I can only comment on the bar because we just had drinks. Beatrice was a really great bartender. They have a great bourbon selection! Make sure you check out the flight selection before ordering we didn't and they have some great combos!! I have attached their drink menus. Food looked good. I did over hear someone say don't get the steaks but everything else is good. The hiker hydration is a really good sweet refreshing drink! They sell red river moonshine here too. Headed here for dinner tonight. Walked in and it wasn't very busy around 5pm. We got our table and the server was very friendly. She noticed our kids hadn't got crayons and brought them right over. She then quickly informed us that they were out of Diet Pepsi and lemonade. Lemonade is normally our go to, so our girls changed. We then ordered. Meals came out and my loaded baked potato was wrong. It had butter, but no bacon. So I told our server. She brought me a new one and came back and said they were out of bacon which is odd because my husband's burger had bacon on it and the guy behind me had bacon on his club. She didn't offer to refund it. The check came and I was charged for this loaded baked potato. The only thing I got that wasn't on the regular baked potato was a little cheese. Very odd. I also got a roll with no butter. I heard they are newer so hopefully things get better over time. The bathroom sign was my favorite. read more

While at the Red River Gorge, my crew only ate out at two restaurants and this was the good one. The bartender told me it was a little over a year old but has the feel of a classic hunting lodge that may have been around awhile "in a good way!" The whiskey selection was fantastic and the pours were reasonably priced which you would hope for in Kentucky. The staff were all friendly and informative on the items on the menu. The food was great with my favorite being the wings that I ate with no self control before I could get a good picture. I wish the hungry hiker was closer to home, looks like a great place to catch a football game. read more

My husband and I stopped by here on our trip. We came pretty early in the day so it hadn't gotten busy yet, we were seated right away and helped pretty soon after. Our server was very friendly! No complaints on the service. We loved the onion rings also, very fresh and crispy. My only complaint is the price, but also trying to keep in mind that this is a very touristy area, and one of the few places to get food. $50 for two sandwiches, appetizer, and fountain drinks. I liked my meal, but the chips were soggy, and my husband didn't like his food too much. I think if we came back again I'd definitely come just for an appetizer and drinks! read more

Friendly and fresh is what I would call this place. My lady friend and I came here on my birthday (3/7) to celebrate a successful day of hiking. She had carmel apple cider (which she loved) along with the chimney top smothered chicken. And it was smothered and delicious. OMG this is a very cute well design and fun restaurant. The food was amazing and huge portions and great prices the outpost club absolutely delicious. It was so big. You can hardly get it in your mouth. Unless you have a huge mouth then it'll fit fine. The service was amazing. Our waitress was wonderful. The manager came by asked us if we needed anything a couple of times it's all around good service they top off your drinks. They see you as soon as possible. The food came out in a quick manner the steak Frys, which I am not a fan of normally they were crispy all the way through. There was no dough in the middle. They were absolutely delicious. Everything was seasoned great. The tomatoes were extremely fresh. It was just all around a good experience. I would highly recommend this restaurant to any friends and family. read more

Even while starving after a full day of climbing the best thing you could say about the food we had was that it was... yellow. The service was lovely so it wasn't a bad experience, but I certainly wouldn't go for something to eat if the dishes we had were any representation. We didn't get any drinks, however, so I can't give the full picture. We had: the Louisville hot brown, featuring lunch meat turkey smothered in cheese over surprisingly good texas toast, a huge portion, but for the price I'd have really wanted some non-amalgamated turkey; fried shrimp with bang bang (fry sauce) dip that was about on par for a reheatable dish you'd get in bulk for 1/4 the price from costco. I'd feel bad about giving this place a 2-star review because they're newer and probably still refining things, but considering the food alone, it may warrant it. read more

The food and the service were very good. our waitress, Raegen was great. My only complaint is that an 18% gratuity was added to the bill, which I understand because we were a large party , but when I tried to customize the tip to give more than the 18%, I was charged the 18% plus the 20% I wanted to give. They had trouble printing out my receipt so I didn't notice until I left the restaurant and didn't have time to go back to get it corrected. read more

We love the ambiance here. The staff was very friendly and excited to serve We started with the Caprese Salad which was very fresh, would have liked a little olive oil on it but still good. Our salads were fresh and their homemade Cilantro Lime Vinaigrette was so good! I had the salmon with a loaded baked potato and was very happy with my choice! The Salmon was grilled perfect, not over done and please give me a tub of that bourbon butter!! My husband had the Hot Brown, he was satisfied but always compares to the original at the Brown Hotel. After a day spent on the trails of Natural Bridge we showed up hungry and left more than satisfied! We arrived around 4 p.m. and were seated immediately. Our waitress was super friendly, took our drink orders and let us peruse the menu. We got our drinks and ordered. We started with the Backwoods Board. That alone could have been a meal! Great variety and it was delicious- we only ate half, it was more food than I imagined. Thankfully I only ordered the Camp Caprese Salad as my meal. Delicious! My husband had steak, salad & loaded baked potato. The salad was fresh & filing, the steak was well seasoned and cooked just as ordered & the potato looked great. We came to the Hungry Hiker on a Saturday morning after attempting to have breakfast at Danielle Boone's coffee shop. The line there was ridiculously long and we were hungry, so we drove a little up the road and came here instead! And we are so happy that we did! It was a beautiful day and we sat on the back patio by the river and our waitress was very friendly and the food was great. Wow.. I'm super impressed with this place! We are down in the red at least once a month as we own a cabin in Beattyville, and we are pretty partial to our favorite spots. We went to hit La Cabana and they were closed but this pushed us to finally try out the Hungry Hiker. We honestly hadn't tried it because we joked about them advertising their meatball sub on the gas station right off of Slade. I told my husband "if their best dish is the meatball sub I'm not impressed" well now I'm eating my words. Their burgers are delicious I got the burger with the pretzel bun- I'm partial to a pretzel bun burger and THIS pretzel bun was the best I've ever had I'm like pretty sure it's a homemade pretzel so it's literally like having a soft warm pretzel instead of those harder store bought buns. Fries are delicious and perfectly seasoned. Coleslaw was fantastic. Servers were genuinely so nice. We will 10000% be returning and I feel like this will be a new staple in the Gorge! Inside is so nicely decorated and even had a huge Christmas tree up, as well as cute climbing theme (obviously..) . 10/10 good job to who ever opened this gem up! read more

Our food came out VERY quickly, though our server had warned us the kitchen was a little backed up. The place was pretty packed, though we got seated immediately! Our server Kristi. was awesome and very friendly, and provided quick service. I was extremely surprised to hear this was her first week as a server, ever!! They may have a few growing pains to manage, as they were out of bacon and the first beer I ordered, but these small inconveniences are a normal part of a new thing. They had live music too, which was really nice, though perhaps a bit loud. I think the biggest issue in the future might be parking, because I feel like they will always be packed!
