and large portions. Plenty of inside seating and a sushi bar also. I absolutely cannot sing enough praise for Golden Ginger Bistro! My orders are spot on each and every single time. No matter the request or special instructions given, they deliver delicious fresh generous portions of food that will keep you full and if you're eating alone, plenty of leftovers for the next day. My addiction is real to this restaurant. My favorites as of late are (of course) the spicy crab roll, Bo Bo Platter, squid salad (SOOOO delicious!), Vietnamese Spring Rolls appetizer, and the Prozac Roll. The Bo Bo Platter is an excellent deal for the price. You get more than your money's worth with (2) chicken skewers, (2) cheese rangoons, (2) Gyoza, (2) shrimp tempura, and (1) Vietnamese egg roll that is cut into 4 bitesize pieces. I can never finish it all in one sitting. Always fresh and delicious. The Vietnamese Spring Rolls are absolutely humongous! They are hand rolled in rice paper including shrimp, lettuce, and rice noodles. They come with a side peanut sauce that is so rich in flavor very similar to peanut butter taste but with a thicker consistency of absolute perfection. The squid salad is beyond words! Fresh, spicy, (also comes with a side dressing if you prefer or want). I personally like mine naked because the seasoning is enough on it's own. There is A LOT of squid included. I could honestly eat this for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day of the week. The Prozac Roll I did not find extremely spicy, however, they do include wasabi and spicy mayo on the side if you request it. The roll itself is tempura shrimp, spicy tuna, and cucumber with eel and eel sauce and spicy mayo on top. The eel is what really brings it all together (imo, and I'm not even an eel super fan... however I think I am now after tasting this). Really good flavors when put all together. No wonder it's named after a prescription med depression! Lol Spicy Crabmeat roll I've had as both a regular roll and a hand roll and you can't go wrong with either. I wish I lived closer to this place but maybe it's better I don't because I probably wouldn't have much of a bank account left. Actually though, the prices are very reasonable and portions generous. We ordered a pickup order, and it was ready in about 20 minutes. I liked the sushi, nigiri, and teriyaki salmon, but the salad that comes with the bento box was just iceberg lettuce with sweet sauce on top. They also forgot to include the two bowls of miso soup that come with it read more

We often get the bento box because it has great variety but we've had their orange chicken and sushi rolls as well and they are so good. The service is also always very prompt and kind. This place is a hole in the wall! Must come! We went in on a Tuesday evening after work and got sushi plus a Chinese dish. General Tsaos was AMAZING, and it sits on a bed of thick crunchy noodles. It also came w white rice. The tang and kick to it was just right! The dish was $12 and could be split between 2-3 ppl. The rice not so much, though. We got Vegas roll, Wasatch roll, and Texas roll. You can never go wrong w Vegas, Wasatch was good, and the Texas is a MUST. It has slices of medium rare steak. The service was not slow at all. Great spot! I highly recommend it. read more

I got the Kung Po beef, and my wife got two sushi rolls. The Halloween, and the Prozac rolls. She did like the sushi. The Kung po was good. I was disappointed they had no hot mustard. They had sriracha sauce. Chinese hot mustard can make or break a meal. The prices are high for what you get. I left hungry. The food quality for price was two star, but I give Golden Ginger an extra star because the service was adequate and they were open on Sunday when the only other Chinese-American restaurants in the Layton/Clearfield area open were buffets. (Turns out for two adults and four kids the $70 price with tip was about the same as if we had chosen the buffets-- and I don't think the food here was much different.) The Orange Chicken and Sweet and Sour Chicken were expected and adequate-- maybe a touch better than a buffet. But the Beef With Vegetable and Shrimp With Snow Peas were lousy. The sauce was wimpy flavored and the vegetables weren't wok-seared at all. Tasted like partly-steamed veg and flabby meat and shrimp in thin-flavored sauce. Rice portions are quite small, including if you pay extra for the fried rice. Don't look at the fountain in the back corner where they fill up soft drinks. Pho (Vietnamese Style) was the worst Pho I have ever had in my entire life. This item should be removed from the menu. Broth was water, with a disturbing green blue tint, not even a hint of oil or seasoning. The noodles disintegrated into tiny pieces. The meat is thinly sliced beef, but looks like tiny pepperonis and is as chewy as beef jerky. The Pho does not come with what it should, items missing; HOISEN sauce, crisp bean sprouts, slice of jalapeño, fresh chopped onions, Thai basil and coriander/cilantro, and a slice of lime or lemon. What I got was noodles, and a tablespoon of soggy onion and bean sprout mix...eeeeh. Please just remove this from the menu!!! Also ordered was a rainbow roll, which was average, however one bite was an odd fishy taste that I wish I spit out. Husband order teriyaki chicken. He said it tasted like pre-cooked chicken that was heated again with teriyaki poured over it. Super dry. I ordered from here based on the numerous high rated reviews. But no, never again. read more

Food and service were pretty good. Still trying to find a good sushi joint but this will do in the meantime. Sushi rolls are made to order, your typical sauce-drenched American style rolls. Which is just a style, nothing wrong with that and I love me some American classics like rainbow and caterpillar rolls. Awesome! I've always been a bit wary of the places that are "always 50% off" but the last two sushi places with that motto have been fabulous. I'm not sure if this is the same owners as Sushi Garden Bistro in American Fork, but I found them comparable. Golden Ginger Bistro had a great selection, was ready much faster than door dash predicted (I ordered to go), was really good, and ended up being a bit less than $10 per roll on average which is pretty good these days. We got a variety of cheap and "expensive" (most expensive was $13) rolls. Our favorites were the three wild cards that we ordered: cowboys, Wasatch and Halloween. They were super flavorful and fun. The others we ordered were pretty standard ones you can get at any sushi place and they were good! Our 18 month old loved his California roll. read more

We are in take out mode right now with the pandemic scare so I called in my order for pick up. I ordered a Chinese Bento Box and a Sweet Potato Roll. It is one of my favorite meals that they offer. The roll is to die for with tempura battered sweet potato. The Bento Box was teriyaki chicken with California roll, house salad, pot stickers, and white rice. I love the California roll with just the right proportion of fillings. The teriyaki sauce is so yummy also, and the house salad dressing is sweet and savory at the same time. Well call me impressed! I wasn't expecting to find such good Chinese near my new home after settling for mediocre, flavorless Chinese for so long. We ordered sweet and sour chicken, kung pao chicken, and beef with green beans. All were great, but I was particularly impressed with the last two dishes. The meat to veggie portion was perfect. It was full of veggies and not just onions like other places. The veggies were diced small and cooked perfectly. Sauces were good, decently coated but not overly thick. They have unsweetened tea, but no artificial sweetener. Ordered a Dynamite Roll off the "half price menu." $6.50 and they did not upcharge for soy paper. Left off wasabi as requested. Rolled very tight - thank you! - didn't fall apart like typical soy paper roll. Ordered Beef Don, even though I knew I was probably taking some home. (I wanted to try several things, but I only have one stomach.) Entrée was huge and I didn't even bother eating tempura veggies; took home & ate later. Very good beef, sauce, rice. Opening "green salad" was just that - green lettuce, nothing else, plus ginger dressing. I've noticed references to the service. We have visited Golden Ginger bistro multiple time at both lunch and dinner and have had excellent service and food every time. The location (previously a convenience store in the middle of a residential area) belies the delicious food and attentive service inside. Our favorites are the Liz and Spicy sushi rolls and their excellent Bento boxes. Their sushi chefs are fast and very good at what they do. I have had sushi at MANY places and their sushi is a fresh and delicious as any high-end sushi restaurant you would find downtown at double the price or more. There can be a wait on weekends now because word of this place is spreading fast. Once you get in, service is excellent and un-intrusive. Your drink always gets filled before it is empty but otherwise, they leave you alone to eat. They serve "golden ginger" like their namesake and low-sodium soy sauce which tastes the same but is much better for your health. read more
