Love this tattoo shop! Everyone there is so friendly, positive and welcoming. Great atmosphere, great music. Went to Carlos with a small and silly but sentimental painting my 6 yr old daughter did and wanted it turned into a tattoo. The actual painting was done in 5 minutes with a sharpie and two basic colors in watercolors and I just expected the tattoo to be a simple little thing. Carlos took my daughters painting and recreated it with such care and attention to detail. He treated it like he was recreating a priceless work of art. I knew Carlos was a great artist but I never expected anyone to treat this job with such love, care and detail. He spent an hour meticulously drawing out each individual brushstroke in her painting and hours applying layer over layer of colors. The resulting depth and detail makes it look like he actually painted it on my arm. It turned out beautiful. I didn't want to be that weirdo that cries but I felt like my daughter, her painting, me and my resulting tattoo were treated with such honor and respect. Recent trip to NY and had a spontaneous itch to get some eye of Horus tattoos with 2 friends. The shop itself is clean and no complaints about atmosphere- we were probably the last ones there so it was pretty empty. Our artist was super sweet. BUT!!! As you can see this tattoo was done horribly and not nearly deep enough for the ink to stay in finger skin (pic is fully healed, about 2 weeks old). There were several what I assume to be employees there but they dumped myself and 2 friends with our artist. As I'm talking to her during the tattoo, I find out she's an apprentice who's been at this less than a year (no biggie) and had never tattooed a finger before (kind of a biggie!). At no point did anyone come over to mentor her or check her methods. One guy came over once and just commented that he had been doing fingers all day. 2 of us had finger tattoos and they're both worse than prison tats. For a $150 min I would expect at least SOME quality from this shop. Still find that ridiculous- even in places like Vegas minimum is never that high and this place was not located anywhere special. We tried to contact them and phone numbers were not working. Email was sent with no response. None of us signed anything at intake either. The one friend who got hers on her ankle seems to have had better luck, and the immediate finished product on the fingers looked nice initially. It's just clear that they were not done properly. My gfs and I went in there sat june 18th for quick nyc vacay tattoos. What was supposed to be teensy quick tattoos ended up being 3 hours of our night in an empty studio. The artist they gave us, we later found out was a newb and it was her first time doing fingers, but we were already being inked so too late to back out then. After three hours and being charged a min of 150 with no check ins or guidance of more senior tattoo artists we ended up with our tatts. Which at first glance were decent considering they were so simple. We are both two weeks in and realized the job was terrible, and I mean looks like it was done in my garage by my four year old. the lines are squiggly and half the tatt is non existent bc she didn't go deep enough. I've sent three emails and one phone call (to a changed phone number) to try to recover any funds since we don't live there or signed any type of waiver to no avail. Want To Pay For A Slightly Modified Google Image? You have come to the right place! Before I begin my review, I would like for the reader to be aware this is not my first tattoo and not my first time going to hustlersparlournyc. Last week I had a consultation with Pierre Lotusonyx(@lotusonyx) for a special request. I have always wanted an artist inspired tattoo and thought that given my birthday is around the corner that I should treat myself to one. Last Halloween I got Boo from Super Mario tattooed on my left arm at this salon. Given this is the go-to spot for many of my friends, I figured it was time to try them out with something simple. My request to Pierre was to render a full tattoo (images with a background...not to be confused with random shading) that merges with Boo. I made it clear that he 1. Had no time limit to draw it out. I understand it may take a week or a few. 2. Had no budget. I know that the time he needs to draw plus the time he needs to apply the tattoo would take a long time. 3. Everything was up to him. (Full Trust) Only limitations, of course, is that is was on my arm, and Boo needed to be included Pierre told me initially to come the next day. I immediately pushed back and asked him to take his time so I can get the best quality & creativity possible. He told me to come the following week. I placed a deposit and went back to work for the evening. I messaged the shop on Monday to get a sneak peek at the work completed. I got a response the next day that it wasn't ready. THIS WAS THE FIRST RED FLAG. Wednesday rolls around, and I leave work early to ensure I get to the Parlor on time. I am greeted by Pierre, who sits down to show me the work completed on a tablet. My heart drops to my stomach when he shows me a random google image that was slightly modified. Think of a few of the Super Mario characters stacked up in a pyramid. I asked what his vision behind the tattoo (knowing I explicitly asked for him not to do this) was. He told me he was going to add some shading to give it a full look. I immediately responded by asking about the background I asked for. THIS IS WHERE THINGS TOOK A TURN. It was clear he had no idea that I wanted a complete tattoo and not just random characters on my arm. To make matters worse, he had no idea how he was going to merge my current tattoo with the one he threw together in 5- 10 minutes. I carefully explained why I was highly disappointed. As I began to walk through our initial conversation, I could tell he was starting to remember. He agreed that this was a complete misunderstanding and wanted another week to finish the tattoo. He also wanted to make sure that I knew the tattoo would be $1600, it will take 10 + hours to draw (makes sense) (which I didn't care because there is no budget) and I would need to pay for the time to draw out the tattoo (which also makes sense but why couldn't he say that the first time). The issue here is my trust is completely lost, and I don't work a regular 9-5. I can't keep dropping whole afternoons to get a tattoo. The timing also sucks because I have used all of my PTO, so taking a day or two off isn't optional. After explaining the circumstance, he apologized (which I appreciate). Since there was no way forward, I asked for a refund. It was shocking how quickly he said no. DUDE you literally did nothing. I get if you drew something I didn't like (In that scenario I would pay for your time & let you keep the deposit). You found a picture on google, forgot my requirements, and tried to keep me in the shop for 2 hours explaining where everything went wrong. YOU WASTED MY TIME. If anything I should get paid. Trying to find a tattoo parlor isn't hard but trying to find a talented tattoo artist is a needle in a haystack especially when you're getting a your first arm piece. I wanted to get a studio ghibli collage of all my favorite movies and getting the faces and details correct is extremely important. I spoke with Carlos (the only artist I've met with no tattoos) who was extremely patient with me and my questions. I was very picky on what characters I wanted and the details added on the tattoo. Sending him over 20 characters he was able to form the perfect collage with all the details I wanted to add. He was able to detect the smallest details making it perfect. When it came to the day of the tattoo, Carlos was very very professional. His station was clean and very organized. The atmosphere was awesome, love the decors and the wall paintings they have around the shop. Place was clean and organized. Not small and shabby. The place smells clean and a hint of butter. Staff were very friendly and outgoing. Every customer who walked in was greeted professionally and was very informative with every question being asked. When Carlos showed me the sketch I was in LOVE. The first sketch on my arm I was fine with it but because of my toothpick arms he wanted to make it perfect and redid it until it was perfect. The tattoo took almost 6hr. Pain never bothered me. I've notice how often he was changing his gloves, how organized, clean/ sanitized the session was and it made me feel comfortable. Needles were kept clean. He applied the shops "Hustlers butter" while tattooing and it was soothing making it feel less dry. I didn't want the tattoo to be in color and I asked him to make it look more of a sketch than a coloring book. The details this man sees is insane. The final result was stunning, jaw dropping. He gave me informative instructions on aftercare and checked in to see how my tattoo was doing. This is artist cares for his work and you can tell he loves what he does. My friends and family is in love with it and everyone who sees my tattoo stops me to gazed over the details. Compliments on his work. My husband and I are looking into getting more tattoos in the furture and finding an artist now won't be hard. I also recommend getting their "hustlers butter" for aftercare. This was my first time to Hustlers Parlour and I came via the recommendation of some friends of Facebook. The piece I got done was pretty small (see my photos) and fairly easy to do, so not much to write about in terms of technicality or level of difficulty. In total, it was probably about 30 minutes of tattooing and I paid $163 with tax, which seemed a little high compared to the original quote of $100. But it was definitely worth it. My artist was Pierre and he seemed like a pretty cool guy. He's been at this shop for a couple of years but has a lot of experience elsewhere. Super pissed about this place. I went there 2 weeks ago to get my helix pierced. The piercer was nice but he forgot to tell me that I had to wash my ear with warm water and salt. I got an infection, had to go back there a week later to take the piercing out because it was killing me. He said I was not cleaning it the right way but I am 100% sure I did exactly what he told me to do and my friend confirmed he never mentioned anything else than their disinfectant. They did not offer any partial refund even though I returned the jewelry. I got three finger tattoos done, which cost $326. After a couple days they began the peeling process and underneath the layer that peeled had literally zero pigment, so I spent $326 on temporary tattoos. How does an experienced tattoo artist fuck up like that? Then, I went back and had Wei, the original tattoo artist touch them up. Now it has been a few more days and one of the tattoos is once again peeling, leaving no permanent ink behind. How do you fuck up a tattoo twice? I have a other tattoo on my finger that was done elsewhere and it came out perfect the first time. I have never experienced a tattoo that literally peeled off leaving nothing behind. I would not recommend this artist to anyone else and will be reaching out for a refund via the Better Business Bureau. I'm absolutely disgusted. read more

I recently went to inquire about getting my septum pierced, and decided to do it right then and there. I am so happy I chose to come to Hustlers Parlour. I did a bit of research beforehand and knew not to choose a random, cheap place...it definitely needs to be with an experienced person! As I was staying in Williamsburg, I walked past this place a couple of times so thought it would be worth checking out. We walked in and were greeted with a friendly welcome. I was traveling back from NYC to Toronto later that evening via bus, so had a ton of questions about whether or not I should do it or if I would be really uncomfortable. I really wanted to do it and was told it wouldn't effect anything - she was right, I didn't feel much discomfort at all on the way home (no more than the usual discomfort of a long bus ride!) The piercing process: I won't lie, I was terrified of the pain. I get super chatty when I am nervous and Yolanda handled my nerves well. She informed me the most uncomfortable part would be the clamp, of course I was like, yeah right...but she was right! The clamp wasn't even that bad but the actual puncture of skin, I maybe felt it go in for a second, but it was pretty painless! Needless to say, I was relieved and happily surprised by the lack of pain! Would I recommend this place for piercings? YES! I had a great experience getting this piercing in Brooklyn and Yolanda was amazing! The price was worth it - 60$ US and I bought their vegan and all natural foaming soup which also numbs and soothes while healing, for 15$US. This 'Hustler Helper' is incredible for the healing process which, like all piercings, can be a bit uncomfortable. I am super happy with my new piercing...looks so great! :) I just might go back on my next visit to NYC to see about adding to an existing tattoo - their artist's portfolios look great! read more

Yolanda pierced my nipples. She was very soothing and calming and helped make the experience fun and enjoyable. She may have pierced one of them crookedly--I'll have to check when the swelling goes down. They weren't very good with privacy either. I'm pretty sure the entire staff and store customers got to check out my knockers. Personally, I didn't mind at all but I did ask for some privacy. I have always dealt with a lot of negativity in my life, and I wanted this to be something positive in my own way. When we entered Pierre explained the process and asked for the ideas. I've been wanting a tattoo that pays homage to Prince, but was hesitant to do it locally so on a trip to Brooklyn on Saturday, I stopped in to this shop. Brittany was so sweet and patient and quietly ran things the whole time. They set me up with Ryan. He spent time prepping his area and setting up, worked with me on what I wanted and was super excited to do the tattoo. We talked about Prince's music and influence and they played his music in the store for me. The whole store seemed excited about it. Because, Prince. The tattoo is breathtaking with Ryan's artistic elements like purple shading in all the right places. Everything was clean and ran smoothly. Obviously the tattoo is mine for life but so is the experience and I'm grateful for all of it. They were great and if I lived closer I would have all my work done there. read more

I do not recommend this place for piercing. I got both my earlobes pierced and wanted them even/symmetrical. When I pointed out the pen markings weren't the same prior to piercing she promised to correct it. She didn't and now I'm stuck with uneven piercings I paid almost $100 for. I didn't realize how truly uneven they were until I left. Anyone I ask notices and can see the imbalance. Very upset and will never go back. I could remove one and let it heal but I'm scared of scarring and would be bummed about the lost money. Whole process felt rushed. Would have preferred they told us to come back the next day if a half an hour before closing was too late to start. *Edited 8/17/16 - a little more than a week after the piercing* I wrote the review below right after I got my nose piercing about a week and a half ago. I gave this place 4 stars, but to be honest I'm tempted to say 3 because of some realizations after. I'm going to leave my initial review up however, because the things I said were true, but I just wish I had known what I was being given before it happened. Xyon gave me a nose ring that, as I mentioned before, was too large for me and had a ball at the end. It wasn't what I wanted and I returned to the store immediately after leaving to ask if it could be changed for something smaller but he said I had to wait 3-4 months. The more I lived with the loose/larger ring with the ball, the more I disliked it. When several of my friends saw the ring, they told me that I should have been given a smaller one to begin with or just a stud, and also that the placement should have been higher. I couldn't help but feel that if Xyon had given me these choices or explained these things about ring sizes/placement, I wouldn't have been unhappy with what he gave me. I called the store 5 days later and spoke to Simon who was amazing. He took a look at it, gave me a Hustler soap mix to use (instead of sea-salt and water like Xyon had said) and told me to use it over the weekend and return on Monday so he could change it out if things were healing properly. I went back to him two days ago, he changed it out so quickly and painlessly. I didn't want to complain about having to pay the full price again because I take some of the blame myself, but I have to say, I think it should be the piercer's job to make sure the customer knows exactly what (and where) they're getting into. Either way, I'm glad Simon was able to give me the ring I wanted and I'm happy with it, despite the lower placement and extra hassle/double payment I had to go through. ---Original Post: 8/10/16: This place is great. I am a complete novice when it comes to piercings but I wanted my nose pierced so I found Hustlers Parlour on Yelp. I had never even walked into a tattoo/piercing parlor before in my life (I was a toddler when I had my ears pierced), so I was pretty wary of what I might find. The store is really pretty, clean, and very inviting. I'd wanted to get my nose pierced for awhile but was too chicken to do anything about it but managed to get my nerves together and walked in this past Sunday. The shop was empty, thankfully. I felt too self-conscious of my naiveté and fears so was happy to be the only customer at that moment. Xyon came over right away and answered all my questions in a very non-BS and straight-forward way which I appreciated. He was direct, but polite and welcoming. He took me in and did the piercing right away - although it didn't quite work the first time! It was of course painful but I expected that so no surprise there. I had a mild panic attack right after but he was super helpful and sweet, explaining the aftercare more than once, telling me to breathe (lol), giving me candy, and letting me feel better before getting up. The ONLY reason I'm giving this place a 4.5 is because I wish I could've been told before the ring went into my nose that it would be a ring with a ball at the end, not just a plain ring. I might have opted for a stud for 3-4 months and then replaced with a thinner and plain nose ring instead, if I had known it wouldn't be flush against my nose and would have a ball at the end. It would've been good to know that before it went in, but I know I was a bundle of nerves and just wanted it done and over with ASAP so it was probably as much my fault as anything. read more

I just started my half sleeve at Hustler's Parlour with Raul. The whole experience so far as been great. Raul put so much time and attention into the drawing. For two months we went back and forth with each other in order to perfect it. Raul was very patient and attentive about what i was looking for. I spent a total of 8 hours in the parlour, and felt comfortable and welcome the entire time. When I came in for my appointment I met Yolanda. The first thing she said to me was how excited she was about the tattoo, and that she has been admiring it since Raul started drawing it. Shortly after I met Yovanni, and he also said he'd seen Raul's drawing and was happy to see it started. It was just comforting to come in and have everyone greet you in such a personal way, because they recognized the art you are there to get. You can tell all of the employees here are really invested in their work and love what they do. The owner, Richie, is also very upbeat and nice. Everyone was so friendly, kind, funny and comforting. Obviously, the most important part, I love the tattoo, I couldn't be happier with it. Raul did such a great job. I sat for 5 hours, and have a couple more sessions to go until it is complete. I was here once 2 years ago when it was still asylum and did my first tattoo, which I have been more than happy with. This time me and a friend decided to get tattoos when he was here visiting, so I took him back to Hustlers since my last experience there was so good. The guy who did mine, can't remember his name, was very nice and seemed professional. My friend got his tattoo from another guy. It has been 2,5 months and my tattoo is isn't healing properly. The lines are scarred and wrinkled. I went back to ask them about it and the guy who did my tattoo basically laughed at me and said I should just wait, and that there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. Not friendly at all, I understand that some people heal slower but I felt embarrassed for even asking and stupid. Let me tell you, it is two triangles, just 6 lines, nothing complicated, no shading or anything. I understand that the healing might take longer time for some but this isn't normal. I've asked for second opinions and they have been friendly and told me what might help me. I am so disappointed, my friends tattoo have healed perfectly while mine has gotten a little better with the ointment another, more helpful, tattoo artist helped me with. Be sure about your tattoo artist before doing a tattoo here... Would recommend going somewhere else. read more
