We stopped here for dinner on our way home from Ocean City as it was about halfway between there and home. This is a modest, no frills, classic Chinese food restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was perfect. I'm sure the gentleman serving us was the owner and his wife eventually sat at a table behind us folding cloth napkins. They seem to do a lot of take out. And while we were only one of two tables eating in, one could tell by the number of napkins being folded that the place does a pretty sit down business. This was a good sign.Not factory. I was pleased that we were immed given tea and noodles w/duck sauce (part of that old school experience). We had the lunch specials. The prices are unreal (as in cheaper than most). For $19 we had *The mentioned noodles/duck sauce/HOT tea *BONE IN Spare Rib combo-fried rice/egg roll (I think was home made) *Brocolli garlic sauce w/white rice *Both came w/soup (Wonton-pillowy and light.Maybe a tad high on sodium) *and BOTH came w/ice cream ! We were so pleasantly surprised we were going to order food for takeout for later but since we were not close to home,and it was 85, we opted to visit another time.I would gladly deal w/decor issues and drive the ride next time I`m in the mood for real American Chinese food. Quite possibly the best Chinese food I've ever had. I dined in with family to celebrate. Started out with crispy noodles (the good ones), duck sauce, hot mustard and pickled cabbage. This was all free of charge given to us at the start of the meal. Water and hot tea were the only drinks available and the tea was sooooo good. The waiter here was so friendly and joked around with us. Had BBQ spare ribs and Kung Pao shrimp. So amazing. The fried rice here is to die for. Please give this place so much business. read more

Great food. People are ok. Just bring a tote bag with any Chinese Food. It leaks on my car fabric seats was able to get out. The restaurant gave me extra fortune cookies and I did get the Chinese pizza scallion pizza out of my cloth car seat. My bag broke I always have extra tote bags. So I know from now on tote bag and wash the bag after Chinese food. The vegetables lo mein is great Wow lots of vegetables! I am broke but when I have more money $16 pineapple chicken theirs is so much better not fried and only pineapple there's is chicken pineapple and vegetables in a very delicious sauce! Best Authentic Chinese Food I've had in Jersey, great dishes and that Chinatown feel. Really enjoyed the variety of Duck dishes on the menu.

I don't usually post reviews. But just want other people to know that chow mein at this restaurant is just flavorless chicken, celery, onion is some sort of clear juice. I called after I opened it thinking it was a mistake but they told me that chow mein is in fact just chicken and celery without noodles. Even though "chow mein" literally translates to fried noodles? The food quality, authenticity, and price are all worth the 5 stars. I'm not sure why people would complain when their prices are so cheap compared to other areas. The food was tasty and did not get me sick so I would say that's already a step above some other restaurants. Let me qualify the statement above by assuring you that I've eaten my fair share of sweet and sour chicken, egg rolls and chicken fried rice. And though I've never been to China, the mandarin / cantonese dishes served at Hunan East remind me a lot of our favorite spot in Ohio. The restaurant itself appears clean and had several patrons on New Year's Eve when we picked up our to go. The staff was "all business" as I picked up our food, paid and left. The only thing I would change would be the creepy fish tank next to the desk (clean it or chuck it) and tone down the extreme bells at the front door. read more
