A short walk away is the bath house facility, which is clean and well-maintained. Also closeby is the firewood shed and the camp store (both cash only) which sells snacks, sundries and t-shirts. The park itself also has hiking trails and Atkins Arboretum - a gorgeous nature preserve with its own trails to enjoy. We spotted a pileated woodpecker, a downey woodpecker, and blue jays during our exploration.

The rangers drove by regularly to check on things. I would not choose Site #33 again, solely because the view there is mostly of the base of the big blue water tower. There is electric on sites #32 & 33, however, if you need it. Those two sites are closest to the camp host site.

Electric hookups in Butterfly…read moreloop, clean, hot showers, cabin rentals, and on-site firewood make this a comfy spot whether you're vacationing or just passing through. A paved health trail, multiple playgrounds, and a little lending library (books ranging from the Magic Treehouse to Bill Bryson and MFK Fisher) make this a family-friendly spot. The amphitheater view of Watts Creek was a great spot to recharge watching fish jump, hear frogs, and spy a lizard or two creeping the trees. Denton has groceries and other amenities within driving or biking distance, and The Martinak Boat and interpretive signs were neat. Alas, the nature center by the pavilion was closed during the week, and Martinak is rehabbing trails and the boat launch--no sunset views from the Point Trail at present. The park is at least up front about these two bummer's and hopefully work will be complete soon. We still has an excellent camping experience despite the construction. Use the dump station at nearby Tuckahoe State Park as the Martinak dump station's closed. Bring a kite to fly in that nice field by the park entrance, and enjoy bird watching. Woodpeckers, song birds, river raptors, even a blue bird appeared in our short stay.

I grab my flashlight and this thing was playing cat and mouse shit with me going from one side of cabin 3 to the other. But the one time I peeped it's hairy foot. Then came around and sure as shit it's BIGFOOT LIKE 8 FOOT TALL AND JUST MASSIVE. I SCREAMED LIKE A WARRIOR AND IT JUST RETREATED INTO THE WOODS. WE RAN IN CABIN 2 SO QUICK. Seriously my current favorite stretch of trails in the state of Maryland, you have the option of going to either vista(we did both when we were out there and added a few miles on another trail) and both views are awesome. Be prepared for some good elevation climb, I clocked our highest gain of being 1800 feet - felt hard core. Just doing either one of the trails will be a good trek and not overwhelming for any novice hiker. Doing both might be a bit much for those not well versed in walking for really long periods of time. Dog friendly, but please leash your creatures. All it takes is one friendly unleashed dog to run up to a not friendly leashed dog and then everyone's trail experience is ruined. We finished just shy of 15 miles for our day, and felt great! Annapolis Rock is the steeper climb albeit shorter at around 2.2 miles out then 2.2 miles back(4.4 mile hike). Washington Monument is an easier trail though it's a bit longer and around 3.5 miles out then 3.5 back. Highly recommend, super easy to find with the parking strip right off the road!

The worst though were the ticks we came home with. When all was said and done, we counted over 20! ticks (most of them attached) on us. Given the danger of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses, we will think twice about hiking Okie anytime soon.

They look like the white tail deer we have in Michigan but they are similar to the white tail deer but closer related to the elk family and have a white bottoms not just a white tail like the deer. Small in size. Today on our drive here we thought we had seen deer but deer bed down in the rain and these were running about. Now after this refuge and learning about the sitka we are sure that is what we had seen. This place offers a paved auto tour. There is a $3.00 entrance fee to drive the tour. Not everyone has a fee but this one does and it's posted when you come in. The visitor center was open until 4:30pm today so we just made it and received our stamp. Even though they also provide volunteers for Eastern Neck (weekend only) they did not have the stamp for the passport book so that was disappointing. No worries there was a lot to enjoy and be thankful for at this stop. Definitely a good display of many educational opportunities.

This is a hidden spot in Delaware and its so beautiful. You won't find many people here but you will find your perfect quiet place whether kayaking, biking, crabbing, hiking, or swimming ( public boat ramp). The observation tower is the best view of the Assawoman Bay and wildlife . You will see lots of bald eagles, river otters, giant woodpeckers , blue heron, egrets. SMH why all those cars are sitting in traffic to go to the beach when you can go to the bay ? It's completely free ...lots of fishing and crabbing , sailing , paddle boarding and don't forget to bring the dogs because they are allowed here!

They have four trails, blue, yellow, white and orange (which is the Conestoga Trail). We hiked the yellow and blue. Each is on either side of the creek. The trails follow the creek out to the Susquehanna. When you are nonspot hiking takes between 1-2 hours to finish the whole thing. It is so beautiful here. The path directly follows the river and it varies in difficulty from flat ground to stepping over rocks to boulder climbing. It is fantastic! You can cross various fallen trees to get to the other side of the creek (it is safe the trees are stable and huge). So peaceful and quiet, until you hear the many waterfalls and rapids! Definitely going back to cheek out more trails. Only downside is limited parking. Went on a cloudy day.

The Map Legend at entrance did not have a legend that we saw so distance was a guess. Overall, nice park, be back in the Summer.

Having found the occasion, I discovered the park was free, had some nicely kept facilities, and more paths than I had time to go through in bad weather. A variety of environments from swamp to beach await. There is too little public land on the bay, and this was one of the larger stretches in the area. And hey, you need to get out of the car every now and then.
