The food bar was clean, fresh good selection. The not good is the sauce section and the cooking. I feel the sauce is watered down and premixed to give a flavor profile a name. They suggest at least 7 ladles to get flavor. Other grills have a separate sauce you can create your own flavor profile. I did get a good heat from the sauce but no flavor or dark color. I tried 4 times. The cooking is rushed and not cooked down in my opinion not mixed well. The vegetables are firm and not softened. Stopped by with my friends and we had no idea how it worked. It was semi okay, wasn't too sure if we could get another plate considering it was 17.99 for the meal. It was loud considering where they cook the food is outside where we eat and the server was kind. They had plenty of veggies and tofu as an option. My wife and I had a long day of shopping and were really hungry. We had been here a couple times prior and didn't have many issues. The other day is a bit off a different, and very disappointing experience. We walked in and there were 3 hosts that met us at the entrance. It was mid afternoon and wasn't busy, which we found it to be a bit of a surprise that we were told that it would be a "10-15 minute wait" even though there were many booths and tables open. So, we sat and patiently waited. About 5 minutes into our wait, a family of 5 came in and stated they had "8 people and a baby". They were told it would be a 25 minute wait. They agreed and joined us. Not 2 minutes later, the hosts began pulling 4 tables of 2 together and sat the large family. I had asked how that worked being we had been there longer and was only a party of 2. The host walked away. 3 minutes later, we were sat at a table near the bar. We began our wait at the table and had numerous wait staff walk by the table. The bartender also continued looking at us, but never said anything but would serve tables around us. The family seated ahead of us had service, drinks, and were on their way through the prep lines, and still not a word from anyone to us. No staff stopped or even made contact to say "Hey, how are you? Sorry about the wait, Your server will be right with you." No, we waited an additional 10 minutes and attempted to stop the passing wait staff to see if we could get started, and everyone continued to walk by. After 15 minutes at the table with not a word from anyone, we left and went to a different place to eat. If it were busy, understandable to a point. If they were short staffed, also understandable to a point. But there were staff just standing around taking amongst their coworkers. We got there at a good time in the evening. Not many people when we got there around 4:30 PM. Our server was very nice and attentive. You can go through the line as many times as you like. There is a lot more choices for veggies and sauces then other Mongolian places I have been too. Even when more people starting showing up the cooks were fast with the serving. We love this place! We've been here many many times, and will go back many more to come! We go here a lot after my son's sporting events with the family. Everyone can find something they like with all the different options of meats, noodles, veggies, & sauces. You get rice and/or tortillas with your meal, we usually do both. At dinner the grill meals come with your choice of soup or salad (lunch time you pay extra for this option). They have recipe cards on the table you can follow, sauce recipes on the sign over the sauce station, or you can create your own combination! You can make your meal healthy by staying away from the "oil" sauces and loading up on veggies. How does it work? It is served buffet style. You grab your bowl(s) and load it up with meat, noodles & veggies and move onto the sauce sation. The sauce station has a big selection of all different types of sauces, and they are all labeled with burn ratings so you can make your meal as mild or as spicy as you can handle. Once you finish your sauce you then proceed to the grill line (this line gets pretty long during peak dining hours - but they tend to move people through pretty quickly). After your meal is cooked, you can garnish it with a few select toppings (wasabi, peanuts, coconut flakes, sunflower seeds, etc), and take it back to your table to pair it with your rice/tortilla and ENJOY! go back as many times as your belly can handle trying new combinations or sticking with your tried and true! The service has always been good as well! Friendly staff. Drinks are refilled in a timely manner, and the servers always ask about food allergies, appetizers & desserts. For the most part they are on top off keeping the buffet options well stocked (I've only been there once where this was lacking out of the many times we've been here). They are also very careful when it comes to food allergies. Why not 5 stars? the layout between the sauce station and the grill line is too crowded. They need to space it out a little bit more and have a better space to transition from sauce to grill. I feel like having to justify a 3 star experience is kinda like torture. It lacks the fire you feel for throwing two or one stars around like a ninja, knowing its impact will stab something. Three stars rewards nothing. And I have to think hard about a meal that was unremarkable, but didn't violate any principles I hold dear in obtaining a meal. It was late, after 7pm, and I was driving cross country w/ my dad. Its the times of COVID still so stuff is closed, and we just want to sit down and eat for a second. Get to the Ho Hut and its only open for another hour. Fine. At least they were open. Server was nice and attentive and explained the rules. Go up and the ingredients are depleted. Not gone, just depleted. There are so many reasons why this is OK, at the end of a day. But my heart was sad that I had to scrape the last of the meats from the bottom of the bin, knowing that they werent going to restock it. The place wasn't empty, it just felt like a dine in fast food experience. The workers were talking loudly to each other. I'll invite anyone to question my biases and include they were talking loudly in spanish, but to paint the picture: these three fools manning the hot surface and across to the buffet kept uttering "No trabajo, miercoles", to which I would have figured they were excited after the first, second or third time it was uttered. I'd be happy about not working on Wednesday also, all right fine. But no they kept it up like an inside joke at outside volume for a minute or two while me and my dad are grubby and tired picking through the buffet, having to make executive decisions on how many calories we want in our sauce, or if what we were making was the culinary equivalent of soda pop suicide. My dad liked the tip gong, and the chant they have to holler after the tip gong is rung. The waiter got my beers out timely. We didn't think nothing of it, we all thought we just ate too much or too fast (which was not the case we weren't full) our stomachs continued to hurt all night, I figured me, my bf, and my sister sleep it off, the next morning we all were terribly sick. I myself was nauseous and in the bathroom all night and morning. I got no sleep from it, and it's lasting longer than usual. My son and I went to this restaurant due to his swim team dinner after a State meet. Because the restaurant was in the mall, I was not expecting too much out of it and thought it would like an over priced Chinese-Americana-Mongonian fusion affair. Furthermore I thought it would not be very kids friendly kind of a place especially we had the swim team with us (a party of 22). Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised how well it received by everyone as well as my picky Asian taste buds. There were plenty of choices as well as different spices/sauces to satisfy everyone including 'non-human' teenagers. I was especially/pleasantly surprised my son loved the Mongolian General Tso's fish combination... No, I cannot make that up. My dish - green fish curry with hot chili sauce and coconut flakes and crush peanuts... YUM! Here is cool thing - you can go up there as many times you want and try different dishes and spices/sauces. Yes, fish curry is an actual dish in my culture. But that is usually a soup style, not Mongolian style. Needless to say I think I have found my new favorite restaurant. I was excited when HuHot started advertising it was coming to town. At dinner, you start with either soup or salad. I've not tried the soup yet because the Asian Salad is so tasty. Mixed greens with some crunchies and mandarin orange and an Asian dressing. Very tasty. The potsticker appetizer is very good. It can be alot, though, if you get an appetizer, so either go just for appetizers or get an appetizer on an occasion that you're very hungry. There are three parts to creating your entree. First the meat station. Several types of meat and fish are available. Then there are three types of noodles you can add. Next up is the veggie bar with a nice assortment of fresh veggies to add to your meat. Finally, there's the sauce bar. They do have some recipes for house sauces or you can mix your own. I like to add the garlic sauce (making sure I get a good scoop of the minced garlic, as well. And I add lime juice, as well. The rest of the sauce I create usually varies, but the garlic and lime are my staples. Once you've filled up your bowl, you bring it over to the grill. The cooks here are very friendly and it is really fun to watch them work. You also have your choice of steamed rice or wraps (tortilla style). I always get the rice but the wraps are a neat idea. If you have room after all of that, you can have dessert. There are several selections. I'm always too full but I am thinking I'll go some time with the aim of having an appetizer and a dessert. A very good addition to the food selections here in Rochester. I usually go once or twice a month. As Mongolian grills go, HuHot is small but mighty. There's just the right amount of selection for sauces, meat, veggies and noodles. The best part was at the end of the meal you don't smell like BBQ grill smoke! Amazing! We came for dinner. For the price of $12.99, including a salad/soup to start, you really can't go wrong. The Asian salad was especially appetizing. It included a dressing, veggies, toasted noodles and canned mandarin oranges. The toasted noodles is genius, since it substitutes for croutons perfectly. For first timers overwhelmed by the choice, I highly recommend following a few of their suggested recipes. The recipe contest is really quite smart, because it makes sure people experiment and come back often. Pro tip: Don't pile on ingredients in the order they've set out. Choose the meats you want, add 3/4 of the sauces, select the veggies/noodles, then add the remaining 1/4 sauces. This way the meat marinades while you decide whether adding pineapples will wreck your recipe and becomes tastier. I also love the Bangkok Curry sauce in combination with their pad thai noodles, which are pre-soaked and come out delicious. One of the grill chefs also put together sausage and eggs, which I thought was a neat spin on breakfast items. I would have really given a 4.5 star, but unfortunately the sauces don't come out as savoury as I've experienced at other Mongolian grill places. The spicy sauces are especially watered down. This is one of my favorite places in town. Love the idea of making several different plates of my own using such a variety of sauces and flavors, all in one dine in! I usually use a lot of vegetables but never forget the meat. It's great that they do offer many vegetables to choose from, covering a spectrum of cooking schools and backgrounds. Great variety for many options for an overall dish. Meat wise, they've got the basics as well as some unique options too. I really appreciate the dire tion s for the sauces they have in place. I don't usually go for the realky spicy stuff, but do include some of them just for a great taste. They are often busy in evenings, but not at all during lunch time. So my pals and I mostly visit during lunch time. Service is OK. Price is good. Environment is OK, but very smelly of the spices since the grill is huge and in the middle of the hall. You grab a bowl and line up, pick your noodle, protein, veggies, sauce. Then you line up and wait for a bunch of people to cook it on a giant round flat top grill. It was interesting to see the cooks could keep it up with what belonged to who. But...it's kind of gross to watch too. You would have to see it. We each had one plate...all we wanted to eat and got a big ol' "all you can eat" check. Being "all you can eat", the quality was not great. Being buffet style and all cooked on one surface, it didn't feel clean. If someone has food allergies, NOT the place to eat! I can see why some people like it.
