I have been to this restaurant many many many times, and it has never once disappointed me. I love the homey ambiance inside the restaurant, along with the staff members who are always efficient and hospitable. We went around 5 pm, and I ordered the Mongolian Beef with white rice, and my partner ordered the Sesame Chicken with Fried rice. Everything we got came out quickly, and it was all hot and fresh. My top menu items at Hunan are the Mongolian Beef, the Egg Drop Soup, and the Crab Rangoons. SOOOOO GOOD. For how much food you get, I feel like it is priced well at around $18 per dinner meal. If you go for lunch, you get less food, but at a great price (in my opinion, the lunch portion is still perfect). The leftovers always reheat pretty well for 24-48 hours (in Chinese food leftover standards). Another fun fact: if you want to take out, you can call to place an order, or place a pickup order in the DoorDash app. Both are super convenient! The food wasn't bad but it wasn't good. Ordered Generals T's chicken (marked hot) and it had little flavor at all, the chicken was at least tender. Egg drop soup had an odd flavor and I wouldn't be surprised if it came out of a can. Egg roll wasn't bad but was lukewarm. The service was the only thing I would rate high and the portions were good. Every time we drive by here my husband says he wants to try it, so today we stopped in for lunch--and it will definitely not be the last time we do so! I got the sweet and sour chicken and he got the Mongolian beef. The food was solid and the egg rolls were some of my favorite I've ever had. The korean style chinese food is my favorite! The only place in town with jajangmyeon and jjiampong. Portions are so big so I recommend getting either one bowl of jajangmemyeon/ black bean noodle or jjiampong/ spicy seafood noodle soup and a tansuyook/ sweet and sour pork on the side! read more

I was searching Yelp for Korean food and stumbled across Hunan Cuisine. I was excited to see they offered some Chinese-Korean options - so good!! The sweet and sour steak and Mongolian beef reminded me of dishes I had as a child living overseas. We love 30 minutes away and will gladly make the trip down 280 to enjoy. My husband said he could just eat egg rolls, crab rangoon, and their spicy mustard and be happy. read more

As Black people we went into this establishment of service and was not greeted, even after saying hello to the first worker we saw. When the waiter came we asked about vegetarian options. There was only one option, according to the waiter, which read "Buddha Delight." This was our first time there. Atmosphere: We ordered a pickup order, so we were only inside the restaurant briefly. Both dine-in and take-out options are available. Service: Very quick and prompt service, but we received an incorrect dish (further explained). Food: We ordered the Jja Jang Meon, Jjam Pong, and Tangsuyook, but after leaving the restaurant, we realized that we had received a shrimp dish instead of the Tangsuyook (maybe misheard as Kkanpung Saewoo?). Although the jja jang meon's sauce was tasty, the noodles were too soft for our liking and broke very easily, but this may have been due to ordering take-out. The Jjam Pong was the best dish out of the three. The soup was flavorful and had a good variety of seafood in it! The pepper in the shrimp dish was too overbearing for our taste, and this is coming from people who love spicy food! Despite the good parts of the dishes, they were quite overpriced and did not hold out well as part of a takeout order. Overall: Hunan Cuisine's Korean style Chinese special dishes did not live up to the standards of authentic Korean dishes. It's a very typical Chinese restaurant but they serve a small selection of Korean dishes that aren't bad. There are not a lot of Korean spots in the Birmingham are which is why I enjoy visiting Hunan every now and then. I recommend trying any meat dishes from the Korean section but the jjajangmyeon and jjampong are average. Ordered mandarin chicken, a spring roll and the special Hot and Sour Soup with Seafood through Grub Hub. Delivery was on time and the food was still hot and did not have to reheated. The soup was some of the best HSS I've had. Large portion, there was a large scallop, several shrimp and a good amount of chicken and tofu. The 8.95 for two is a bargain, one portion filled up wife and she saved her meal for later. Spring roll was good but there was no dipping sauce other than what was prepackaged. I should have request restaurant sauces be packaged separately and tried their dipping sauce for the spring rolls, their mustard sauce and Red sauce but I forgot to request that so no harm no foul. My husband & I drive 45 miles just to eat the wonderful food at Hunan on Hwy 280. We have 3 Chinese food restaurants in our town but we are not fans. The food is absolutely wonderful here at Hunan. The staff is great and we love Lily! She is so friendly and makes sure we are taken care of. It is clean, great atmosphere and our favorite place for Chinese. James and Lily and their employees are always nice and accommodating, and they take pride in their food and service. I've eaten at the restaurant handful of times and it's always clean and the staff friendly. They have nice Decour and a great location. It's easy to miss if you don't know what to look for since it's in a multi business building on the bottom floor. I had the lemon chicken with white rice. The chicken is well cooked. There was a piece or two that was overcooked but not enough to ruin the meal. The rice was good and I love the eggrolls with duck sauce. As a minority in Birmingham, I'm Catholic, I am under the religious obligation of not eating meat on Ash Wednesday and Fridays during Lent. So we sprung for Hunan Cuisine. We started with the crab rangoons and spring rolls. The rangoons were alright but the dough was a little chewy. The spring rolls were made with the same wrapper as the egg rolls. The entrees were the Five Flavors Shrimp made of lightly breaded shrimp with a sweet and spicy sauce carrots and water chestnuts. We also had the Sezchuan shrimp which was good. This is great little spot for Chinese. Tucked away in an unassuming strip center on 280. Extremely pleasant staff and appears to be family owned. They take pride in their product and we've never had any issues with quality or taste. This is our third stop for carryout and the food was hot and well prepared. Portions were large enough to make two meals out of. The hot and sour soup was delicious and lived up to its name. Egg rolls were hot and crunchy but cooked perfectly, filled with all the deliciousness you'd demand from a quality roll. We had both the House Lo Mein and Mongolian Beef. Lo Mein was packed with meat and I savored every bite. Beef was well spiced and tender. This is a great little spot for dine in or to pick up dinner on the commute home. There were only two tables dining in. Combo meals (w/ soup and egg rolls) are only for parties of two. The hot and sour soup was on point. Place was clean and not cluttered. The fish tank w/ one fish could use some TLC. The General Tso's chicken was better than most using whole chilies and good sized pieces of chicken. The dish was a little out of balance being more sweet than savory. Best examples are more even. They also used breading more common with sweet and sour chicken like a pancake batter consistency.
