Upon arrival, the heat was not on in our room (March - 30+/- degrees outside), it was 59 degrees…read moreinside. We turned up the thermostat and when we were back that evening, it was warm. We discovered by unplugging an alarm clock that was going off around 2:00 a.m. that the light in that plug had electrical tape all around the end of it with wires poking out. We unplugged that too. We woke to 62 degrees in the room although the thermostat was set on 69 degrees. The outlet on that wall wouldn't work in the morning, although it worked the night before. We had to move the coffee pot to the opposite wall to use it. We packed up and left around 9:00 and our room was already unlocked (it was a code to get into the room). I left a note on the desk but haven't heard back from the motel.

I walked into to the front desk building and was so tired that I didn't see that TV above the customer service desk with the self check in instructions, and I stood there for solid 15 minutes waiting for a employee to comeback and check me in and eventually noticed the TV instructions oops....... Oh well

A very good place to stop in on if you are going fishing in the Adirondacks. Has a comprehensive stock of flies, rods, reels and equipment. There is also a lot of spincast items as well.

Hidden gem in the heart of lake placid! We decided to take a break from hiking the high peaks with…read moreour 9 and 12yo kids and rented a boat. FYI, they only accept cash or checks. I was a bit apprehensive since we are boating novices, having only used a motorized boat once before. Turns out we had nothing to worry about. We were given a pristine, spacious pontoon (called the Bentley, if that tells you anything :), and the operator gave us crystal clear directions on how to use it. The person helping us also gave us a map of lake placid and pointed out good areas to stop for swimming and fishing. My kids had the time of their lives on the water. The operator was kind enough to suggest bringing one of their floating tubes and a fish net, all for no extra charge. I thought we would only be on the water for 2hrs at most, but we ended up being out for more than 3. The kids said they could have stayed out on the lake all day. We did not catch any fish but we all enjoyed the beautiful view in our clean, spacious pontoon. Given our inexperience, this excursion could have easily gone south, however Captain Marneys clearly cares about its patrons and goes the extra mile to make sure everything goes well. We will be back!

Nice and relatively easy hike with a beautiful views of the pond for about half the trail…read more This is a 3 mile loop trail with about 3-4 steep ish parts that might get your heart rate up a bit but for the most part the path is flat and good for easy walking. Dogs are allowed but must be on leash. Lots of people fishing! In the beginning there were a lot of people walking but as we were getting close to the end of the hike we didn't see anyone. Check this spot out! Its fun, easy and a good way to spend some time outside this summer!

This is a gorgeous waterfall and swimming hole about a 45 minute drive from Burlington, VT! My…read morewife, two teenage sons, mini-poodle, and I came here in July 2024 on a hot summer day to cool off for an hour. Lots of pluses. First, it has a wide receiving pool area that is conducive to large groups and is more kid-friendly than other swimming holes (such as Warren Falls). Second, parking is generally available on the side of the road above the falls. You can descend along the second pathway down which is less steep than the first pathway. Third, dogs with a leash are allowed in the area. Would strongly recommend bringing water shoes (river shoes) if you don't like the pain of multiple rocks on your bare feet. Also, it tends to be a bit more quiet from 3pm-4pm, but got crowded when we departed at 5pm. Overall, this is a great place to experience a swimming hole in Vermont - especially if you are staying nearby in Burlington, VT.

Burton lsland State Park has to be the ultimate in the camping experience !…read more I have frequented many parks over my lifetime, and Burton Island is among the happiest in my camping experiences . There is not one draw-back that l can think of here. It has epic beauty. The trees and forests with lake views are magnificent. Everything is sanitary. Vermont people are exceedingly clean and conscientious about their surroundings. Camp sites are pristine. Restrooms are equipped and clean and accessible. If you are counting on an amazing camping trip, look forward to visiting Burton lsland !

As we are driving home to Boston we are feeling incredibly thankful to have visited Burton Island…read moreState Park. By far our favorite campground we've been to. Park at Kill Kare State Park and take the Island Runner to Burton Island, about a 10 minute ride. The ferry crew help to load your items onto the boat and you can pay $10 to have it delivered to your site.  Upon boarding the ferry, crew member Morgan welcomed us and gave us an overview of the Island and how everything worked. She recommended alternative swimming areas and prime sunset viewing spots. Morgan remembered us on our way back a few days later. She really made our visit that much more memorable, and the rest of the staff were super friendly as well. The island is equipped with showers & bathrooms (don't forget quarters!), trash & recycling recepticals, water spickets, kayak & canoe rentals, and weekly nature/survival lessons for kids. There are a few hiking trails and even some secret spots where you can post up and hang on the water for the day.   They offer traditional tent sites and lean-tos - some of which are right on the water. We plan to book one of these next time. Wood is available for purchase but be sure to ask for dry wood depending on recent weather conditions. The best spot about BI is the store, which is stocked with pretty much everything camping-related: beer & wine, drinks, snacks, ice, souveniers, etc. The store has a small kitchen with a grill and they make sandwiches and sides cooked to order. All of it is reasonably priced, and they accept credit/debit cards. Overall this experience was a very unique one but extremely rewarding. I highly recommend visiting Burton Island!!!

It's perfect for relaxing and immersing yourself in the outdoors. The area can be a little busy during summer weekends, but it doesn't typically attract a huge crowd, making the area quite peaceful. If you're around Indian Lake and wanted to squeeze in a small hike, it's the perfect place. It is a short drive from Lake Abanakee, with the way there, quite scenic.
