There are some organizations that are so wonderful, it just makes the world seem a little brighter. Their staff (all volunteers!) are all so sweet and truly care about what they do. and... of course... the kitties are all SO SWEET! They make the process of adopting a new little friend very easy. I love their "Cat Connection" room at San Mateo Pet Feed (El Camino, Redwood City) where all the kitties have an entire room to play and run and be happy kitties while they are waiting to be adopted. I adopted two amazing kittens about a month ago via Humanimals. I have adopted through the Humane Society before, but I like Humanimals better, because I was able to find out the history of my kittens. My kittens were placed with a foster family until they were able to be adopted and so they were well socialized. Also, they came microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, spayed, etc. . . Plus they got a free vet visit included with the adoption. If you are looking for a cat or kitten, this is a great place to consider, but no matter what---ADOPT!!!!! There are too many unwanted animals in this world and buying from a pet store or personal breeder just promotes the breeding of animals, which is not needed considering that there are already enough out there as it is without intentional breeding. My kittens are totally cool. Lila plays fetch and actually drops the toy that she is fetching right into my hand! Lily is a total lap cat and can't give me and my kids and husband enough love. I am so happy that I took the two sisters together. One is great, but two are double the fun :-) LOVE them!!!!!!! ADOPT!!!!! read more

I adopted my lifelong companions from the Humanimal Connection almost 2 years ago and still recommend them to anyone looking to adopt. The entire adoption process was thorough but quick, and within a day of applying our family had 2 new members. Roscoe, who was taken from a hoarder (and can never seem to get enough love) and Simon, who must have been the tiniest feral kitteh in Fremont (and needed extra handling and sensitivity). Note: I saw in another review, there was pressure to adopt a pair, and I had a very different experience. At first I was only going to take one, but then fell in love with the cagemate, and decided to take both. I dealt with Susan, who continued to answer my questions by email and phone for some time after the adoption (this was my first cat experience). We adopted little Piper two weeks ago, and we could not be happier with her and the folks at Humanimal Connection. Even though she mostly grew up in a cage, Susan and the volunteers at HC (Anthony, Joni and Jon) had socialized her so well that she had no trouble adapting to a home (she is especially fascinated by nature shows on television). The adoption process was easy and quick- we wanted to be sure it was the right match, so we visited a few times, but the HC team was very accommodating. They clearly care a lot about the animals and want to make sure the adoption will be a success for the people and the animals. My daughter and I were passing a kitten adoption fair at a pet store in Redwood City and went in to have a quick look. Two hours later we came away with an adorable kitty who is now called Bentley. It was obvious that all the kitties get the best of care and Bentley was extremely well adjusted. We have two dogs and an older cat and he fit right in. He's very playful and loves to hang out with the family. He knows how to use his litter box and is no trouble at all. We had a very enjoyable experience with Humanimal Connection. The volunteers were very friendly and flexible and obviously work very hard to ensure the well-being of the kitties in their care. read more

I just recently got my kitty from Humanimal Connection and had a really positive experience! The staff was very knowledgeable in regards to each and every kitty and answered all my questions, concerns, and comments. They even helped me shop for my new friend. I ended up walking out that very night with kitty in tow. He adjust to his new environment flawlessly, and after a trip to the vet was above average in the health department. I am very pleased with my adoption! The only thing I would point out is that I had to be aggressive in obtaining initial contact in trying to meet the kitties. Between emails, and phone calls I tried 4 or 5 times before success! After that, I could not have asked for better communication in setting up a meet and greet with all the kitties! If you are adopting a new pet, I highly recommend Humanimal Connection as your first and last stop. The animals are well cared for and the staff really holds compassion for each and every animal. BEWARE!! This place is not trying find homes for kittens. Susan is controlling and borderline insane. She has 10-15 cats at the Woodside Petco and is hording the kittens like she gave birth to them herself. When I contacted her she asked me which kitten I was interested in and seemed really nice and excited to pick up my application that I filled out. After she received my application she didn't call me, I had to send her two text messages to see what was the next step in the adoption process. She then calls me and says to me that she was hesitant to call me back because she only adopts kittens in pairs and since I have two dogs and a guinea pig she felt that my house is two crowded for two kittens(which I agree) However, I feel she should have stated this when she texted me and asked which kitten I was interested in. I also had included a picture of the kitten I wanted to adopt. Susan mentioned nothing in those text messages about her adoption requirements of a two kitten minimum. I feel that she denied us for the wrong reasons. She didn't even take the time to meet with us. Instead of finding good homes she would rather keep all those kittens locked up in cages where they are isolated from loving families. Petco should not allow her to house these kittens and cats there. If she wants to have that type of adoption agency she should just run it out of her home and sell them to the highest bidder like those under grown child adoption agencies. SOOOOO upset my family really fell in love with this kitten and she lost out on a happy, loving, and FULL home! read more

This place will only let you adopt if you are getting two cats that are only indoors. Rude and controlling is all I have to say.

Just make sure you do not try to adopt here if you want your cats to be able to go outdoors! I have had cats, dogs and horses all my life and I personally believe they love the outdoors and are happier and healthier than locked up in a house! I really wanted to adopt a female young cat and was turned down. I hope she finds a good home who will love her and give her as much love and care as we would have! I'm a sometimes-volunteer for Humanimal. I came across their kitty display at Petco/Redwood City and decided to offer some help. I'm blown away by the effort and dedication of the full-timers, and the flock of regular volunteers. Those kitty cages are better kept than my own kitchen! - scrubbed clean twice daily, food freshened, cats and kittens loved up and looked over. What continually amazes me is the group's resolve to put the cats' welfare first. Given the sheer number of feral and abandoned critters, I'm sure it's tempting to cut corners, maybe adopt out to less-than-perfect homes - y'know, look the other way a little bit. Doesn't happen. Kittens either go in pairs, or go singly to homes where another young cat awaits. The new owner(s) must fully commit to providing a healthy, supportive environment for the new family addition, and get a full education on what that means. I adopted my three before I crossed paths with Humanimal - and three's enough! But when I'm ready to adopt again, I'm going through Humanimal. I have complete confidence in - and admiration for! - this excellent group. Oh, and high-fives to Petco and San Mateo Feed and Pet for hosting all these kitties! read more

We adopted two sister kitties via Humanimal Connection at San Mateo Feed and Supply. This is a wonderful, awesome organization that makes the process of adopting very easy. We LOVE our new family members, Leyla and Zoe. These two precious kitties were rescued from a Los Banos animal shelter by Humanimal Connection and were scheduled to be euthanized. When those two precious faces stare up at me, I get chills thinking about close their little lives were to being ended. Truly, we are blessed to have our new kitties and it only took them 2 hours to completely adjust to life at our house. read more

This group gives such great care to the cats that they come across. Each cat gets one on one time and socialization so that they can be the perfect kitty for you. They are NO KILL and NO PROFIT and don't just hand off cats that have issues or are shy and thus harder to adopt. They work with you even after you adopt. just checking in after adopting a 2nd kitty from Humanimal. Lance is a healthy and playful little guy who is getting along well with Bok Choy, adopted back in January. Even though he was probably away from his mom very early in life, he is quite cuddly and sweet, owing to the excellent foster care from Humanimal volunteers. The humanimal connection is nice in theory, but when working with them you will see many flaws. The cats are bundled in pairs at times making it impossible to get a cat that you want. The kittens are very cute but often kept to keep people coming to see the cats. Suzanne is very picky when letting someone adopt, it's almost like she rather not find the cats homes. She will make you feel like you love a crazy life and aren't a good fit for any of the cats. They also ask what cats your interested in but it won't matter because she has already decided which cats she's willing to have adopted. It's a great cause the way they are saving cats but it's almost not worth it when you have to work with difficult and judgmental people. I would recommend checking shelters before trying them because it's extremely difficult to work with them. read more

Our good friend found an abandoned kitten (just a day or two old) in Menlo Park that needed to be bottle fed. He couldn't keep it, so we agreed to figure out what we were doing. We happened to be driving by one of Humanimal's Kitten Adoption Fairs in RWC and went in to ask for advice. On the spot, the volunteers who were experienced at fostering helped us to understand exactly what needed to happen, arranged to get vet care that afternoon on a Saturday. One of the volunteers even ended up fostering the abandoned kitten herself, sent us pictures to know she was alive and well and gave this cat a second chance, who was later adopted by a wonderful family. Six months later when we were ready to add two feline friends to our family, Humanimal helped us make a great connection. The animals were clearly loved and well cared for... and the volunteers are an amazingly dedicated group. Highly recommend based on our experience. read more
