They recently received vegetables and herbs along with a good selection of outdoor plants. They have a wonderful variety of peppers, several varieties of cabbage and beets. I picked up dill, basil, thyme, leeks, cabbage, and marigolds this trip. They also had wonderful looking lettuce, strawberries (June bearing), eggplant, broccoli, and tomatoes. It's cheaper to purchase an entire flat than individual trays but you can mix and match. I paid $20 for the flat which holds 48 plants. Inside the store you find a great selection of produce. I always buy country ham here. During the summer months I've purchased eggs from local farmers as fresh strawberries and other items. Their prices for bagged compost and garden soil is competitive with big box stores so I must prefer to support a local business. The mulch I purchased here last fall was priced lower than big box stores. I highly recommend Dobson Produce.

The cupcakes that I had then were Pumpkin Spice Cake and Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese icing and we also had Chocolate Cupcakes and they got rave reviews at my wedding! I opted for a vanilla cupcake and a few truffles/cake balls this trip and they were all great! The cake balls/truffles were Pineapple and Strawberry and they were super moist and flavorful. The cupcake was perfect. A yummy vanilla cake with a delicious frosting! It's nothing super fancy when you go in, as the case area is pretty small, but it's full of love and yummy treats! Go in there and buy a few bakery goods, you will not be disappointed. Surry County is know for a regional dessert called Sonker. This is the craziest word, it makes me think someone was calling it something else and the Southern tongue made it sonker. But I have no proof of this or even heard anyone saying, just my theory. A sonker can be made differently, but I had three from three restaurants, because once you try it, you are ready to try more because they are most delicious! At Prudence McCabe it is like a thinner cobbler, with equal parts fruit and crust. The most intriguing part, she says they bake the sonkers and then grate cold butter on it with a sprinkle of sugar. Stop you had me at hello. What I really enjoyed was that it wasn't sticky sweet, call ahead and order some so you can choose your flavors, and it can be ready when you arrive. Or buy some to heat up later. There are many other treats, don't overlook the caramel and candid apples, the handmade chocolates, scones and there were bags of oyster crackers when we were there. Walking into the bakery felt like stepping into a pastry lover's dream. The warm aroma of freshly baked bread and sweet confections filled the air, and the presentation was nothing short of picture-perfect. Every cake, pie, and cookie looked as though it belonged in a high-end magazine and I found myself salivating over every sweet concoction. But sadly, the taste didn't live up to the visual appeal. Despite the bakery's inviting atmosphere, the flavors fell flat, lacking the richness and depth I had hoped for. The confectionary sugars were tasteless and dry. It's frustrating when something looks and smells incredible but doesn't deliver where it truly counts--on the palate. We got the Cow Patty cake which is like a no bake cookie on top of a chocolate cake: the top was ok but crumbled when you tried to cut it, and the chocolate cake below was very dry from being overbaked. I was super excited to see she had Hot Cross Buns which I had always wanted to try but never found a bakery that sold them. Once again I was left very disappointed. The bun itself was very dry and the cross on top was so hard you could not eat it. I was literally able to peel the cross off the bun and it did not break. The last thing we got was what I think was a Chocolate Chunk Pecan Pie ??? It was like a chocolate chess pie with pecans and chunks of chocolate baked into it. Once again very disappointed. The pie should have been sweet but was very lack luster and flavorless. One bright spot, however, was the owner who was pleasant despite the culinary shortcomings. I appreciate her kindness and the effort she put into creating such a beautiful space, but when it comes to flavor, there's room for improvement. Here's hoping future visits bring a better balance between the bakery's stunning presentation and the taste of its creations.

It reminded me of a great shop I used to visit frequently in Greensboro which is no longer in business. What a thrill to find a local shop run by ladies with a great eye for design and quality. I purchased several items which they carefully packaged for me and held them while I continued to shop other businesses in the area. I ended up with 2 large bags that would have been awkward to carry. When I was ready to leave town I stopped by and picked up my purchases. They also have a few additional items on the second floor that have significant mark downs. I'm excited to have found this great shop and plan to be a regular customer as they carry several designer lines I have not seen in this market. Definitely worth a visit.
