Tea smoked crispy duck and Beef tendon soup (supposedly).
Andrew S.

A very good Chinese restaurant for such a small town. Their tea smoked peking duck is phenomenal and hits all the right notes. It is one of those dishes you have to assemble yourself so be prepared to put in some fun work. Don't worry, it isn't much as you just open the steam bun, put some delicious crispy tea smoked duck inside, throw some of the plum sauce on top, and garnish with some cilantro and thinly sliced scallion. It is well worth the small effort. The server was super nice and attentive. My only knock is that the beef tendon soup isn't beef tendon. It seems just like extra gristly beef spare rib. Having eaten tendon several times for dim sum and inside pho, I know it is supposed to be clear when cooked properly. Their supposed beef tendon just looks like hunks of beef with extra gristle. That being said, the broth in the soup was deep, and richly flavored. I wouldn't get it again if i was lookin for tendon specifically, but i would get it if i was in the mood for a deeply flavored broth with chunks of beef, noodles, and a little bok choy.

Three cup chicken and Chinese broccoli

Food was delicious great flavors came out fast; however, pricing was very expensive for Carbondale standards almost $50 after two dishes, tea, and tax. Overall great experience however!

Crab Rangoon

Growing up in Carbondale, Hunan was one of the dopest spots in town. Came back a few times after moving out of town about 8 years ago. Went to lunch with my parents today to remember the old times and it was pretty good. Spring rolls and crab rangoons for appetizers. Just like I remember them. General tso's chicken still hit the spot and brought back memories of eating it in high school. My mom always orders beef in garlic sauce which Tasted different. Older version was better. My dad is a vegetarian and likes the Szechuan Tofu which I also tried. Not too spicy for my taste so I was pleased. Closed out the meal with oolong tea. I don't know how evenings are there but it's a shame I didn't see more customers there for lunch.

Chicken with Broccoli. Has a biting sour taste.

Food isn't bad General Tso chicken with light sauce is not too sweet which is good, but lacks a bit of flavor. Also slightly sour taste. Not bad overall Chicken with broccoli had a slightly sour taste to it. Beef fried rice not bad, average

Great Thai food served in a comfortable dining atmosphere. Service is always great. This is one of my top two places to go in C'dale.

Took a chance on trying New Kahala given the price and the Taiwanese options on the menu. Dropped…read morein on a Wed night. Ordered the pork chop rice noodle soup, lu rou fan, and the yu choy with tofu in spicy tea. - though the wheat noodle version of the pork chop noodle soup came to our table, the pork chop was full size, crisp and great match for the soup - will need to double check with the staff which noodle is on my order next time. - the lu rou fan - we realized afterwards - they had forgotten to finish it off with a soy egg and mustard greens - still a good comfort food dish (though I prefer a pork belly version) - the yu choy in spicy tea was perfect with tofu since I didn't want to make the dish heavy with a meat. Spicy tea to me is like a spicy shrimp paste described as Malaysian style at other restaurants. this dish was solid veggie option to balance our other meat heavy dishes. - the hot and sour soup and egg roll were somewhat plain as included options on the lu rou fan and yu choy (would not ding them for this since I don't expect these sides as the star) - soda fountain option with Coke products Dining in experience is a bit dimly lit...maybe creating a more relaxed environment. Chinese/Taiwanese pop was playing.

Has a lack of competition around here. The menu has a pretty good variety for a small place. Came in and it wasn't busy. It's got a pretty okay amount of tables inside. This is located in a strip mall along with a few other local restaurants. Maybe this place gets overlooked. There were a few others inside, so they knew about it though. It's about $11 for an entree. The vegetarian ones include Tofu With Mushrooms. Crispy tofu without being burnt. Entrees also come with a soup. The fried onion was one of these. Has pretty good flavors for what it is, even for those not authentic. It's located on East Grand Avenue at Wall Street. There's plenty of options for both meat eaters and vegetarians.
