If you like Mongolian style grill HuHot is definitely a good choice! This location is a bit tricky to get to but otherwise a very good location. It's clean, well maintained and the atmosphere is good. You have plenty of options when it comes to ingredients and sauces and all are extremely fresh. My one beef (see what it did there?!) with the place is that there are some slightly odd ingredients IMO. I don't pick sausage to go in my Mongolian, or black beans or corn and there are ingredients I feel would make way more sense instead such as shrimp and green beans. Otherwise this becoming one of our favorite places. If you go, sign up for their rewards with the app. You get a free appetizer and it tracks how many grills you buy (after 12 you get one free). The egg rolls aren't great (frozen and fried) the crab rangoons are decent, as well as the potsticker. The Raspberry Cheesecake wantons are AMAZING! They also have a cool soda machine. I have had the opportunity to go to other HuHot restaurants in other states, and have always been pleased. So I was very excited when one was opened up here in Layton. Unfortunately, this was a mediocre experience at best. We went before the rush on a Saturday (around 4 PM). The restaurant was less than half full. There was food and trash all over the floor. The table we were seated at had used napkins and straw papers underneath it. Apparently when a table is cleaned off for new customers, the floor is not considered. The protein and vegetable bar area was a mess. Food was scattered all across the bar. It looked like it had been completely neglected by the staff. The sauce area was in better shape. The food was OK. About what you would expect. Only one out of the six from our table went back for more. The service was terrible. Our waitress brought out everyone's salads. I had chosen the soup option. About 25 minutes after the rest of the party received their salads, I found our waitress and asked if she would be bringing my soup. Instead of apologizing for a mistake, she informed me she was busy and taking care of all the tables. We had to practically beg for a drink refill. The waitress rarely came by. It's too bad - I have had great experiences at other locations. If they don't make changes, I will be surprised if they make it long term. We're so happy to see a HuHot in Layton. The selection of meat, veg and sauces far exceeds the only other place similar around. I abso love anything with peanut sauce so I pick it nearly every time. The spice levels go from not spicy to burn your hair off. The selection can be overwhelming but if you search HuHot recipes or download their app and click recipes you'll find many ideas on what makes a good mix of flavors. read more

There are a lot of choices in meats (also Tofu, and imitation Crab), vegetables, and sauces. Our server gave great advice "it's unlimited, so you don't want to get a lot the first trip." Hu Hot. Went there last week and the 3 of us were very underwhelmed. Sorry no pics. We ordered 2 hot and sour soups and one Asian salad to accompany or plates. The food selection was abundant and well stocked but that's were or joy ended. The bowls they provide you are smaller than other Mongolian BBQ'S we have been to. Once we built our desired dish had to stand in line and wait our turn to hand of our meal to the cook to be placed on the grill top. As we stood in the line we had to try not to fall from the slippery juices, that are all over the floor, that have poured or dripped from the bowls of those waiting in line. Once we made our way to the metal counter at the cooking station, which was also covered in juices, veggies and noodles that had escaped from others bowls, we got to once again wait while our food was cooked. We finally got back to our table we s as t down with our plates to enjoy our appetizers. Our to soups were there but not the salads. The soups for us were different in flavor than what we are used to experiencing at other asian restaurants. We dug in to our dishes. Obviously the taste and quality of the dish here, as with other Mongolian joints, depends on how you yourself prepared it. Once we finished we all agreed that the portion was too small because of the small bowls we were provided. We also decided we did not want to go back through the line of disgust for another serving. The food options were mediocre. For example, they only offer eggs one day per week. Seems odd given you can just put the eggs back in the fridge at the end of the night. We got ripped off on our wine. It looked like a weak pour, so we asked our waitress. She informed us that was what they were trained to give us, but agreed it looked a little light. Or waitress came back and confirmed the pour was only 3oz. For those of you don't know, a wine pour is supposed to be 5oz. That's 40% of a ripoff by the restaurant. Very disappointed! Tried this place out for My son in-law bday dinner. I was not impressed! They took forever to seat us, the line was ridiculously slow and the so called cooks were to damn busy playing instead of cooking! They used the same spatula for every fricken bowl on the grill, I find it gross especially that I do not eat meat! The waitress sucked brought my son tea that taste like water down coffee. He ask is this tea she said yes but the ice was making the drinks taste weird!? "WTF" I ordered a bowl of rice and she took it to another table?! I get they are new at this location but omg! Th location is a little hard to get to but not bad If you know the area and the inside of the restaurant is super cramped, which makes sense, they need to fit as many tables as possible. The food is exactly the same as any other HuHot. Plenty of vegetables to chiose from and a variety of meat and TONS of choices for the sauces as per usual. The guys at the grill were very kind and quick, also got the line laughing and clapping. Go hungry to get your $15 worth. I would recommend for ages 10 and up. read more

We have been looking for a decent Mongolian BBQ in the area for quite a while. Today we went to HuHot and it exceeded our expectations. I love this kind of food because I can get exactly what I want. My husband is allergic to mushrooms and they took great care to accomodate him, cleaning the grill until it looked like new, giving him a "special" white bowl so the cooks knew he had an allergy, and even offering to get him vegetables directly from the back in case anything was contaminated. We spoke to both the waiter and the manager to tell them we will be happy to return. read more

Upon arrival, we were not greeted with a hello or hi can I help you type of meet & greet that you would expect at a restaurant. We stood there while 2 of the hosts talked amongst themselves for a few minutes. We were then led to our table & the waiter/host left without a word. After a few minutes she came back asking for our order of drinks & she mentioned the sampler appetizer which was a good choice. However, the won ton wraps were thick & not cooked thoroughly. The chefs were amazing and had peoples orders out in a timely manner. The restaurant was clean despite how much people was there, no social distancing was enforced at all! As we sat and ate our food, our waiter was nowhere to be found & only came to our table twice out of the 1.5 hours we were there. We had to flag down other servers to assist us with straws, forks & extra water. She never came by to ask how we were doing or if we needed things until handing us our check. Which by then, we wanted dessert. (The dessert picture was the whole reason why we chose to eat there in the first place). We ordered the Stuffed Cheesecake with Ice cream & requested the caramel drizzle in the side. It took about 10 minutes to get to us & she came to the table saying, "I'm sorry he just put the drizzle, here you go". A little irritated but we were over it and just wanted to eat it and leave. It is Mongolian and I love Mongolian BBQ because I can get lots of fresh stir-fried vegetables with some chicken for protein. Healthy and tasty is almost as good as it gets. I say almost because this HuHot had the extras to make it even better, a great crew and a good local beer! My server was Daniel and he was friendly and helpful, he steered me to the really good local ale, Horse Thief I believe. I didn't get the names of the grill crew but again friendly and I enjoyed talking with them while waiting to cook. I wish that I could name them for the review. It certainly helped that on this Wednesday night it was not crowed and that allowed all time to interact with us customers but my sense is that they are just the kind of people that make you feel welcome and that made for an enjoyable evening for this road warrior before heading back to my hotel. We had a great experience here. It was my daughters 8th bday and she requested we go there (we'd been there a couple of times before). My wife is gluten free and I was so impressed with our server, Paige, who not only made sure my wife received the designated gluten free bowls, so the cooks are aware it's GF, but once my wife had her food selected, one of the cooks let her know he had prepared a special section on the grill for her food (so it didn't get contaminated). Towards the end of the meal, the manager came over and sang happy birthday to our daughter and what made it really fun was he sang it backwards. This place is so good. It is so good in fact that my wife and I have a cycle with HuHot where we will eat there, I will eat so much that I am in pain and say "we are never coming back here again," we won't eat there for a while, and then we end up going back, because it is good. The price is great for what you are getting also, but my struggle with HuHot is similar to how someone would struggle with something morally. "I want it, but I don't want it." HuHot calls to me. It is like my nemesis. That eyeless, mustached man is always looming high above me on the sign like a menace somewhere, with his facial expression unchanged as if to say "you know you want it." The self-service aspect means that the food is what you make it, but the ingredients are awesome, and the sauces are awesome. It is probably good that they have the recipe cards at the start of the line, because I could see people not knowing what to put into their bowl, and then making something bland, and saying "HuHot is bad" because they didn't make a good bowl. The bowls are what you make them, and I really like how I make them. Lots of garlic, spice, and then lime juice. I think it's really good. My wife and I went there for lunch yesterday. This time around I wasn't disappointed either. They're still in the process of outgrowing their birthing pains, but this will pass. I take the Yelp "star ratings very literally - if the food is merely good, it merits 3 stars. A place gets 4 stars if the food, the service and the venue are very good. For a place to get 5 stars, it has to be exceptional, as good as it gets, the best I've ever had. As far as Mongolian Grills go, this one is as good as it gets. I think our experience here differs from that of a lot of reviewers. We have been to Mongolian grill restaurants before and my expectations for this place were high. Unfortunately I wasn't impressed. The place is clean and open but the service/employees that day must've been off because like many other people have said, we spent almost two hours there and the place was empty. Only 1/3 of the tables were in use and so the line should've been moving rather fast but it was moving at a slow pace. Our waiter seemed a bit flustered by all the tables he had to serve and somehow forgot to bring out my soup. Also, he didn't refill my drink after asking him to. He Never brought out our check either and we almost left without paying because we thought we had to pay up front. I definitely think management needs to invest in some extensive training for their employees in customer service. Now onto the food, the variety of ingredients (except they didn't have zucchini this time) and sauces is great but the quality of the cooking wasn't. I get the concept and part of the experience is that you watch as they cook your food. I get that you have a long line therefore you have to cook the food quickly to get more bowls in there but my food wasn't cooked thoroughly. Half of my food was spilled to the floor while they served others peoples food on to a plate and/or other people's food would make its way into my food while they were cooking. No, I don't want to make the long line again and wait for 20 minutes to get some more broccoli because you spilled it everywhere else. Also, someone mentioned here that you should only get one bowl at a time but no one clarifies that. I looked for a sign before I grabbed my bowls and It's free game. Plus it is impossible to fit all kinds of meat and noodles plus vegetables in a kid sized bowl. I always get two and nobody has ever said anything to me before. Drinks took forever to come out and had to ask for refills multiple times. By the end of our meal it took over a half an hour to get our bill and pay the check. I love the idea of this place, you get your own "fresh" ingredients, put them in a bowl, it is cooked right in front of you. But the execution here is rough. We went on a weekday night, there were not that many people there, and we still were there for two hours and I left wanting more. Each bowl of food we got was so small, and all of it cooked down to a lot less food. The line for the grill/ingredients took forever. Yes, you can get two bowls at a time for them to grill, but if you want to try different dishes or sauces, it takes 30‐40 minutes just to get one plate! I will say our waitress was very attentive and kind. However the buffet itself was out of things most of the time, and the floor by the grill was a swamp of sauces... people spill while waiting for their bowl to be taken. read more

This is such a sad review to have to leave, the idea of this restaurant is so good and I'm sure other franchises do it very well. The food was pretty good and quality was decent. Where the HuHot of Layton is failing is with cleanliness. There were soo many things to list but I'm going to hit you guys with the top 3. 1. Serving dishes - As the grill cooks serve up you plate they place it in a new bowl. Well the cook had to stand there and go through 4-6 bowls to find a clean one in the stack. Side note his and the other cooks uniforms weren't that clean either. 2. Food Line - This is where you collect your ingredients to make your own dish. It's done in the same style as a buffet. When you have groups of people pulling stuff out of food bins mess are going to happen and I do accept that but the food line look like it had not been touch in hours possible all day and only items were replaced when completely gone. 3. General Cleanliness of the restaurant - The most striking thing was the floors. The staff is not cleaning the floors properly, the build up of black grime in corners is almost shocking. Add in the carpets having black dirt runners in center (I think the restaurant is less then a year old) and general trash being left under "cleaned and bussed" tables, it leaves you with the feeling that the staff doesn't care and neither does the owner. read more

I have eaten here three times. I want to so much to love this place because it has so many sauces, but I have decided that it really comes down to the sauces are this restaurant's detriment. The sauces do not mix well with other sauces for the most part. I have tried recipes from the cards they provide, but they don't necessarily translate to how I feel Mongolian stir fry should be. For the price I would go elsewhere . They need vegetables like baby book choy and napa cabbage; these are my favorite vegetables to put in my stir fry, not corn. Wow, what a crazy experience! I'm going to break this review out into four categories. Service - 1 star Once we were seated we were asked to wait for our server before we started. After nearly 15 minutes we decided not to wait anymore. After we got our food they had cleared our table and we had to be reseated. We also had to flag someone down to get our check and they couldn't identify anyone who claimed to be our server. Food EVERYWHERE. Very unappetizing. The seating areas are much worse than expected but I'm surprised the health department hasn't closed the restaurant after looking at the buffet lines. Even the unused bowls have a lot of built up water and white residue from the dishwasher. It's unreal. Experience - 1 star The process isn't efficient at all. Went here yesterday for early dinner (about 4 o'clock). It was crowded as is expected when a new restaurant opens. In a nutshell: bowls are entirely too shallow and small, buffet was plentiful but extremely messy (lots of food spilled out of their containers), the floor from buffet to grill was filthy with oils, sauces, spilled food, the grill had food spilled all over and was so unappetizing to look at. The wait just to get your meal cooked by the incompetent staff at the grill is amazingly long. The cooks BS with people instead of cooking.
