We enrolled our daughter in Huntington because she was a grade level behind in reading, which impacted all her subjects. Our daughter completed a competency test so they could see what level she was performing at. From there they reviewed a plan to not only bring her up to her grade level but advance it. It was an 8-month program and after the first month we saw significant improvement. They worked alongside her teachers. They had fun challenges and reward that made her have a love for learning. We did the initial program and stayed for a maintenance program where they included homework help. Highly recommend them. They even offer financing options. read more

Roughly 8 years ago, we enrolled my granddaughter, Morgan Houston Shepherd with the Elk Grove location. Going into her freshman year she was struggling academically. Wanting to play D1 sports she knew she needed to make changes and needed help. After her assessment, Huntington put together a program for her. With their help in a lot of hard work on Morgan's part, she was able to graduate Pleasant Grove get a full ride scholarship to Long Beach State and play D1 soccer. Next week she graduates Long Beach State with a 4.0 GPA and with two more years of eligibility she will be going back to play soccer for them and get her Masters in the fall. When my 3rd grader began at Huntington, he was testing at a 1st and 2nd grade level in math and reading. By the time we ending his program, he was up to 3rd grade standards and approaching 4th grade in just a matter of 8 months. The staff at Huntington are absolutely phenomenal. They are patient, knowledgeable, and provide great suggestions and recommendations. They communicate exceptionally well with parents and are very responsive. They even attended my son's IEP meeting with the school to make sure he was fully supported and their observations were incorporated into the recommendations for the school. They make learning fun for the kids by doing fun competitions or having them participate in games for prizes. The monthly parent meetings are great because it provides an opportunity for parents to not only hear how their kids are doing, but also see where they are measuring based on tests and work completed. It's even more evident in my son's most recent report card where he's improved in every subject. A special shout out to Ms. Mariel! She is incredible and Huntington is so lucky to have her. I could not have asked for a better support system for my son and would undoubtably recommend Huntington to anyone. read more

I don't leave reviews very often, but when I do it's because a product, service or an establishment has gone above and beyond my expectations. Huntington Learning Center is one of those establishments. I started my daughter at Huntington, Elk Grove in the fall of 2022. Being that my daughter was a child growing up in the age of the pandemic when schools were online, I was a nervous, anxious parent - feeling like my daughter was falling behind academically - before finding Huntington. In less than a year of being at Huntington, my daughter has excelled - not only meeting, but beating my academic benchmarks for her. She's currently one and a half grades above her current age level. As a parent, I am ecstatic about this! My daughter is reading, writing and enjoys learning. This was made possible by the knowledgeable and friendly staff and teachers here at Huntington. I highly recommend them for any parent who is looking to help their children excel in school and gain confidence in their abilities. Seeing how my daughter is doing so well at Huntington, I will be continuing her with the learning center in addition with her regular school. I can't thank Huntington or the staff enough. In November 2020 my sons grades were low D and F, started Huntington in January 2021 now their A and B, honor role, high citizenship scores for participation in class, star scholar award, great academics and 5 pillar award. I highly recommend to be aware of all the charges that isn't in their policy and you won't find out until it's the end or when refund your money back. List of thing to be aware of shortage on staff it's still charged, There is a credit card processing fee (3% that we paid initially to your bank) of $58.33, and a check processing fee of $45, Nothing in the policy statement say how long it will take to receive refund ( month 1/2 refunded back to me) Another thing is to be aware of is they will be lenient with A minimum of 2 hrs of notice for you to make up session until you take your child out then they will charge you for the whole session missed as the policy do say notice of 48 hrs notice if missed. I am a returning customer but Tony is new owner. They as a business owner is financially robbing their customers just be aware of how they calculate everything which they do not give a brake down of everything it's kind of seems like they are hiding something so this is the reason why I give them a one star is because people need to be aware of this instead of blindsided! As for the tutoring my child wasn't there that long enough to see if it worked or not but be AWARE of progress review meeting that discuss your child improvement and where need work they only give one assignment of each subject that show how they are doing IF you a parent who wants all assignment that is being worked on, you won't get it, they say it's to much assignment and paperwork to keep up with so they record the work that day and throw all work away. Also, they don't let you in the back to experience of how there Tutoring session is being done. This review is based on our experience with enrolling my son into Huntington. My son made it as far as the assessment which we scheduled with Tony. I will be the first to say that my son needed quite a bit of help in the mathematics department. We had heard good reviews when it came to Huntington learning Center and we were hoping to have a wonderful experience. Sadly, once the assessment was complete, Tony contacted me for a follow up to do a recap on my sons assessment. During this follow up we discussed hours and availability. I was very forthcoming with our home and custody situation with my son. I let Tony know that my son has a lot going on, on top of having ADHD and going from household to household, but that we were willing to make it work because my son needed the extra help and attention. Tony reassured me that they have had similar situations before and that he was positive that we could get my son into their schedule at Huntington. Unfortunately, when it came down to the suggested days and times, Tony let me know that they were going to decline my sons enrollment because we could not commit to 5 days per week just yet. While I made this clear prior to paying for the assessment, I felt comforted by what Tony was reassuring me with as far as accommodations went. Attached is the text message that was sent declining my sons enrollment. I typically wouldn't post a review like this showing texts and whatnot, however in the event that they are a learning center, it felt as though this was more about money and because we could not commit to the recommended hours, they would be losing money accepting my son as a client. Take your money elsewhere and try grade power learning. They will work with your schedule and needs while making sure your child gets the attention they deserve. We are with Grade power twice a week for 1.5 hours each session and my son loves it. read more

My son was behind in the Language arts and wanted to take all honors classes in the 8th grade. We agreed as long as he agreed to bridge the pretty big gap in English Langusge arts. He spent four mornings a week at Huntington Learning Center the ENTIRE summer (except for vacation weeks off) and never complained. He enjoyed all his teachers and enjoyed his daily "word of the day challenge" with Doug, the centers director. That all said he is thriving in all 8th Grade Honors classes this year with English being one of his highest grades. The last meeting was a bit bitter sweet as we all feel that the staff became part of our family as we worked together to help our son be successful. read more

This review goes off to the staff and Doug at Hunington in Elk Grove. We were going crazy that our very smart daughter choose to fail her seventh and eight grade year. We spoke to Doug intensely about strong motivations for for our daughter. We attended the homework workshop which helped a lot. She was at a sixth grade level in math,reading and writing. She excelled to almost a tenth grade level and she just started her freshman year in high school. The staff was very accommodating with our daughter's schedule changes. We liked the awards that she brought Home frequently and the understanding our daughter has gone through some sever problems. We like to thank The two ladies that paid close attention and build a rapport with her. She is 9th grade and slowly raising her grades. She has college on the brain and a smile on her face. My family experience with Huntington learning center has been great.we have two of our children attending Huntington learning center, and they have made huge improvements in their academics.I recommend that parents give them a chance. I am so pleased with our experience at Huntington Learning Center in Elk Grove. From Doug to his awesome staff and tutors. My son was pretty far behind when we started and by the time we finished he was all the way caught up and a few months advanced into the next school year. I can see a huge difference in his confidence when it comes to reading and he is now interested in books that were extremely difficult for him a few months ago. I honestly don't know if we would have made it through last year without them. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Rhonda H's review was exactly right. $40+/hour/per child for 2 kids during 2006-2009. I was willing and able to invest this money for my children if it produced results. My daughter was in H.S. and son in middle school. There was NO one-on-one coaching, tutoring, and mentoring, only workbook lessons and someone correcting each one along the way, just like Rhonda said. They spent 99% of the time working independently. My son who is now in college and home for holiday break said it was like detention, I wish I had listened and probed further before forcing him to stay in the "program." To top it off, they don't allow re-testing to assess any progress and results until after several hours and lots of money spent. So you keep burning through money until HLC says they can be re-assessed. When we met with the person running the place, we were made to believe there would be one-on-one coaching, tutoring, and mentoring. Had they been up-front about what we would receive, I would have bought age appropriate workbooks and assessment tests from a teacher's store. Huntington was a money grab. My daughter just graduated from her program today and she is so proud of herself! She is a much more confident student. She wanted to keep coming! That says a lot! We came to Huntington to strengthen my daughters reading comprehension and math skills. She was a decent student, but her assessment scores indicated that she was falling behind in these areas, particularly reading comprehension. We started looking into a program for her and found Huntington. We had a groupon deal for the assessment, which made starting the process so much easier. We met with Doug and he was great about discussing the results of her assessment and prescribed what was needed to get her caught up to her classmates (she even surpassed that level). He answered all of our questions and was very welcoming. We didn't feel pressured. The teaching staff was amazing, and my daughter is sad to not see them each week now. After hearing the commercials for HLC over and over on the radio, we decided to check it out -to help our son who was struggling a bit in high school. We had our initial meeting, which was very lengthy and informative. Shortly thereafter our son went to the facility for benchmark testing and evaluation. Once the results were calculated my husband and I were brought in for another meeting to discuss the plan of action to improve our son's studying and testing skills, along with his overall level of academic development and confidence. We signed the dotted line and the sessions began. What we had hoped (and were lead to believe) would have been one-on-one coaching, tutoring, and mentoring, coupled with workbook type lessons...turned out to be only workbook lessons and a "proctor" in the room to correct each one along the way. We learned from our son there was VERY little one-on-one time spent with what HLC refers to as" teachers" and most of the two-hour sessions he spent working independently. Needless to say we were extremely disappointed when we realized we were paying thousands of dollars for our son to work through various workbooks, at various levels - on his own. There was no coaching, tutoring, or mentoring evident throughout the program Did we notice a difference in our son's academic performance and confidence after nine months, which equated to over 200 hours spent at HLC, - not so much! To add insult to injury, when we returned the customer feedback survey, upon completion of the program, and included much of the same information included in this review - HLC was silent. My daughter was behind in Math her sophomore year of high school. I hired and paid tutors but she was still receiving F's on test. I looked at many learning centers and decided to go with Huntington. They did a full day of testing with her in all subjects. This was a very eye opening but also hard to hear her results during our meeting with Doug. Please keep in mind your child is not in this meeting. They do a very good job of ensuring the student always feels confident. We found that the reason she continues to do bad in math was because she was behind about 4 grade levels. The next thing that was hard to swallow was the price. Yes, it is expensive! But I will be the first to say, my daughter just finished 1st semester of her junior year and received a B. She was so happy with her results and so were we. I will say, although it is pricey, they did an amazing job with my daughter and we have noticed an improvement in not only math, but her study habits overall.
