My sister in law and I had a beach day and we stopped at Hurricane. We got there at 11:50 and was told they open at noon. The host told us to sit and he will get us service they are opened. My sister in law was able to get a drink from the inside bar and the bartender was very chipper. The manager personally walked over to us with our menu and thanked us for our patience. Our waiter was nice. We shared the Sunshine Salad, Lobster Claw, and Stone Crab. It was so good. I'm a seafood girl it hit the spot. This popular multi-level restaurant in St. Petersburg is right across the street from the Pass-a-Grille beach. They are known for their fresh seafood and rooftop sunset views. We sat on the first floor outdoor patio at this casual family friendly place. We shared the Grouper Paradise with broccoli $40.05, Boom Boom Shrimp $15.50, and Mac and Cheese $9.05. The grouper with a crab cake and many shrimp was plentiful and good. The service was good. I ask for an extra plate for sharing that took a while. The view of the Gulf is somewhat obstructed. Hurricanes is a great spot to watch the sunsets! It's your typical beachy spot with that laid-back vibe, but the view is incredible, especially from the rooftop. Drinks are great and not bad priced at all for waterfront. Service was good, and it wasn't too packed when I went. read more

I came to Florida to go out deep sea fishing and because I flew I knew I couldn't bring my catch back with me so I wanted a place that would cook my fresh catch. A client of mine had suggested I check out Pass-a-grill while visiting so I found The Hurricane to serve dual purpose! I made reservations online, however it wasn't terribly busy on a Monday night so we did not wait even tho we arrived 20 minutes earlier than our reserved time. Now, for whatever reason God was looking out for us, we were blessed to have Amanda as our server. Not only was she incredibly accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable, she gave us the exact amount of attention we needed! The recommendations were perfect and the conversation was easy and friendly. As a matter of fact I got a great hug before we left! *Chef's * The food prices are 10/10, quality 10/10, quantity 10/10, wait time 10/10 and the service was 12/10! The restaurant is directly across from the beach which is beautiful just before dusk! I can not recommend this place enough. I only wanted 1 lb of my fish cooked but I had 3 lbs with me so I told Amanda to offer it up to her co-workers as I have no way to store or transport it back home to Missouri. A guy working with her took me up on my offer so I was glad to see my fresh fish did not go to waste! The grunt fish I brought was cooked to perfection, the flavor (I got fried & blackened) was amazing and I could not have been happier with everything from beginning to end! It's one of our go to places and they have their own parking lot, because parking can be a problem. It's across the street from the beach with indoor and outdoor dining plus a bar on the roof. This time we had the boom boom shrimp, which was terrific. I had never ordered their grouper sandwich. There were 2 choices the original or petite. The original was huge! It hardly fit in the bun and although it was messy, it was delicious. You can pick a side and I chose onion rings. My wife loved her shrimp tacos. We were too full for dessert, which we usually order the key lime pie. read more

I visited Hurricane Seafood twice on a recent girls beach trip and everyone enjoyed their meals both times. My sister had the lobster roll twice and loved it. I had the fresh grouper Reuben and the crab melt sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed both meals. The service was great; we interacted with many employees and they were all friendly and helpful. They offered opinions when asked and were great about special requests. The dining room isn't anything special (it does have A/C), but the covered outdoor seating is fun and I'm sure the rooftop is great. We'll definitely visit again! read more

We walked in at lunch time with a wedding rehearsal party of 18. Had no reservation. They sat us immediately and were SO accommodating. The food was great. Paid more than $30.00 for wilted lettuce topped with undercooked blackened grouper dressed with watered-down ceasar dressing. No sweet iced tea because "the nozzle for the decanter was misplaced"{huh?}, so I ordered unsweet iced tea which was as weak as water! They told us multiple wrong prices for the menu items then the manager came over and argued what the waitress got wrong. The margarita tasted like straight mix and was $12. After a day on the beach we all wanted hamburgers. Hurricane wasn't our first pick but they did allow dogs which was great. The server was friendly. The appetizers were all very small portions but they were made well. All the burgers were over cooked. We asked for medium but we got well well down. Some of the fries were also undercooked. So a trip to FLA is not complete without a fried grouper sandwich from the Hurricane. I visited the area as a child in the 70s, lived here in the 90s, and have been visiting my family here since the 00s. The blackened Grouper Sandwich outstanding--fresh, flaky, perfectly cooked, and easily one of the best on the entire Gulf Coast. this would be an easy five stars. Unfortunately, a handful of things keep dragging the experience down to a (still very good) four. First, the drinks are shockingly expensive. Expect to pay $14.50 for a standard margarita broken elevator that I'm told is in order to be fixed. mobility-impaired, have a stroller, or just aren't up for multiple trips, the rooftop is simply not an option. Bottom line: The views are spectacular, the grouper is worth the trip, and the vibe is pure laid-back Florida--when everything clicks, it's magic. But until they fix the elevator, bring back at least rethink those drink prices, it's a strong four stars instead of five. Come for the sunset and the sandwich. read more

Worst Thanksgiving dinner experience ever. I had a reservation and expected good service. We were rushed and rushed through every course. The wrong starters were delivered to our table. The wrong vegetable was served with my entree. They ran out of pumpkin pie halfway through their dinner service and gave us frozen apple pie instead. They advertised that the full menu was available and then they charged extra if you ordered something from the regular menu because it was a holiday. To start, we had the Seashore Loaded Tots, which were flavorful and loaded with crab, the Grouper Nuggets, which were light and perfectly fried with a thin and crispy batter that didn't feel heavy or oily. The clam chowder had so much flavor. The fairly priced Lobster Roll (hot/CT style) was phenomenally, simply flavored and overflowing with chunks of lobster meat. The Mom's 1945 Crab Cake Dinner had two good sized actually Maryland style crab cakes with only cracker crumbs as breading/filling. Simple and delicious just like in Baltimore. Their award-winning Key Lime Pie was utterly decadent and the perfect mix of sweet and tart, topped with a yummy key lime drizzle. Everyone enjoyed their dinners thoroughly. The server, Heather, was knowledgeable about the food, drinks, and restaurant history. She was friendly, accommodating, quick, and really made a family meal even better. We sat outside and watched a stunning sunset over the beach mere feet away as enjoyable music played around the casual, colorful, and comfortable environment. The food was delicious. It was very busy on this beautiful Friday afternoon and we waited an hour for our food, but our waiter, TJ, kept us informed and was apologetic.
