It was an individualized program which we like. To start, they gave her mock tests for both SAT and ACT. Based on mock test results, and an analysis of her skills, they decided she would have a better chance for a high score on ACT than SAT. My daughter was able to finish the ACT with a near perfect score after only 25 hours of tutoring. We are so happy with our decision. Hi My children are…read moreages 11 and 12 and both are enrolled in Kumon Closter. My wife and I are both Ivy League educated and have Doctorates. Both our children hail from local private schools and we live in the area. I have had both children enrolled in different after school tutoring and advanced educational programs for years. I must say that I am very happy with Kumon's old school nuts and bolts way of teaching. The children master the basics and then progressively advance toward Calculus. Math is Math and many of the newer methodologies of teaching attempt to avoid the mandatory work that must be done to succeed in Math. These new style methodologies attempt to explain the concepts with "modeling" or "estimation" as a way to avoid the real and necessary work to attain excellence in Math. You cannot cheat the work, Math is Math and doing it again and again, recognizing your mistakes, correcting your errors and accepting the task is the only way. There is a saying "how do you eat an elephant? the answer is one bite at a time." This is Kumon and this is Math. The curriculum is great. The teacher is patient and sweet to the children. The director KIOWA is a very good sales person but is not in touch with what the tutors are actually teaching. I was very transparent and informed her that my son needed testing accommodations and she assured me that they could provide these accommodations but after 3 bouched practice exams my sons accommodations were not met and as a result the practice scored were erroneously very low. Causing them to focus on the wrong strategies and topics and also up charging for hours he didn't need. I discontinued my contract after 3 weeks and with private tutoring (25% lower cost) my son did very well on the ISEE exam. I would recommend private tutoring or MEK viewing. Don't use C2 Montvale.
