A beautiful day for a hike! Every time I do this hike it's a little different. Today the waterfall…read morewas cold and bracing and there were a lot of people hiking the falls. We started out around 8:45 AM and by the time we reached the waterfall, it was getting full of families and pairs of hikers. I recommend go early to skip the crowds. The hike itself isn't too technical and there are only a few places where you have to step up high over a rock or scramble through a stream.

Here are clear and concise directions for this hike!!…read more Main parking off Pali hwy. Entrance is easily visible. You'll enter the bamboo forest. Within the first 50 feet it will split into a Y trail, take the left path. If you go straight you'll likely end up in the bamboo section for 20-40 mins. If you do not exit the bamboo area within 10 mins, you're lost. You'll exit the bamboo area through a lifted/broken section of the fence. Walk uphill onto the paved pathway. This will open onto a wide valley. You'll pass a large bridge structure. Follow that till road till you get to the supply shed structures. Look for a small concrete stairway in the trees. Stay left mostly, and look for pink ribbons. Pass the old fenced off pool looking area. Once you hit the rock/mud path (approx 10 mins) there's a hard right turn down into the main river area. A large tree has fallen so you'll need to spot the ribbons, and climb over this tree. If you pass this fallen tree by mistake, the trail will seem oddly difficult and dense. You'll need to turn around. Walk until you see the man made rock wall with a small waterfall, and walk across this to the other side. Follow the ribbons up the path and you'll need to cross the river 3-5 more times after this. Keep looking for clear open paths. There's two ways you can continue after that point so don't worry. (One way is just more difficult) Before the waterfall there's a larger section of rocks you'll have to climb over. Main takeaways: You will have to walk across slippery rocks several times. It is muddy. It's not that difficult but can be dangerous at some parts. If you don't see a pink/orange ribbon for more than 5-10 mins at any time, you are likely lost.

Even though we have done this excursion many times, there's always a twist. On our latest adventure, we got to see five monk seals, with two of them playing in the ocean like little puppies. We had a good group and had time to do extra things on this trip. Our guide, Tupre, made it a fun and interesting tour, throwing in historical and additional wildlife information. This experience solidified our decision to book Kailua Beach Adventures on our next trip to Oahu.

It's located across the street from Kailua Beach Park. You have to cart your own kayak from the rental shop to the beach shore where you'll meet your guide. We were in a group of six and one guide. They have single and double kayaks. The guided tour provides life vests, dry bags, snorkels, water bottles, and lunch. The trip to the island took us approximately 1.5 hours maybe a bit more to Kayak the 2.3 miles due to strong head winds. It was faster on the return trip. We even had time to stop on flat island. This is one of my favorite activities to do while on Oahu. I love the scenic views heading to the "Mokes" and I love the views looking toward Oahu while out on the water. It's such a magical kayaking adventure. The island is a bird sanctuary and if you go at the right time you'll see nesting birds and if you are lucky, you'll see the endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal. We saw three (maybe four, not sure if one was the same one that swam to a different spot) on Moku Nui and one on Popoi'a Island sandbar. If you are adventurous and have the stamina and strength to kayak, I highly recommend this tour for you! Our guide Two-pre was the best!!! He told us that the tour we were on was his 400th!!

It's an entirely man made island where there are activities like paddle board, group canoe, kayaking, volleyball, and lounging. The only downside with the water activities here is that is limited freedom on where one can go. Is say about 75 yards on each direction. Trust me on this, YOU WILL GET CALLED BACK. However it is for your safety. All of these come with a fee of course, but since work and I were there for a wedding, it was all paid for. There is no food provided, however you CAN BRING YOUR OWN FOOD AND DRINKS, provided there is no glass brought in. It's a great place for a little get away, from your little get away and I recommend to do this while on the island.

Bring plenty of water and snacks. It's all steep downhill or uphill once you take the falls section of the trail. The falls were not running much at the time of my hike , however the pools were cool and deep. The area is lush and beautiful with some tropical plants in bloom. There is a rope that is knotted to hold onto to help you walk down the rock face down to the first pool and rope swings into the next pool below it. The journey back up got your blood pumping. It started pouring rain, hard. Getting to the waterfall took longer than the 3/4 mile sign would lead you to believe. Don't take kids. Wear proper hiking shoes and know that they will get destroyed in mud. I cannot believe people were trying this in flip flops, crocs, and vans. That's a near death experience in the rain and mud that'll get you or your descendants a Netflix special

If you've never been fishing before, this is a great experience because you're pretty much guaranteed to catch something! How it works: There are 2 prices, one for every person fishing / for each pole and another price for those just coming along for the fun! You're given a fishing pole and bait + a bucket. Once the fish has been caught and put into your bucket, its yours! The cool thing about this place is they will cook up the fish that you catch! They have different cooking styles and sauces. I would bring a chair, maybe even a small tent for shade, gloves because you do need to unhook them, and water to drink and to wash off your hands in between catches. The ponds are full of tilapia, and within an hour one person can probably catch 10 fish!

Fish were not biting much and what we did catch were small. The lady working that day said that the fish tend to bite more on warmer days when it's not raining -- she said that she thinks they hide out at the bottom when it rains. We ended up keeping 2 of our decent sized catches (still pretty small). However, I must say, the fish was fried to perfection!! We chose to have our fish fried whole, it was served with a scoop of rice, a refreshing broccoli-slaw salad and a cluster of plump, juicy grapes. A surprisingly tasty lunch to end our rainy fishing adventure. *Bonus tip: wear shoes/clothes you don't mind getting dirty. The red dirt can stain your shoes and does not wash off clothing very easily. We brought old shoes (trashed when we left) and changed out before we got in the car.

I will say that there are not that many shaded areas, but me and my friends were lucky enough to find shade underneath one of few trees that were along the beach. We brought our own lawn chairs from our hotel. But plenty of people brought their own umbrellas, tents, and other beach fun items. Weather was great, but there were rip current warning signs everywhere, so it was good to know that they want visitors to the beach to be cautious. I would recommend this beach for a visit.
