We visit often, but this was our first time out on the patio so I wanted to update my review. Loved the fountain and all of the flowers. It was very peaceful and enjoyable. We always start with the pork fried dumplings. They come with sweet chili Thai sauce and it's delicious. I had chicken lo mein, which is my go-to. My husband had the orange chicken this visit. Service was a little slow for a Saturday evening, but still very friendly and the food was great as always. read more

A very good Chinese restaurant for such a small town. Their tea smoked peking duck is phenomenal and hits all the right notes. It is one of those dishes you have to assemble yourself so be prepared to put in some fun work. Don't worry, it isn't much as you just open the steam bun, put some delicious crispy tea smoked duck inside, throw some of the plum sauce on top, and garnish with some cilantro and thinly sliced scallion. It is well worth the small effort. The server was super nice and attentive. My only knock is that the beef tendon soup isn't beef tendon. It seems just like extra gristly beef spare rib. Having eaten tendon several times for dim sum and inside pho, I know it is supposed to be clear when cooked properly. Their supposed beef tendon just looks like hunks of beef with extra gristle. That being said, the broth in the soup was deep, and richly flavored. I wouldn't get it again if i was lookin for tendon specifically, but i would get it if i was in the mood for a deeply flavored broth with chunks of beef, noodles, and a little bok choy. read more

Growing up in Carbondale, Hunan was one of the dopest spots in town. Came back a few times after moving out of town about 8 years ago. Went to lunch with my parents today to remember the old times and it was pretty good. Spring rolls and crab rangoons for appetizers. Just like I remember them. General tso's chicken still hit the spot and brought back memories of eating it in high school. My mom always orders beef in garlic sauce which Tasted different. Older version was better. My dad is a vegetarian and likes the Szechuan Tofu which I also tried. Not too spicy for my taste so I was pleased. Closed out the meal with oolong tea. I don't know how evenings are there but it's a shame I didn't see more customers there for lunch. read more

I'm spoiled. I live in a big city with a big Chinatown. So many places I can sample cuisine from all parts of China. I wasn't sure what to expect in a small town. The decor was cute, the menu featured dishes from all over China and explained them. We tried a small variety and everything was very good. Duck was crispy, sauces were tasty without being overbearing. Service was great, even on this crazy busy eclipse weekend. Would recommend for sure! read more

We were passing through town and saw that Reddit recommended this place. All the chicken dishes looked good to me, so I asked for the chef's favorite to cook. All I really need to say is that this is definitely the best Chinese food in this area! I was pleasantly surprised and pleased because it makes my life a whole lot easier. Can't live without Asian food! At first when you look at the exterior, it doesn't look very appealing, but when you walk inside, the restaurant looks pretty authentic. Red mahogany chairs, Chinese art on the wall and on the tables, and running fountains. It's was a lot smaller than I thought, but it is very clean. The service was excellent! The waiter, Irvin, was so polite and considerate. He made sure to check up on us and even gave us extra fried rice to bring home at no charge. Fabulous! The menu has food from different places around Asia. I loved how they would list the dishes and then the part of the world they came from. There were dishes from Canton, India, Thai, etc. Made things so much easier to order and they had an extensive menu as well. We ordered two types of soups, hot and sour and tom yum chicken. Both were delicious and a lot better than what we expected. For the price, you get a bowl and not a cup. The Hunan lo mein has spaghetti-like noodles, but thank god it didn't taste like Italian pasta drench in Asian sauce. It was so good. I loved that it tasted authentic and the noodles were perfectly cooked. It had three different types of meat in it; shrimp, chicken, and beef. Usually we go here for Christmas Eve and it's great! But this time it was pretty bad. We ordered some appetizers, the calamari was cold, our simosas took an hour and ten minutes to get there, and when we finally got a manager, he was extremely patronizing and rude. He comped our meal, but it still took another 20 minutes to come out. The chicken fried rice had no chicken in it, and the garlic tofu had barely any tofu. Then no one would refill our drinks or help us anymore. We still tipped, and then when we left the manager followed us out and was rude once again. This used to be a great restaurant for Christmas Eve, but the service was not good, the food was messed up multiple times, and it took a lot of work to get any help. I got the pork fried dumplings and then I got the lunch with Shrimp in black bean sauce and on the side I substituted the rice for noodles but I also got a side of rice too It was all good. I came to Carbondale to teach at SIU after time living in NYC, DC, and Chicago. I didn't really expect a solid Chinese restaurant serving regional specialties including sichuan cuisine, but that's exactly what this place is. Someone else said it isn't just good, it's "big city good," and that's right. I'm so pleased this place is here and I don't have to trek to St. Louis or beyond for the good stuff. I've still only tried a few things on the menu in 2 times ordering and one time eating in pre-Covid, but I've been consistently impressed. The Kung Pao Chicken in particular was shockingly good. I've had a lot of indifferent Kung Pao Chicken that doesn't get the spicing right over the years, and this just does. And certainly spicier than the average Chinese restaurant (for the spicy dishes), but they don't blow you away with it - rather it's really well done and balanced. If it's not clear, I want people to eat there because I want their business to survive the current pandemic entirely for selfish reasons - this place is way too good to lose. read more

When I went on a Wednesday evening, I ordered the crispy tofu and it was one of the strangest things... 6 breaded tofu sticks with (not nearly enough) sauce on the side, plus rice. I ordered an entree but this dish is ultimately an appetizer, and a bland tasting one at that. Meanwhile, my dining partner had the crispy pork which was delicious with tons of veggies and a great sauce mixed into the breaded meat. I'll probably go back and try something else, but until then, be warned: don't order the crispy tofu! read more

First, the menus are ridiculous. They offer a menu that appears to be ridden in font 4. I asked for a larger menu and was given a magnifying glass. That didn't work well so I had to use my phone to take a picture and enlarge it. To top it off, my wife had a hair in her rice. The manager took off the price of the rice from the bill.
