Well your never going to believe this but on December 7 2023 me and my wife stayed in cabin 2. While there were no other people in any of the other cabins. So while we were sitting around the camp fire we both heard this loud kinda like a horse was snorting and stomping. Actually like 100 horses. And we were sober! I grab my flashlight and this thing was playing cat and mouse shit with me going from one side of cabin 3 to the other. But the one time I peeped it's hairy foot. Then came around and sure as shit it's BIGFOOT LIKE 8 FOOT TALL AND JUST MASSIVE. I SCREAMED LIKE A WARRIOR AND IT JUST RETREATED INTO THE WOODS. WE RAN IN CABIN 2 SO QUICK. State parks isn't really a park anymore if it comes with trails and a lot of wild growth to where it's just wilderness with walking paths. At least that's what it is to me. I was fortunate or unfortunate to be here at the Killens Pond state park on a balmy winter day in January 28 2023 for a low key running event that uses the park's trail system as the course. We were out in rural Delaware and there's nothing like being out in the wilderness. With that said, the circumference of the park itself was about 3.12 miles around thru their trail system. You could definitely get lost in the wilderness here if you aren't too careful, especially without a light at night. That happened to me but fortunately, I had a light which was my phone. The trails itself was well maintained and the scenery was nice and gorgeous for that time of year. I was genuinely surprised that it wasn't snowing or had record low temperatures that weekend I was there, especially in the winter months. I guess being Delaware is close enough to the ocean, it gets by without real winter white stuff on any given year. The park itself is maintained by the good folks at the Delaware state park system. The park opened up for us around 8am that day and it was a nice day to be had. No rain just a lot of fun and miles around the state park perimeter thru the trail system. The entire trail system showcases various views of the lake. Not until you see the cabins that you'll be in full view of the lake and of course when you're traversing over the aluminum bridge. The lake was calm that day and the sunset was inspiring over the lake. It was definitely a highlight of the day in my short stay here in Delaware. The overall experience here at the Killens Pond state park near Harrington, Delaware was nice although eventful. I didn't know that there was wild animals creeping around here. I guess I was just that naïve to think that nothing is out there, especially at night. Yup, I was attacked in the dark by a raccoon that was probably protecting its young when I happened to be walking on the trails at night. No bites or scratches just lucky to get out of that situation unscathed without needing medical attention. The trails look so different at night, but I found my way out with the help of fellow runners. Once I got to the aluminum bridge for the final time of the night, I thanked everything that is holy that I was safe and sound. It was nice to see the cabins, which marked practically halfway along the course that circumvented the park itself. I knew that passing that halfway point was a mental game that keeps me going in this park. For the most part, though minus the incident, I I am happy that I came to Delaware and this park to do my running events. Well, this is a state park, but be fair warn that anything you do at night is very questionable. If you have to be out on the trails at night, just be aware that raccoons and other wildlife are out there. I should know I got encountered and attacked by one. Killens Pond State Park is located in Harrington, Delaware. Its entrance is about 6 miles from the casino on Corn Cribb Road in Harrington. The main entrance has a guard gate and a large parking lot for park users. There is a small parking lot next to the aluminum bridge for people who do boating on the lake. Not sure if the park charges fees during the winter months, but the guess it was included with my race event registration. At least I didn't have to pay additional during my time here. Best to check the official park website for the full details of parking and the price of admission before heading on over. For the most part though, the experience was better than the incident. While it was unfortunate what had happened to me, it's a lesson to anyone and everyone that we live amongst wild animals, even in state parks. And so, best thing to do to access the park is to have your own vehicle for pure convenience. There is Amtrak service I nearby i think, but it travels north to Wilmington DE before it branches off to the other cities. And so, if your travels takes you to this slice of paradise, come for the love of trails and all things nature. Just be aware of things if you walk around in the dark. Carry a light! 5.0 stars for the overall experience, the incident notwithstanding. Support local! A+ read more

We just enjoyed a two night stay at Killens Pond SP Campground. We had Site D-1, which is in one of the improved loops (water and electric hookups). We are tent campers, and there were several other folks in tents on Loop D, but also a number of RVs. There is a separate tents only loop, Loop G, but it is farther from the bathrooms (latrines are by the Loop G parking lot) and you have to carry your gear in (They do have some wheelbarrow style carts there). So, here are the pros and cons: Lovely park with a path all around the 55 acre lake. Loop D has a boat dock for kayak and canoe access. The bathrooms were really kept clean by the Camp Hosts. (I can't remember ever seeing them cleaning campground bathrooms several times each day). Sites are level and really nicely shaded. The camp store & hosts sell firewood ($6 per bundle) and ice for $3 per bag. Our camp host, Tom, delivered the firewood to us in his golf cart. Nice family camping--quiet hours were observed. Cons: Not too many. Site D-1 backs up to a couple of sites on E loop so we were kind of surrounded. Flies--our citronella candle and bug spray were no match for the numbers of flies (not biting types, but annoying at the table). People next door to us put a screen house over their picnic table. We did not rent canoes or kayaks and we did not visit the nature center or water park. read more

On vacation on a hot day in the area and found this place on line, headed out to go visit so the kids could take a quick dip in some water... Was met at the guard shack by a ranger or person who works there and she told me all about the water park (we got there later in the day and didnt have a reservation - again, was on vacation and not familiar with the area and knew nothing about this place) Paid my entrance and was told drive down past the water park and there is a beach/lake area and the kids can go there. I drive around (cant find it - have to drive back to ask where to go) then go back down towards the lake area, change the kids in the car (it was hot, this wasnt an easy task) get out and start walking down this path only to get to the end of this little land area to find tons of signs that say NO SWIMMING... Ummmm, This isnt what you told me upon driving in, I mean I dont mind the $ donation, hoping all monies go to good causes anyway, but still, You just told me I could get my kids wet (as they were all talking with her as well) and now Im on this grassy area and there is NO POSSIBLE way they can get wet here, so now I drag them back to the car and they are miserable at this point and Im pissed as a parent. So yeah, this place was pretty and the water park place looked cool, but I mean you could have just LISTENED TO ME when we spoke and not just tried to rush me on & take my money! Would probably not come again if back in the area, because just writing this, Im all angry again! read more

Overall, Killens Pond State Park has a very nice camping area. I stayed here just one night prior to Memorial Day weekend. It was peaceful and not too crowded. I have a 35' travel trailer and was able to fit in my spot on the B ring just fine, but there wasn't much room to spare. The campsite was nice and clean. It wasn't quite level, but nothing terrible. There seems to be a lot to do. Several activities are posted. There are well-marked hiking trails around the pond/lake. There is also another part of the park for picnics and day activities. The bathhouse could use a little TLC, but that's about the only "bad" thing about this park. I'd definitely recommend Killens Pond State Park. It's a very nice break from the city! read more

It's got a decent sized water park for the kids, and a lovely hiking trail that I trekked today with my baby joggin stroller. I went here after my husband Conner passed away it was his favorite spot to take my Best friend Susan she loved my big ole teddy bear so much it !! I love my friend she's always bin there for me I'm happy her n my husband had such a great relationship while I was gone but so sad that he's gone but good news Susan is pregnant!! I have been to many different state parks. Killens pond is my favorite one to camp at. They have everything I look for in a campground, spacious camp sites, nice scenic hiking trail, nice playground for kids, close to shopping, cabins aren't rustic, and now they have a cabin that is pet friendly( my dog like camping too!) I used to do the tent camping but ever since I rented a cabin, that's my way to go. They have a stove, microwave, sink, cabinets, full size fridge, full bath, kitchen table with 4 chairs, screened in front porch with Adirondack chairs, and a picnic table and fire ring out front if cabin. Cabin area is quite and just a short walk to a dock to fish. I used to go to the water park but not anymore, there are just way too many kids that come from day camps and it gets overwhelming. read more

Website for reserving a campsite is horribly constructed & confusing, which led me to reserve 1 day later than I wanted. I called to scoot the 3 days back by one day - the campsite was still available. But, according to the lady on the phone, in order to make that change, I have to reserve 3 additional days in front of the days I want, which means I need to reserve and pay for SIX days vs the 3 I originally wanted. "I don't have control over it sir, it's how the system is built". Pshyea. Not staying here or using DE state reservations again. The website - which apparently no one has the power to override - lead to a ruined weekend, missing out on spending time with family by one less day. read more

Absolutely beautiful! This park was a great find. The fees are more than affordable, even for out-of-staters. There is plenty to do- fishing, boat / canoe / kayak rentals, shuffleboard, frisbee golf, hiking trails, camping, and our personal favorite this trip- the water park. We spent about 4 hours at the water park. It has a section for babies / toddlers where we spent a lot of time. It has 2 kid sized pools- one with 2 frog slides and the other with a tunnel slide and pipes with waterfalls and fountains. Perfect for my 3 year old. The main pool has a mushroom fountain, lilly pad walk and other things for bigger kids, although I don't think it was more than 3 or 4 feet deep. It was more for cooling off than actually swimming. There were also 2 larger water slides that were 27 feet tall that we didn't try because the kids were too small. Everything was clean, there were plenty of seats in the shade and the lifeguards were very attentive. They were actually pretty serious about enforcing the rules ( no t-shirts/shorts in the pools, no food or drinks no kids over 5 in the toddler pools) but being veteran rule breakers, my husband and I were able to smuggle in and consume a diet pepsi from the concession area. There are shaded picnic tables just outside the gate for those who wish to bring their own lunch. all of this for only $3 per person!!!!! I can't wait to go back when I can actually camp and spend a few days. read more

I took my sons camping here this last weekend. The tent camping is "primitive", which means you park your car about 50 yards from the sites and pack everything in. The sites are situated in and amongst mature pines and soft woods, each with a picnic table & fire ring with a heavy duty grate for grilling. There is a large field next to the site loop that you can walk all the way around and end up down at the pond. The pond is surrounded by a nature trail that is very family-friendly. We walked around checking out the cabins down by the pond - very nice - reasonably priced. We will definitely come back and rent a cabin with the whole family. The park is not far from the beaches and we wandered down by Slaughter Beach, which is more of a lapping waves/lake-like atmosphere. Then, we took the 50 minute drive down to Rehoboth Beach for a spell. All-in-all, a great experience. My only comment on the park for overnight stays is that it is in close proximity to major roads. You will hear trucks jake braking and motorcycles all night. Not like being way up in the mountains. Enjoy. read more

I have camped in Canada, Pa, Nj, Nc, Md and never once had an issue. BUT here in Delaware at there state parks. Not the case! The rangers at all 3 parks I have camped at, are power hungry. They complain about EVERYTHING!!! Rude & ignorant. Mind you I'm camping with my family (2 kids). Not a group partying and acting a fool. Burning too big of logs, burning branches that have fallen from the storm over the weekend, using cardboard to start our fires. Accused us of cutting trees down, the logs I brought where OBVIOUSLY cut with a chainsaw. Did you hear a chainsaw????? RIDICULOUS!!!!! I WILL NEVER!!! GO TO ANOTHER DE, STATE PARK CAMPING!!!! read more

On a recommendation from a friend we decided to take the trip down to this park for camping since fires were banned in NJ due to the dry weather. Wow are we glad we did! We stayed @ site 15 on the G Loop which is the parks primitive area. While we do alot of backpacking we do enjoy some easy camping from time to time with the car not too far. The campsites were very roomy and laid out with alot of trees and bushes between you creating privacy which alot of campgrounds lack. There are plenty of hiking trails around, bathrooms and showers just a short walk away. If you have kids there is a large field and playground. While we did not visit the water park I hear it is also very nice. If you are looking for a well maintained campground with plenty of things to do I would highly recommend. read more

WORST CAMPING EVER! I have camped all over the US. From Yosemite to the Poconos. This was the worst family camp experience. We left early do to the various issues. *No swimming in the pond *Tent camp sites have no wheelbarrows for walk in...but the cabins do. *Rude Rangers envading camp sites at night, not announcing their presence and walking all the way up to your tent. (filing formal complaint) Many unhappy campers. *Terribly maintained port-o-potties Tent sites are way to close to each other *Bath House has no parking at or near it...so you must walk from wherever your site is and back....it is not acceptable. You'll need to shower again by the time you get back to your site! *TICK CITY! REALLY!!! Each of us had more than 20 ticks on in 3 days. Poor kids! read more

Pros: Campsites are a good size and have a ton of shade. A lot of different activities and nature trail is nice. Affordable Cons: only 1 bath house for the whole campground if you want to be close get a site in either c or d loop. Showers are annoying BC you have to keep pushing a button for water. Water park is neat but was packed and not very clean. A bandaid floated by and there was a big section of hair weave laying on the ground. It is also open to the public, which I did not agree with. ***if you forget something there is a Walmart in Camden about 10 minutes away. read more

This is a worst place I have visited the water park is not so good, unfortunately the rules and employees are annoying they're not allowed you to go into the water if you're not having a swimwear, every corner pool you go they said you can't be there you can't sit in the pool you can wear shorts, shirts or t-shirt and however mens need to take off their underwear and just wear their soft short... it is a place to play not to feel uncomfortable for me I have the bad experience in this place read more

LOUDEST STATE PARK/CAMPING I HAVE EVER BEEN TO!!! DO NOT choose circle A! There is only one bathroom/shower area to service the camping area and Circle A is the furthest from it! Additionally, it is right next to the pavilion. Both days we were here, there were large parties with BLARING music. I felt like I was at an outdoor music venue. Called the front office to complain and they said they would send a forest ranger through. A half hour later one finally showed, drove through then drove off. An hour later and the music is actually louder!! Only 2 very small docks to fish from (fits about 4 to 5 people cramped). Canoeing and paddle boats were nice. Campsites very crowded, no privacy. read more

We just came back from a much needed trip to DE. We camped at Killens Pond campground for 2 nights. There are pros and cons to the campground: Pro: Well shaded campsites with a lot of trees, nice hiking trail, easy access to a fishing dock, open fields for the kids to run and play (but still close to the campsites), nice little store stays open until 9:30pm, and the playground was a lot of fun for the kids. We seen a lot of different types of birds. Dog friendly throughout Cons: The bathrooms. We stayed in loop A. The portable bathrooms were a MESS! The kids wouldn't even go in there. They clearly haven't been maintained in quite awhile. We had to drive from loop A to loop C to the real bathrooms, which were in pretty good condition. But we liked loop A because it was close to the playground so we wouldn't necessarily want to camp at loop C. The rules state dogs must be accompanied by owners and on a leash. Our weekend neighbors didn't get the memo. We listened to their dog bark for 3 hours straight. And it ran to our site, off leash, multiple times. We didn't take our dogs so we could relax. So we felt cheated in that sense. And the other neighbors didn't get the memo to keep it quiet. We heard them yelling at the kids for hours on end. I get it, we have kids. They don't always behave. But it was constant. And we came to relax, which was hard between the dog barking on one side and the kids screaming on the other. The campsites are definitely closer together than what we are used to. The waterpark was fun and pretty cheap at $5/person and free parking (because we were camping). They say no outside food or drink, but we seen people walk in with coolers. I wish I would have known. I paid $9.00 for 3 chicken fingers and fries and waited 45 minutes for the order. They definitely need a better system for the food. They are still doing rennovations and two big slides were not open yet. The leap pads were also closed because the rope wasn't there. I don't have a toddler but that part of the water park looked like it was really fun for that age. Lots for the little ones to do including a couple of slides. Our kids are between 7 and 9 and they had a great time at the actual pool. Overall, I would recommend and will go back. The fishing was great. We caught a lot of fish and we seen quite a few turtles. The grounds were clean. And we really had a great time on the walking trail. read more

we staying in cabin #6 from 6/30 unitl 7/5. The park is beautiful...but it costs you to do just about everthing....my only complaint...BED BUGS!!!!!!! I got home to what i thought were a bunch of mosquito bites...turns out...its was bed bugs. I called the park to let them know and the lady (Kathy) told me no one else has complained and that someone else was already staying in the cabin. There is nothing she can do and will notify the "higher ups". What I thought would be a nice little get away is going to cost me a fortune to get rid of theses things!!! I now need to buy new sheets, pillows & possible a bed..I also have to get my house bombed. I think this is ridiculous!! I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN!!!!! read more
