We unfortunately arrived after the visitor center closed but called before it closed to ask for the passport stamp to be on a piece of paper and left outside for us and they DID!!! Also Included was a brochure with two stickers of the local wildlife. The horseshoe crab is the official marine animal of Delaware and plays an important role in Delaware Bay ecosystem. Also a sticker of a red knot. It's one of the longest annual migrating birds on Earth traveling up to 9,300 miles and during their spring migration most of them can be found in the Delaware Bay region. It was nice to enjoy the auto tour. We did hike up to one of the observation decks for a video and view but it started to rain so we took advantage of the paved auto tour. Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge protects one of the largest remaining expanses of tidal salt marsh in the mid-Atlantic region. The refuge, located along the coast of Delaware bay, is mostly marsh, but also includes freshwater impoundment and upland habitats that are managed for migratory birds and other wildlife. Established in 1937 as a link in the chain of refuges extending from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. It is primarily a refuge and breeding ground for migrating birds and other wildlife. The value and importance of Bombay Hook for migratory bird protection and conservation has increased through the years, primarily due to the management of the refuge and the loss of high quality habitat along the Atlantic Flyway.  Very happy we came today. However the one bridge is very narrow and you have to move to the side if someone comes. There's a playground and picnic areas with grills. Word of caution, a lot of people fish here, including off the bridges. Make sure you're alert.

Not sure if the fish are plentiful or not. I find it to be a quiet place to read a book from time to time or just to sit in my car and just relax with lunch or something (like I did today). This park is nothing grand to see. In fact, I have seen the park with derelicts and with children. I don't think I'd want my kid here if there are folks hanging out of the car and sleeping (like I saw earlier today). I can not say that I found any swing sets or anything for the kids to play with anyway. Dover could really stand to clean up the trees and shrubberies in this park. There are areas that are picturesque (as shown). As stated, this is an ok park, but there are FAR better parks that represent the City of Dover better than this park. For five days, they considered whether to approve the new, stronger central government proposed at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia the previous summer. Finally, on the 7th, the delegates unanimously voted to ratify the United States Constitution, making Delaware the first state to do so. Delegates gathered at The Golden Fleece Tavern, the same place where the state assembly sometimes met. The history guides were very knowledgable and I loved that they had folks dressed up and walking around to allow you to time travel a bit and to see the area from the perspective of the past. Great for kids, families, tour groups, etc.

This is the nicest park in the area, for sure. There are a bunch of fields for soccer, baseball…read more.. and other sports that I've seen played (frisbee). The fields are always taken, though, by leagues. It would be nice if there was a track here and an outdoor basketball court. There's a recreation center in this area that is free to residents of Dover, and $3 for non-residents. They have schedules online on when they have open gym for basketball and volleyball for youth and adult. It's never packed and the front desk receptionists won't let you deviate out of their schedule even if the gym is ghost empty. Definitely should allow for more flexibility because the schedules really suck.

So while we were sitting around the camp fire we both heard this loud kinda like a horse was snorting and stomping. Actually like 100 horses. And we were sober! I grab my flashlight and this thing was playing cat and mouse shit with me going from one side of cabin 3 to the other. But the one time I peeped it's hairy foot. Then came around and sure as shit it's BIGFOOT LIKE 8 FOOT TALL AND JUST MASSIVE. I SCREAMED LIKE A WARRIOR AND IT JUST RETREATED INTO THE WOODS. WE RAN IN CABIN 2 SO QUICK. THEN I STAYED UP ALL TILL NEXT MORNING ON BIGFOOT WATCH. JUST TO MAKE SURE IT WASN'T GOING TO MESS WITH US. WE HAVEN'T BEEN BACK SINCE

Nice and free historic site of a childhood home for one of the nation's founding fathers. It's off…read morethe beaten path, but it's a big property. The visitor center has a small exhibit and an introductory film which is nice but the guide prefaces by saying it "focuses too much on John Dickinson" (?) The exhibit focuses more on the family and the enslaved/servants who lived there, which really rounded out the property, but we did come here because we wanted to learn more about John Dickinson. No gift shop, which was disappointing. The tour itself was very informative, and there was a big crowd visiting when I did. Again, the tour seemed to want to downplay Dickinson and his role in the American Revolution. Likely because he thought the colonies weren't prepared to go to war, he abstained from voting for independence, he is less remembered than other Founding Fathers, but I came to learn about him, and the guide wasn't all that interested in talking about him and what he did accomplish. Still, the furnishings were nice, and we got to learn about Dickinson's father, his wife and family, and his brother who all lived there with a focus on the lesser-known residents. I think that could have all been balanced better. The view of the river is lovely, and there are some out buildings and a garden to stroll through. It's a nice outdoor site, and for free, it's still a good site to visit to see history being preserved.

The…read morehouse was interesting to see, and there were a few pieces of furniture that I loved- such as the rope beds, the chair that was oversized, the large loom, and the travel clock that one of the Dickinsons took with him when he traveled. The guide was nice and interesting. That is saying a lot, because I can get bored very easily. She spent an adequate amount of time in each room. Before we took the tour, we had to see a movie, that was about 15 minutes long, mostly about history. We were the only people there, and I got up during the movie and looked at the other exhibits in the room. I would say travel here if you like history or old houses/furniture.
