The group chose St. Vincent de Paul, patron saint of the poor for their name and under the guidance of Sister Rosalie Rendu, they increased the number of people they were able to help. Volunteers of the organization are called Vincentians. The charity spread from France to Europe. In 1845 they established in the United States in St. Louis, Missouri. The organization is now world wide in 150 countries with 750,000 members. I have visited a number of Vincent De Paul Society thrift stores throughout Florida and they have always been a great place to find a bargain. In this building there is the thrift store and an area for client services. Proceeds from this thrift store is used to provide a food pantry, clothing, rent, and utilities to those in need. They are working towards building a neighbor aid center on land that was purchased adjacent to the thrift store. Their goal is to raise $1,000,000 for construction costs and for the furnishings needed in the building. They are seeking donations of any amount to make this dream happen. This thrift store has a nice selection of small appliances, clothing, accessories, art, books, and household goods on the main floor. There is also a downstairs with books and larger pieces of furniture. On the day I visited everything over $1 was 50 percent off so prices were quite good. Higher end items like designer name clothes are sold on their Ebay store page. This is a wonderful charity that is working towards helping even more people in this community. This thrift store the people who work here are not as friendly as the other church thrift store by the tracks, I guess the different denominations make a difference. I rarely go here that much as they do have high prices and they have separate stores and spaces to shop in, it is not my favorite thrift to go to. I love a church thrift store and this one is especially welcoming thanks to muralist Carol Makris of Artistic Brushworks. Members of First Presbyterian Church of Sebastian found her on the internet and hired her to spruce up the exterior of their thrift store. Their only requirements was for it to be colorful and that it would make people smile. Carol came up with a cheerful seaside cottage concept. It is so fun to look for all of he details in the mural like a calico cat staring longingly at a cardinal in a birdbath, a monarch butterfly, and beautiful flowers. Trove of Blessings Cottage was dedicated on July 18th, 2024 as part of the Mural Trail Project. The thrift store consists of the main buildings and two outside sheds with further discounted items. They sell clothes, accessories, shoes, art, housewares, books, and collectibles. Clothing had additional markdowns and the other prices were inexpensive. This thrift store benefits H.A.L.O No Kill Recue which operates a shelter. H.A.L.O. stands for…read morehelping animals live and overcome. In 2006 they became the first no kill shelter in Indian River County and since that time over 20,000 pets have been saved. In 2015 H.A.L.O. opened H.A.L.O.'s Rescued Treasures with all proceeds going to help the animals. This thrift store has several rooms of gently used home goods, toys, clothing, accessories, holiday decorations, linens, pet supplies, and more. Everything I saw was well priced and additional sales during my visit offered an extra 20 percent off handbags and wallets and 20 percent of pants, shorts, and skirts. A sign requesting people to remain dressed in the clothing room cracked me up. Know you are on camera so keep those clothes on. It is not a dressing room. They claimed it was new merchandise. They had added new sunscreen with color blue but did not do their usual thing of changing tags on stuff they don't want to go on sale. Any reputable business will honor prices on which they made a mistake. This store uses deceptive practices. They charge a lot for used shoes. Their prices are as high or higher than retail stores selling new merchandise that they don't get donated to them for free.

The Women's Refuge was founded in 1997 by Donna Lee Robart and husband Ted for people who are experiencing emotional, mental, and spiritual problems. Proceeds from this thrift store go to supporting programs at the Women's Refuge which includes a Christian residential program for women, support groups, and a biblical counseling center for men, women, and families. The Women's Refuge Resale Shop sells a wide range of clothing, accessories, household items, furniture, art, home decor, and more. Everything was neatly organized and clearly marked with a price. Interestingly the prices were compared with what similar items are selling for Poshmark and Chairish. First time I have seen that. On the day I visited they were having a lot of additional sales including 60 percent off dresses and pants. For even more thrifting fun, the Tambourine Resale Store is next door and there is another Women's Refuge store across the parking lot selling furniture and antiques. The Women's Refuge does a lot of good in the community so you can feel good about volunteering, shopping, and donating here.
