Hopefully you won't need to read this review more than once, ever…read more As much as I hate to admit it, this program worked. I remember cars spewing all kinds of sooty crap into the air in the 1990s - this has pretty much been completely eliminated on BC roads. Of course, emissions standards have improved since then, and all modern cars now have OBD2. What this means is that your car computer now automatically knows if something is wrong, and will throw a Check Engine light. On that note, these people must have the easiest job in the world. They get you to step out of your car and wait in a booth, plug a connector into the car, tell you there are no problems (well, gee, the Check Engine light has never turned on, I never would've guessed), then take your $40 or so. It's worse than cover at a nightclub. Thank goodness they've started scaling down by $2 every calendar month ($36 in January 2014, $14 in December 2014), so at least the trusty government is somewhat being "reasonable". Goodbye AirCare. As much as you were helpful back then, you won't be missed.

I have a love/hate relationship with Aircare. On one hand, for the backyard mechanic it's a cheap…read moretuning aid to help you figure out if your tune is lean or rich and what may be causing it. But for a normal consumer, it can be a huge waste of time and money. But we all breath air and a lot of rural BC folks that come visit Vancouver say that the air here is dirty. I even notice the haze surrounding this city during the summer. So maybe Aircare wasn't that bad. I guess it's too bad that commercial trucks never had to go through Aircare because I see a lot of soot coming out diesel trucks. I think the public would think it was more fair to see that goes through emissions testing. Otherwise the process here is efficient and I for one, will miss it somewhat now that it's being phased out.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of AirCare as I think it's a cash cow that has fed ICBC and the…read moregovernment a little too long and I am happy to see this program gone in 2014, and this would have probably been my last visit as my car is newer than 2001 so I had to pay $45 for the two friggin years that I don't have to do it again. This location is close to Marine Drive and Fraser, which means it's not too far from my work, and I refuse to wake up any earlier to do this, and may as well go on work time to get it done. Oh how I don't miss the days of driving an old car, and for them to put on a hose on my muffler, and waste away my hard money earned fuel idling away on my car, and reving it up on their wheel spinner to have the fumes come out while running some rpm's as I wait helplessly in the booth listening to the PA stating what AirCare has done for the province (why don't you tell me how much money you have taken from the people?). Well, I've lived for this ever since I had a car, and coming to this one was a piece of cake, they have a seperate line for cars 2001 and up, and once I went in, they told me to pull my car up, go into the room as they now just plug a wire into something on my car, and a few minutes later I am out of there. Whether this whole gimick of a thing works, as I know my cars I have had have always had pretty good emissions, compared to some of the smog monsters on the road, they made it painless for me, and fast and I'm on my way to insuring my vehicle again, and handing over more hard earned moolah!

A hot summer day, long overdue for Vancouver I drive to the Aircare Centre for our VW's first ever…read moretest. I pass by buses spewing black smoke, a 5 ton produce truck burping dark clouds that would make an 1800's choo-choo train jealous. Turning into the test site, I am greeted by one long line-up and empty lanes adjacent. Guess which lane I have to wait in? Lane 1, diesel only... the long line. My one star complaint is not the 30 minute wait for my 2 minute test in the swamp-ass hot sun. It's that why am I here in the first place? Our Golf is a youngster. Six years old, and already subject to needless exams. Wah? What about that bus out there, or that tractor trailer unit belching black death out on Kent. Wasn't Aircare supposed to stop these guys? Not even the slightly cocky British accent from the guy taking my $45 brightened this smoggy experience. My free advice is shut these test sites down, and spend all that operating money out on the streets going after the emitting polluters and leave us new car driving folks alone.
