Great location, remote but so close to town and only minutes from San Angelo. Right next door to a winery and only minutes from a convenience store if you need anything. Hostess was very nice and had the place ready and open for our arrival. She had the house stocked with snacks and breakfast food, coffee and bottled water. Listening to the river roll, birds chirping, and watching the fish rolling and ducks swimming in the water was only a few of the memories I took away from this gorgeous place. I videoed a buck and a doe Sunday morning. Don't miss out on visiting this place! It is a hidden treasure.

We stayed in the French room and it was really nice. Comfortable bed, functional kitchenette, and a nice porch to sit and relax. The units are not huge so really for a couple only. Several friends were in 3 other rooms and all indicated they were happy with the place. If you want to be in downtown Christoval at a reasonable price, I can't imagine any of the other properties are better. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is to be reasonable with expectations. There were spiderwebs everywhere, black dirt in the freezer, mold in the coffee pot and dirty dishes left in the dishwasher. We literally had to wash every dish in the kitchen before we were able to use them. Multiple burners on the stove didn't work, there were several safety hazards in the flooring with cracks inside and outside as well as the upstairs glass sliding-doors and the lava hot water in the kitchen. They were also very picky about where we parked because we were going to "hurt the tree roots." Also, the owner rarely answers phone calls and if you leave a voicemail she will respond with a text. I had to request a few things to be restocked such as dish soap and toilet paper. She brought it over quickly with a few rolls of toilet paper and dish soap in a hand dispenser that looked like she pulled from her own kitchen. Definitely won't be returning to the Boathouse. It is worth the 20 minute drive to San Angelo just to stay in a place that is clean.

They had nothing blocking the ramp or any signage saying it was closed, which it's theirs anyways. The same thing happened to another guy shorty after I started fishing the docs. I had my dog with off the leash and of course here comes Karen saying to put a leash on my dog when we were in a fenced part. She proceeded to ask me if I was fishing the docs when I clearly had a pole in my hand and I simply replied "yea". She proceeded to tell me she owned the marina and docs. I proceeded to say "ok" then turned my head back to my pole slightly shaking my head a giggling. She proceeded to say "if you want to continue to get shitty I'll have you kicked out." There are no signs ANYWHERE that say the docks are private property or no fishing or to keep pets on a leash. This is outside the rv park so those rules may be different inside. Maybe spend some money and put up signage saying it's private property so people know. They definitely need to worry less about me and fix every dock. Some wobble terribly so you can easily fall in the lake, some have boards sticking up that people could trip over. One is completely missing a board so a child could easily step through and break their leg. I planned on buying minnows and beer and go launch at a different ramp and spend more money there during the boat races. However, I'll never spend another dime at that place. GOOOD JOB KAREN!!!!

No common courtesies such as please, thank you, etc, and that goes for any of them who happens to be staffing the desk. My original plan was to arrive there in my Class C mobile home, but it died on the trip from Mississippi. I called to cancel my reservation and spoke to Chuck. He told me to come see them when I got there and they offered me a chance to stay in one of their trailers. Talk about a Godsend! During my three years there, the staff was like family to me. Harry, Chuck, John and the others. I fully expected to stay another three years and retire, but an unexpected promotion changed my plans and necessitated a PCS to California. I miss them and I think this is one of the best Military Famcamps I've been to (and I have been to a lot!). Highly recommended!

The hookups were very convenient and worked well. The wi-fi was the best and most reliable we have ever found at a campground. We were even able to use it to stream to our TV, at least during the day when it seemed like most residents were away (not so great in the evenings and weekends). The sites were very wide and we were able to park both our truck and car beside the camper without feeling crowded. I am sure they will be adding more amenities as time goes on - they added several new spaces while we were there. We would definitely stay there again if back in the area.

The rest rooms are clean and you might find just a little bit of shade next to one of the trees or the building if the sun is shining in the right direction. This rest area serves the traffic in both directions with separate lanes for each so you don't have to be too concerned about an accidental U-turn.
