The aquaduct stretches over 400 miles. There are so many spots that people are allowed to pull in…read moreand park. My husband loves fishing at the Aquaduct. He has his spots. We join along every now and then. He'll go right after work, sometimes early morning, sometimes night fishing. Today we tagged along. I don't like to stay too long at the aquaduct because there are no restrooms and no shaded areas. Also the aquaduct is at a slope, so we have to be careful, especially children. You'll find hooks, glass and who knows what else on the floor so be careful! But I do love going with my husband. We'll take our camp chairs, some snacks, water and we just chill.

We just wanted to play a new course that was challenging...well, we got what we were asking for. The thing that brought us in was the length of the course...lots of par 4s that stretched 500-600ft. As the name suggests, it's very flat and if you don't throw very far, you may want to kill yourself. As a course it's not that difficult. There's some technical shots to be made, but at the end of the day if you can stay low, controlled, and fly far, you'll do alright. The trickiest parts of the course are placed around the creek that runs through the course. I almost lost a disc on hole one cause I ran my upshot too far. You'll encounter the Kern River on later holes and it gives you some of the best views in the park. While we came on a cold winter day, the park felt like a picturesque fall day with brown leaves all over the place and barren trees. This course is definitely worth a road trip if you wanna experience something a little different and challenging.

Suicide Flats DGC is located in Hart Memorial Park on the extreme northeastern section of…read moreBakersfield. It is one of two courses located in the park (the other course being Shark Tooth Mountain). Suicide Flats is an 18 hole course laid out on mostly flat grassy land dotted with big and small trees that form variable obstacles. The course also does include some holes with water hazards. It's an extremely long course booking in between 7,000 and 8,000 feet with a few par 4 holes and the rest being par 3. Made it out on an early Sunday morning around 7 AM. With only one group in front of us (I had my old man along from the round), it was relatively quiet and laid back. The main downside to this early morning round was the extremely wet grass. According to some locals we talked to after the round, it's wet in the morning all year long...leaving me to believe that getting a dry round in only happens mid afternoon or during the hot months. But who wants to play here when it's 90 plus degrees? Navigating the course was a bit tough as I forgot to print out a map (used my phone to bring up a picture of the map) and some tee signs were missing. Tee pads were all concrete and with the wet grass made for slippery drives. Here's a few other things I noticed during my round : - If you have a good roller throw, it can come in handy here on some of the longer and more wooded holes. Although on mornings with the grass being so wet, I'm not sure rollers are that good of an option. - I was beyond done by the end of the round, being how the course is extremely long. If you decide to tackle both Suicide Flats and Shark Tooth Mountain in one day, be ready for a workout. Especially since I hear Shark Tooth is more a hike than a stroll in the park. There is camping nearby, so I would suggest maybe playing one course a day or at the very least spread out your rounds throughout the day. - For some odd reason, there are a lot of Farrel cats and peacocks wondering around in this park. - Water hazard holes could lead you to lose discs. Water on some (in particular Hole 6) are quite deep and murky. Lost a yellow blizzard Katana that was floating on the surface not too far from land...did not chance getting anywhere near the water since it looked scummy. In all, Suicide Flats is a challenging course that will force you to step up your drives and power out your throws to meet the demand of the distances on many holes. I will admit that this course wasn't too exciting to play. Very little as far as variance of elevation and layout of the course. If I didn't have my dad with me, I would have tackled Shark Tooth Mtn but for what it is, Suicide Flats is worthy of at least one round of play.

The lessons, once they get started, seem to be fine. But the facility has no bathrooms, very little…read moreparking, and nothing resembling adherence to a schedule. A little organization would go a long way. Today I missed my daughter's ride. Today was a "show" where they charge each rider $100 to compete with their teammates. It seems like it wouldn't be too difficult to make a schedule of when each group would ride. But they don't, or won't, or lack the requisite skills to get it done. I won't be back.

Great trail for a quick hike…read more If you're able to survive the first 14 miles of the Kern River Canyon with your lunch in your stomach, you're almost there. Exit the 178 at Kern Canyon Rd and go for approximately 2.5 miles to find the trailhead. The trail is maintained by Kern Back Country Horsemen of California. Judging by the tracks in the mud, mountain bikes, horses, and cows all use the trail, but on this particular day I just saw people and their dogs. Although the trail is 7 miles in length, we only did 3.5 miles. We started off at an elevation of 2400' and made our way up to 4200'. We encountered four streaks that were easy to cross by jumping on rocks. The trail itself was all uphill and for the most part had wonderful scenery.
