Took my pup here and couldn't be happier! The staff treated him so sweetly--he got a bath with nail clipping and ear cleaning included, and we added on teeth cleaning. My last visit at Hung Brehaut was not a great visit. I have two dogs that I took my dog for their grooming appointment. One groomer groomed, one dog and another groomer groomed the other dog. The dog groomer who groomed my dog Max bruised his back side in 6 places. My dog was traumatized when he came home. He would not eat and didn't want to come out of his cage for an entire week. He cried throughout the day because of the bruises. I believe The groomers name was Tanaya who groomed Max. The groomer who groomed Daisy did a great job. I was at Hungry Hound today and over heard the owner (Shelley) rudely talking to her staff. Usually I wouldn't make a comment like this but the stuff she was saying to her staff has to be heard by someone. She was looking (in a judging way) at my daughter who has learning disabilities, My daughter was pretty upset about the whole thing. These people are ridiculou! Scheduled an appointment between 8-9am. By 9:30 they still haven't showed up no phone call or anything. We call them and then they say "will be there between 10:30-11:30. Lauren is Mr Dixon Noodle's favorite groomer! He went for a full spa day nails trimmed, fur cut and bathed with the added body butter. We wait for the days that Lauren works because he responds incredibly well with her. She is punctual, professional, informative and engaging. Today Mr. Dixon left prepared for the rain with new stylish coat outerware. We did purchase some walking socks for the first time. We bought the extra large and thought we would be ok. Next time, we will ask questions. These only worked out for a short time outside. They started coming off and when we brought him in his feet were soaked (but not muddy). DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG TO THIS PLACE IF YOU CARE ABOUT THEIR WELL BEING !!! This place is over priced and think they are on Rodeo Dr. in Beverly Hills when they are in fact a small " mom&pop" shop in St. John Indiana ! I only put up with their high prices and waiting lists for appointments because I thought I had no other local options . If for whatever reason that you miss an appointment or are late they will put you on the " naughty list" and make you pre-pay for your next one for at least 6 months until they feel that you earned your way back into their fancy "graces " ! Well after getting off their naughty list and pre-paying for 6 months I took my dog back for a grooming and this is how they brought him out to my husband !! I was waiting in the car due to a recent knee break and was on crutches and couldn't come in ! When my husband brought him out to me I was crying like a baby because my 13 lb. Bichon/Malteese was soo bloody because they cut his tongue in the groomimg process and were COMPLETELY UNAPOLOGETIC!! If I could give them less than one star, I would but thats not an option. Got a new groomer in Lowell, Indiana called Velvet Bow Dog Grooming and they're amazing. You should take your dog there instead. read more

Had my dog groomed here, after getting him home realized they removed his undercoat which I specifically told them I did not want touched,certain breeds have and need their undercoat , now it's winter and he has no protection and his fur is actually sparse in spots , his coat doesn't even feel the same ! Also his fur felt chalky/dusty and they insisted they didn't put anything in it , he felt more clean before I brought him in! Hoping his coat will come back! His fur is no longer even soft, it's coarse and dry! They refunded my money but that doesn't undo the damage done to his coat! They did not listen to any of my requests about what I wanted done ,just a simple bath, blow dry and brush ,trim sanitary areas and obviously they aren't educated enough about certain breeds to know how to groom properly, would never recommend!!! To top it off when I called about my concerns, the lady on the phone thought she put me on hold and was talking about me to the other employees, I heard the whole conversation, so they have permanently lost my business, very unprofessional and not 1/2 as knowledgeable as they portray themselves to be , in my opinion! read more

Started taking Rella here after a person at the place I used to take her to cut a few of her quicks during a nail trim. She didn't seem too keen on going in when the time came to go in again. Hungry Hound is a great place, little pricy on some of the pet accessories but, worth it for the quality and the customer service. They offer a large selection of all natural dog and cat foods and treats. Most of which are decently priced and they may have some samples available if you ask. The techs doing her trims seemed very knowledgeable, even recommending that I bring her in more often for trims bc the quick will recede with regimented trimming. While I'd like her nails to be a bit on the long side for hiking and all that climbing... they're hell on wood floors. By the by... Manicure Mondays - $5 trims The dog treats... super cute and decorated, decently priced and all natural. Get some, Rella can't get enough of em. Definitely worth a looksee. read more

I have always been happy with the service here, they have the groomers come out for a quick run down of what you need and don't seem to use cages for the dogs, short timeframe and my dogs always look good coming out. However, recently took my elderly dog in for a grooming and have the mats behind his ears removed. Everything seemed fine until I was petting him that night and there was something hard behind his ear, it was just a scab no big deal. I kept an eye on it and it became infected so I took him to the vet ($100 later). I spoke with management and the owner who didn't seem to believe me. All I wanted was an apology and maybe a discount or a free nail trim (never asked for them to pay for the vet bill or anything), but all I got was " there's no notes in his file" ie not our problem. Please do not bring your dog here! Beware of Ashley the groomer and possibly any other groomers! All 3 dogs could have been cut by different groomers, but we met Ashely on this day who would be grooming one of our pups. It looks like a great place, but it's not. People and staff are nice, but don't be fooled by the inexperienced staffing groomers. We met Ashely and she was real nice when we dropped our 3 Maltese dogs off. Ashley asked us what cut we wanted. My husband and I proceeded to tell her we wanted the short puppy cut. Ashley did an ok job not as nice as Alsip Grooming Place we usually go to, but it was descent I guess. About 2 days later all 3 of my dogs broke out in scabs big/little scabs in both ears. She went so low on the inside of their ears that they have been scratching and shaking their heads for the past week. We finally had to take them to the vet to make sure they didn't have fleas from the facility or even an infection. They are very lucky it wasn't serious because I would have went in there with my vet bill and made them pay every penny. We now have to apply a medicated moisturizer to their ears for 10 days due to the dryness and irritation they caused my puppies. Ridiculous and inexperienced groomers at the place! This has never happened at our regular groomers facility and the only reason I went here was because our groomers place was flooded and was closed down at the time. I was so worried about my dogs and no experienced groomer goes that low on a puppy cut enough to cause them and their owners this much headache and worry. I will just have my husband cut their hair or wait until my regular groomer is available!! read more

I like this place at first, but the owner is doing some wacky things that will keep me away from now on. First she decided to stop doing small dog play group. Whaaa? It's free money for her, I think she did it just to spite the dog trainer she was using, who she then dumped for someone who doesn't even live in the area. But in doing so, she's lost my business. I can buy pricey dog food and biscuits lots of other places. It's too bad, as the staff are nice enough, and the groomers are very good. But the owner is unfriendly unless she thinks you are about to spend a lot of money. read more

I was new to the area and someone had referred me here. I brought my two dogs to be groomed. They did a great job (they look cute as ever) and they were helpful in terms of helping me find a good coconut oil for my pups coats. They also were patient in trying on fleece jackets for them. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!! I will NOT be going back to Hungry Hound in St. John. I was excited to try this groomer because I had heard good things. My golden doodle (10 months old) was overdue for grooming due to unavoidable circumstances so she was unfortunately pretty matted in a few spots. I was told she might need to be shaved and I had to sign a couple forms to say it was ok. The forms referred to emergency vet needs, possible stress and anxiety to the dog, etc. I asked the groomer to please try and preserve her pretty hair and cute look as much as possible (my dog was so cute) and she assured me she would try her best. I was told to come get her at 4:00 (I dropped her off at 1:00). I got a call at 3:00 saying my dog was done and to get her at 3:30. I thought, "that was fast!" Red flag! When I went to get her the clerk peeked in the back and told the groomer I was there for my dog. She then had me pay and said it was $100! I was surprised it was so much but thought because of the matting it must have taken extra work. I asked what the fee would be for grooming under "normal non-matting" circumstances. The clerk couldn't tell me! She said she'd have to ask the manager. When they brought my dog out, she was completely shaved except for her tail. She didn't even look like my dog. I wouldn't have recognized her on the street. She was anxious, nervous and not herself for several days, barely leaving her crate. So, don't charge someone $100 to shave a dog! That's not beautifying him/her at all and a customer shouldn't have to pay that much for a groomer to shave the hair off. That's NOT grooming! And prices should be visibly listed or at least be known by employees! Don't wait your time or money! read more

Took our goldendoodle there and was the worst grooming he has had in 8 yrs. he did not even smell clean. The cut was extremely uneven, and looked like his legs from the knee down were not even trimmed. The inner back legs and belly were missed as well, along with his bum area. I have groomed him myself and realize these are difficult areas to groom. For $85 I expect a nice smelling well groomed dog and that is not what I got. read more

Beware if you have an elderly dog! My 13 yr old Shih tzu was perfectly healthy when I dropped her off for grooming. She loved her daily walks and hopping on the couch to sit with me or look out the window. Now she can barley walk and can barely get her hind legs to move. She is in a lot of pain. It's been a week since her grooming appointment. When I called to find out what happened they just said she was difficult and two people needed to hold her down, so she might be a little sore. That sounds like it is a dangerous situation for any animal to hold them down, especially if you can see they are already nervous. Why wouldn't you just stop the appointment before hurting the dog? She has been groomed every 3 months for 13 years. Yes, she may be difficult but nothing like this has ever happened before at any of her other groomers. This was the first time we've been to Hungry Hound because we are new to the area and we saw they had good reviews. But from my experience, they have an inexperienced grooming team, too many dogs going at once and the grooming room sounds chaotic. This is no place for small, elderly dogs. I would give 0 stars if it was an option, but at least want to get a warning out to others before you trust them with your fur baby! I also have a 10 yr old wheaten terrier and there is no way I would take him here! read more

I have been going here for two years since I got my Maltese mix dog. They always were very nice up until recently. I understand that they are on a tight schedule, but that shouldn't mean you rush your work because of it. They may want to reconsider their time frames, because they just rush and have no compassion. They will tell you that they have to shave your dog bald before actually putting in the work to just get a couple knots out. I will not be returning here. They are absolutely ok with losing customers and that will only go so far, leading to none. I was told today by the groomer who should be at home because she clearly woke up on the wrong side of bed, that all she was willing to do was shave my dog bald, have me sign the waiver, or let someone else groom my dog because she wasn't a good fit anyways. All of this was said in front of the "salon manager" who was a bit more helpful, but all in all this was horrible customer service. I was loyal to this one particular groomer, she was nice every single time, prior to today. All I needed to hear was this horrible attitude to never come back nor let my dog stay. I could only imagine how badly my dog would be treated. It was all about her time and schedule which is fine I get it, but you can't show that's all that matters people put their dogs in their care out of trust, to know they will be taken care of. Not only was I treated as if I wasn't a customer, she wanted to treat my dog as if she was a stray dog off the street. I'm very disappointed. read more

Did a great job grooming my senior poodle! Cleaned the ears without creating any inflammation for which I am grateful. Nice close cut and perfect ear shaping. II can't thank Hungry Hound enough for initiating a very reasonably priced Pick-up and Drop-off Service for grooming. My 12 year old German Shepherd is so arthritic it is a painful ordeal for both of us to get him in and out of my car, so the only time I put him through the trauma is for his annual vet visit. Hungry Hound sent a beautiful van to my home with just a few easy to climb stairs for my dog to get into the van. The van is equipped with a large, secured crate so my dog could ride comfortably and safely. Tom, the driver, was friendly and helpful. My dog has been groomed before at Hungry Hound, so I knew they would do a good job, and they did. And he returned home happy and trauma free! Thank you! read more

I LOVE this place. I originally went there to check out the food they offered because my dog was very finicky towards his food. Right away a girl named Macy helped me and also spent time with me to educate me on the best foods and treats for my dogs. Needless to say my dog is not a finicky eater anymore and actually loves eating his food. I was so pleased with the service I even made an appointment to get my dog groomed there next week! A person comes in with their dog for a nail trim, they take this dog back right away. I said excuse me I've been waiting for 15 minutes, was told that the other customer was a preferred customer. I left immediately, this is how you lose customers. Did not know the staff was being trained in being rude to people. Owner is mean to her customers, see a lot of the people that used to shop at her store in a competitors shop...gee wonder why, said no one ever. beware, the boutique may look nice, the website and signage in the three locations, may say all natural products... they say and print for all baths stating "we use all natural shampoos which are gentle and safe for all animals of all ages"...lies, lies, lies. i am fairly new to the area and brought my two maltese dogs in for grooming appointment. i was first told to come get them at 12:30. i waited until 1:15 and found out the reason it took 45 min. longer as they had gotten shampoo in one of my dogs eyes, and were trying to wash it out of her eye and get the redness down. they did tell me and show me. by our dinner time, which was approx. 5-5:30 pm, my dogs eye was almost completely swollen shut, and she was in pain, and i couldn't even get her to eat or go outside. she was pitiful. i rinsed her eye out with lukewarm water and kept her close by me. in the morning her eye was completely swollen shut with puss, yellow and infection all around the outside and she could not open her eye and was in pain. i immediately called the vet and they told me to bring her in asap as you don't mess with the eye. the short version, i called hungry hound, the product they used, and use every day on every animal they groom, is not all natural the manager could not even pronounce the words to tell me so i could tell the vet who was asking to know what had almost blinded my dogs right eye. as the first layer of my dogs right eye was completely burned off and she had a massive ulcer on her cornea, and if i had not brought her in right away she would have gone blind later that day. the product they purchase out of georgia, states cleary on the packaging on the bottle - do not use near eyes, keep away from eyes, as it will burn!!! this is not an all natural product as they state they use. the product they purchase, which at this time i will not name, as i have contacted an attorney on all of this, is comprised of - tocopheryl acetate - this is a strong culprit of vaping associated with pulmonary injuries. sodium myreth sulfate - this is a two suspect carcinogen. sodium laureth sulfate - used in dish soap - i wouldn't bathe my children in dish soap must less their faces because of the eyes or my own eyes. vitamin a acetate one of the most important things on there instructions and products states: do not use near eyes, keep away from eyes, will burn! the biggest shock is the next week when shelley buckner came back from being on vacation in mexico and called me , she had no care in the world for my dog, and in the end told me i had signed a waiver and she was at no fault and was not accepting any fault. i have no words. my answer was, yes i did sign a waiver, as i was a first time customer, and i signed a waiver to have my two dogs groomer, bathed, nails, trimmed, hair cut, ears cleaned, but i did not sign a waiver to have my dogs eye burned, and almost gone blind. shelley buckner owns three boutiques and a mobile grooming business, and not only has false advertising, but is using products that will cause your dog's eyes to go blind, shelly buckner the owner has no concern or care whatsoever about animals. read more

Brought my pup in for nail trim for the first time since a big box store turned us away. Greeted by staff, and then by a groomer who was very interested in my pup getting to know her and our story. I've been a customer since 2005 and it just keeps getting bigger and better. Started out buying my food, treats and toys here - and when they added grooming, I brought my two Cocker Spaniels here as well. This is not your typical dog grooming place. It's more like the kind of salon where I would go to get my own hair cut.. a dog spa! My dog has an appointment and gets the groomer's full attention during that time.. usually about two hours. I pick her up as soon as she's done. No worries for me about her spending hours, unattended, in a crate while the groomer tends to other dogs. And no worries about her freaking out. If a dog is nervous or uncomfortable, I've seen a groomer take extra time to reassure him or her and help calm them down. Debbie does a fantastic job for me and I've watched the way the other groomers work with their clients and the results and they're fantastic, too. It's not just grooming and food - it's overall wellness. Shelley and her team have an amazing depth of knowledge about food, treats, supplements, homeopathic and holistic support for dogs. I trust the brands she carries and I trust her advice. If I run into a problem with a food, I let her know and she takes care of it. Sometimes a manufacturer will make changes in their process and Shelley always lets me know if and when that happens and offers suggestions about how that might impact my dog. The store has expanded recently, giving them additional room for supervised play dates and now offers additional chiropractic services by a licensed veterinarian. And how I wish my dog would be willing to wear the clothes that they sell! Great colors, fabrics, sparkles! I have to admire these on the rack.. or buy them for my sister's dog!
