The Tambourine Resale Shops sells donated nearly new and gently used items that include housewares, women's and men's clothing, accessories, furniture, jewelry, art and antiques. Over 40 volunteers staff the store. This year they are celebrating their 45th anniversary. The store is very neat and attractively organized. The clothing area is set up like a boutique with brand name clothes, some luxury. There is a dressing room area where you can try on. Prices seemed reasonable but always do your research. For even more thrifting fun, the Women's Refuge thrift store is right next door. Proceeds from this shop have been helping the community for over 40 years so you can feel good about donating to and shopping at the Tambourine Resale Shop.

The Women's Refuge was founded in 1997 by Donna Lee Robart and husband Ted for people who are experiencing emotional, mental, and spiritual problems. Proceeds from this thrift store go to supporting programs at the Women's Refuge which includes a Christian residential program for women, support groups, and a biblical counseling center for men, women, and families. The Women's Refuge Resale Shop sells a wide range of clothing, accessories, household items, furniture, art, home decor, and more. Everything was neatly organized and clearly marked with a price. Interestingly the prices were compared with what similar items are selling for Poshmark and Chairish. First time I have seen that. On the day I visited they were having a lot of additional sales including 60 percent off dresses and pants. For even more thrifting fun, the Tambourine Resale Store is next door and there is another Women's Refuge store across the parking lot selling furniture and antiques. The Women's Refuge does a lot of good in the community so you can feel good about volunteering, shopping, and donating here.

Volunteers of the organization are called Vincentians. The charity spread from France to Europe. In 1845 they established in the United States in St. Louis, Missouri. The organization is now world wide in 150 countries with 750,000 members. I have visited a number of Vincent De Paul Society thrift stores throughout Florida and they have always been a great place to find a bargain. In this building there is the thrift store and an area for client services. Proceeds from this thrift store is used to provide a food pantry, clothing, rent, and utilities to those in need. They are working towards building a neighbor aid center on land that was purchased adjacent to the thrift store. Their goal is to raise $1,000,000 for construction costs and for the furnishings needed in the building. They are seeking donations of any amount to make this dream happen. This thrift store has a nice selection of small appliances, clothing, accessories, art, books, and household goods on the main floor. There is also a downstairs with books and larger pieces of furniture. On the day I visited everything over $1 was 50 percent off so prices were quite good. Higher end items like designer name clothes are sold on their Ebay store page. This is a wonderful charity that is working towards helping even more people in this community. The Salvation Army has churches throughout the world called Salvation Army corps but they are probably best known for their thrift stores. When items are purchased at the stores, the money supports the Salvation Army's emergency relief efforts and programs. All sales directly fund local programs and services in Indian River County. Unlike a lot of businesses, the Salvation Army will hire ex felons. Some of the shops support the Adult Rehabilitation Centers which help people combat addiction. When you donate to or buy from the Salvation Army you are helping to support many worthwhile programs. I discovered this Salvation Army store while driving down Oslo Road in Vero Beach. It is located next to a Goodwill for even more thrifting fun. This was one of the nicer Salvation Army thrift stores that I have been in. Everything was clean and neatly organized. Inventory included like new home goods, art, furniture, records, linens, books, toys, and a large selection of clothing and accessories. Thrifting helps people save money while keeping items out of the landfill. The Salvation Army welcomes donations of clean and gently used clothing, furniture, automobiles, household goods, and appliances. Whether you're on the hunt for vintage treasures, everyday essentials, or just browsing for a good deal, there's something for everyone at the Salvation Army Family Thrift Store in Vero Beach.

Things were organized, they had lots of nice clothing, and the prices were really good. I rarely find clothes at thrift shops, but I found 4 items, 3 of them that looked almost brand new. They were all priced around $6. They also had some furniture at excellent prices. The place was clean and didn't have that smell that some thrift stores have. The store employees were friendly. The only thing that can be improved was that I had to wait about 15 minutes to get into a dressing room. There were 4 and one was "out of order." I don't live around here, but if I was in the area again, I would love to go back again.

The staff is extremely friendly and will negotiate on prices if there is something you want, but maybe feel is priced just a little too high or out of your price range. Just ask if they can work with you on price. Clothing is tagged with plastic strips on the collar that indicates pricing. Purple tags are $2 and Red tags are $5. They do have a dressing room for try on. You can find some nice clothes in the mix, however they are not sorted by size, and you have to make a commitment to browse through it all. There is more women's clothing than men's or children's. Clothing is located in the front part of the store along with purses, tote bags, a small selection of shoes, jewelry, DVD's/CD's, health care items, and some collectables and vintage items under glass. In the back portion of the store are children's toys, games, & books, pet supplies, figurines, glassware, dishes, household & kitchen items, arts/crafts items, general books, artwork, tools and hardware, small kitchen appliances, holiday items, and limited travel accessories. There is little to no furniture at this store. You may find small end tables or lamps, but no large furniture items. They have recently been working to re-organize their shelves and displays to put more similar items together. Makes browsing much easier. When you arrive, they have a chalk sign posted inside the door entrance that indicates any specials and discounts they are offering. Like any thrift store, it's "hit or miss" depending on what you are shopping for, but there are definitely treasures to be found!
