We found the neighborhood to be pleasant and fairly close to various establishments. We were lacking libations and happened upon this very clean, organized and friendly corner liquor store. They had a great inventory of beer, wine and liquor domestic and imported selections. They took time to welcome us and share with us their favorite establishments within walking distance. Don't be fooled by the small foot print of the shop. They've really maximized the space and have racks on racks of drinks from wines to sake to soju to liquors. What really stood out here was the variety of selection of sojus and sake because they have brands and flavors weaves never encountered before. There's also a 1.99 sale section on cans that can be fun to pick through and try something you wouldn't normally get. Parking is on the street and free. read more

Piss-poor customer service. I would love to love Hums, as it IS the closest liqour store to our house, well within walking distance but everytime the service never fails to anger me. Hums is a great place to find any liquor you may be searching for. The owner and staff are very friendly and helpful. If you're a whiskey connoisseur like myself, just ask what they have in back and they may just have that "hard to find whiskey". You may pay a little more then you're expecting, but you won't have to deal with those annoying lotteries that most liquor store are doing nowadays with allocated whiskeys. read more

They have a lot of premium bourbons not on display. Ok store to shop for regular bottles but the premium bourbon prices are extremely high.

I love Hum's. Friendly staff and superior music playing at all times. Selection of local/eclectic beers is great.

I came in here recently to pick up some wine for a party and was pleasantly surprised to find that they carry not only soju but also makgeolli! The latter especially can be hard to find outside of Korean grocery stores, which are scarce in this area of town. My partner and I are not usually big drinkers at home, but when we do get the itch for trying a new cocktail or a local growler, Hums is where we go. It's pretty amazing how much variety they pack in a modest space--all your old favorites as well as tons of local product like Norsemen Distillery, Venn Brewing, Tattersal and so much more! Not the cheapest place in the world, and it doesn't have the best selection unless you're into specific drinks (if you love wine, beer, soju, or THC/CBD drinks, this is definitely a store you should check out!) but what they offer is all very high quality. You can sometimes find uncommon drinks here too, I was able to buy myself a bottle of wonderful absinthe for about $30 for New Year's last year, which is impressive for a tiny corner liquor store within a pleasant walking distance of my apartment. Also, the adorable tiny dogs they have behind the counter as the store "mascots" are definitely a great way to get customers to come back! I'm only rating it 4/5 because of the limited selection and the fairly high prices, but if you can get past that, Hum's is a lovely "special occasion" liquor store. read more

This is a very nice size liquor store with what seemed like a large variety of beer wines and spirits. My review is a little skewed because I went for the sole purpose of purchasing wine in a can. I've found that it's not sold at a lot of places, good ones that is. But I was happy at what I stumbled upon at Hums. There's a small fridge in the very front of the store with boxed canned and bottled wines. I couldn't decide on one so I grabbed like 7 different ones. Once I got to the register, the woman who checked me out was so kind and helpful in explaining the different types of wines and even recommended one for me to try next time. She even showed me where to find it. I was pleasantly surprised by her efforts. It's so nice going into a store and having someone show you or explain the lay of the land. Very much appreciated. My only dislike is the location. It's right next door to the red dragon and a-holes are usually loitering outside or nearby. read more

Their selection of bourbon rivals that of South Lyndale Liquors. Found a bottle of "Buffalo Trace" here! Which the employee said "we have a ton of those." So I went there tonight and I was buying some thing went up to the cash register gave my ID told him to bag it a certain way one of the cashiers and then I saw a cashier that I saw from a previous visit and I was saying hi to her Once he finishes bagging it he gives me the bag and says you're ready to go and me being in a conversation earlier I seem to have paid for it when I leave get in my car I just don't takeoff you know I wait a second or two then I see him with a security guard looking around and I waved at him then he pointed at me and says you didn't pay Yelling at me I follow him and pay worst person I have met in the App Store. read more

Very unassuming from the outside, the inside is a wonderland of wine, beer and liquor with a staff that is very knowledgeable about the products they sell. My wife and I stopped in to Hums on July 4th on the recommendation of a friend, and we weren't disappointed. Hums is a great place for rare finds and service. The owner was very friendly and knowledgeable. We were pleasantly surprised by the great selection, and came out with two very hard to find bottles, Willet's Rare Release Rye and Blanton's. Neither were priced to gouge her customers. In fact, she knew the Willet's was priced $35 below a local competitor. We'll definitely be making frequent stops at Hums. read more

When I say I'm going to the liquor store, this is where I mean. It's the liquor store. I can walk to it, and remember on the walk back that reasonable amounts of beer get heavy after a few blocks. I would call their selection "acceptable". I wouldn't go assuming they had that great new microwbrew (maybe they do, maybe they don't). They don't have Surly (boo!). However, I know they have several beers I like. I'm far less a connoisseur of liquors, so I can seem to find what I need. I've never looked at the wine selection here. There can't be much, this place is on the small side. They do seem to be concerned about knuckleheads. Besides their obstacle course entrance and exit, they have signs reminding you to not buy booze for the teens or drunks hanging around the door ("there's a reason we don't serve them"). I've never actually encountered these mythical teens or drunks. One time, as I was checking out, an older woman got in line behind me with a bottle of vodka. My mind was momentarily amused. As she stepped forward to the till, the clerk snatched the bottle away and said "No. You've had enough today." Her eyes went wide, desperation rose up within her. All she managed was a quiet "Really?" Oh, the liquor purveyor's burden. It was heartbreaking to see it in person. read more

Hum's is your friendly neighborhood liquor store. It's small, but the prices are decent and it has a pretty good selection for its size. I'd say its target market is primarily the young renters who live in the densely populated Wedge/Whittier area, and it serves these folk (myself included) very well. You'll often see who I assume is the owner hanging around, a guy with a long, thin, braided beard. He's extremely helpful when it comes to wine, and I've frequently seen him chatting with folks about the different options. One time I saw a guy step out of the store and promptly drop his bottle of wine and break it all over the sidewalk. The owner popped out the door, confirmed the bottle he had, and just gave him a replacement. Also, they're dog friendly, so feel free to bring in your furry friend as you browse the selection. read more

There's really only one reason why I like this liquor store. Convenience. On the way home from work, I can get off the 4, hit up the Wedge for groceries, run over to Hum's for my spirit of choice, all in time to jump on the following 4. So, I am not exactly sure why I keep coming here. I mean, really, they have a terrible location, a tiny parking lot, and the area in which it is located is packed with people everywhere. Despite this, if you are on foot, or bike, this is a pretty decent liquor store. They don't have much of a selection, but if you know what you are looking for, and just stopping in to pick something up quick, then I would recommend this place. It usually can be pretty crowded too, especially towards the end of the night. With the two lines, sometimes, too, it takes forever to check out. If you haven't been here before (or haven't been since the renovation) Hum's (2.0) is absolutely worth checking out! I live nearby, and while the old Hum's was convenient in a pinch, I used to go out of my way to my favored liquor stores in South Minneapolis or Fridley when I was after something more specific. IMO I was kind of a fan of the corner-store, dive aesthetic of Hum's 1.0, but I'm also a big fan of the chic and airy aesthetic of Hum's 2.0, and additionally find myself making far fewer out-of-the-way treks now. Since the renovation, I'd say that Hum's has gone from being a store that I'd rely on approximately 50-60% of the time to carry whatever random drink I might be on a quest to find, to being a store that has what I'm looking for 85-90% of the time. Hum's also runs tasting events fairly regularly (which they don't publicize quite enough). Beer lovers in particular should make sure Hum's is on their radar. Hum's carries a well-curated selection of local and craft beers, occasionally including some rare releases that you can only buy in limited quantities. And of course, on the topic of beer I'd be remiss if I didn't specifically mention Ray in my review! Ray is consistently cheery, and my fav dude to chat with whenever I swing by Hum's. If you have the good fortune of stopping by when he's on shift he'll be more than happy to talk with you at length about what type of beer you're looking for and come up with several different options to suit your particular tastes if you're looking to try something new. I've definitely left Hum's on multiple occasions with more beer than I had anticipated buying because of the fantastic and interesting brews Ray brought to my attention while we were chatting. read more

Bad. Just.... bad. Used to live right behind Hum's so I would go there purely out of convenience. A couple of sweltering summer visits were enough to motivate me to shop elsewhere - it gets hot inside and reeks of BO. Avoid this place in the summer at all costs, your nose will thank you. And it's just plain grungy inside.... all the time. There isn't really much of a selection at all, mostly just your substandard mass-produced beer and lower-shelf spirits. And I get it, it's not supposed to have much of a selection, but it's over-priced. It's a corner liquor store, a convenient place to go in a pinch. I feel like I'm being judged if I buy anything other than PBR or (insert beer that is currently trendy among hipsters here). And they may as well not have a parking lot because it is a disaster and unkempt-looking individuals tend to hang out all day smoking back there. It gets a star for people-watching. And for delivery. I would rather do that than ever enter the store again. I can people-watch from outside. read more
