The Women's Refuge was founded in 1997 by Donna Lee Robart and husband Ted for people who are experiencing emotional, mental, and spiritual problems. Proceeds from this thrift store go to supporting programs at the Women's Refuge which includes a Christian residential program for women, support groups, and a biblical counseling center for men, women, and families. The Women's Refuge Resale Shop sells a wide range of clothing, accessories, household items, furniture, art, home decor, and more. Everything was neatly organized and clearly marked with a price. Interestingly the prices were compared with what similar items are selling for Poshmark and Chairish. First time I have seen that. On the day I visited they were having a lot of additional sales including 60 percent off dresses and pants. For even more thrifting fun, the Tambourine Resale Store is next door and there is another Women's Refuge store across the parking lot selling furniture and antiques. The Women's Refuge does a lot of good in the community so you can feel good about volunteering, shopping, and donating here.

He came up with the idea for a charity in response to a fellow classmates question, what is your church doing for the poor? The group chose St. Vincent de Paul, patron saint of the poor for their name and under the guidance of Sister Rosalie Rendu, they increased the number of people they were able to help. Volunteers of the organization are called Vincentians. The charity spread from France to Europe. In 1845 they established in the United States in St. Louis, Missouri. The organization is now world wide in 150 countries with 750,000 members. I have visited a number of Vincent De Paul Society thrift stores throughout Florida and they have always been a great place to find a bargain. In this building there is the thrift store and an area for client services. Proceeds from this thrift store is used to provide a food pantry, clothing, rent, and utilities to those in need. They are working towards building a neighbor aid center on land that was purchased adjacent to the thrift store. Their goal is to raise $1,000,000 for construction costs and for the furnishings needed in the building. They are seeking donations of any amount to make this dream happen. This thrift store has a nice selection of small appliances, clothing, accessories, art, books, and household goods on the main floor. There is also a downstairs with books and larger pieces of furniture. On the day I visited everything over $1 was 50 percent off so prices were quite good. Higher end items like designer name clothes are sold on their Ebay store page. This is a wonderful charity that is working towards helping even more people in this community. Despite the disapproval of the church, Booth took his ministry to the poor, homeless, hungry, and destitute. In 1878 while reading the annual report for the Christian Mission he noticed the phrase "The Christian Mission is a volunteer army." William Booth crossed out volunteer army and replaced it with salvation army. From then on converts became soldiers of Christ or Salvationists. The groups message spread quickly and today they serve over 100 countries. The Salvation Army has churches throughout the world called Salvation Army corps but they are probably best known for their thrift stores. When items are purchased at the stores, the money supports the Salvation Army's emergency relief efforts and programs. All sales directly fund local programs and services in Indian River County. Unlike a lot of businesses, the Salvation Army will hire ex felons. Some of the shops support the Adult Rehabilitation Centers which help people combat addiction. When you donate to or buy from the Salvation Army you are helping to support many worthwhile programs. I discovered this Salvation Army store while driving down Oslo Road in Vero Beach. It is located next to a Goodwill for even more thrifting fun. This was one of the nicer Salvation Army thrift stores that I have been in. Everything was clean and neatly organized. Inventory included like new home goods, art, furniture, records, linens, books, toys, and a large selection of clothing and accessories. Thrifting helps people save money while keeping items out of the landfill. The Salvation Army welcomes donations of clean and gently used clothing, furniture, automobiles, household goods, and appliances. Whether you're on the hunt for vintage treasures, everyday essentials, or just browsing for a good deal, there's something for everyone at the Salvation Army Family Thrift Store in Vero Beach.

Things were organized, they had lots of nice clothing, and the prices were really good. I rarely find clothes at thrift shops, but I found 4 items, 3 of them that looked almost brand new. They were all priced around $6. They also had some furniture at excellent prices. The place was clean and didn't have that smell that some thrift stores have. The store employees were friendly. The only thing that can be improved was that I had to wait about 15 minutes to get into a dressing room. There were 4 and one was "out of order." I don't live around here, but if I was in the area again, I would love to go back again.

As a longtime volunteer, I'm saddened by the negative changes I've witnessed at Indian River…read moreHabitat Restore. The atmosphere has changed dramatically, and not for the better. From my perspective, the new manager has been reluctant to leave the office and spend time on the sales floor or learn how the store operates before making significant changes. One of the biggest surprises was the decision to stop accepting certain donated items that we had always been encouraged to take. Trevor, the CEO, had consistently told us to accept everything we could, so it was confusing to see that approach change so suddenly without any explanation. The morale in the store also seems much lower than it used to be. Many employees appear frustrated, and the positive, team-oriented environment that once made volunteering enjoyable has been affected. I especially feel for Robin, who was an outstanding manager. She worked hard, supported both volunteers and staff, and helped create a welcoming environment. It was disappointing to see her leave, and I don't feel she--or the rest of the staff--received the respect they deserved.

Sold me a washer and dryer with a guarantee that there was store credit if something was wrong…read morewith them..the washer leaked really bad I called right away they told me to bring it back up for a store credit. Got there the same lady told me the owner wasn't there and I would have to come back tomorrow to talk to him.. I had already unloaded the washer so the lady in the back called him and he told her no refunds on appliances and no store credit.. so he got 150 and the washer back.. hope they don't try to sell to some one else..
