In preparation for selling the bike I traded to my son for a set of golf clubs, I took my 2007 Specialized Rockhopper Comp into their store for a "check up" and service. The service rep who waited on me was extremely courteous and helpful plus he provided me with some great selling info I needed to list my bike on craigslist and ebay. The turnaround from delivery to service completion was truly fast and they did an excellent job, plus they charged me "$0" dollars for this service since my son bought the bike from their store. Unlike last poster I had a fantastic experience learning about road bikes and found Brennan very knowledgeable and patient with all my questions. If you are committed to buying local this is the store for you...they stand by their product and you can return it if it's not right...they also tune it up for you free annually and give you discounts on accessories. Ever since I've moved to Bend I've been a Hutch's devotee. I walked into that shop on day one and have had nothing but stellar service, great products, fast turnaround on bike tuning and well, have made some lasting friendships with the employees. I dropped off my bikes yesterday for a spring cleaning and first thing this morning I got a friendly call from Chris reviewing everything that needed to be completed and an really reasonable completion time. I've gone in and had a bike fit with John Frey and spent ample hours looking at tires, frames, glasses and nutrition with the employees, each who sets aside their time to hang with me, even if they aren't going to get a sale. Worst ever attitude. A group of us - very experienced; mtn bike worldwide; ridden Bend before - came in to ask about trail conditions. We got referred to the acting manager, who told us everything we asked about was too technical or too bike-destroying for us. These were rides we have enjoyed before. He told us we needed to stick to Phil's. Wherever I travel, I have always made an effort to visit the LBS. However, this is the only shop I have ever visited that I would never return to. read more

I went to Hutch's to buy a few cleaning/repair items which included 2 new tires for my wife's road bike. My daughter suggested it because she bought her 5 year old a bike at Hutch's and were very pleased with the process. The staff was quick and friendly in helping me find the things I needed and when the cashier rang up the tires he said; "these are priced wrong - they are $5.00 less than marked". Really? Now that's honest! I'll return for sure! read more

We are bicycle touring the northwest and stopped in for some chain replacements on a Sunday afternoon. We called before we showed up to make sure they could accommodate us. I talked to Jeff the mechanic and he told me to stop in and he would see what he could do. Jeff was extremely friendly, as was all the staff in the store. After a short wait Jeff had our bicycles working perfectly for a fair price. If I lived here this would be where I had my bikes serviced. By the way, they have the cleanest bathroom I've ever seen in a bike shop:). Highly recommend them and especially Jeff!!! read more

Rented a bike here a few weeks ago. Found the bike and service to be excellent. Strongly recommend.

Might as well have been at a car dealership. "It's never just an oil change!" Felt nickeled and dimed and to boot, the guy at the register was a total @$$. I mean, if someone just drops two hundred bucks in your shop, you can afford to be a little nicer. First visit here, most likely my last. read more

Hutch's of Bend has been pivotal in developing Bend's now nationally famous bike culture. They sponsor a local team and club, weekly training rides, many non competitive supported group rides, mtb and road clinics for beginners as well as offering the best service and products in the business. Specialized, Giant, Cannondale as well as some boutique bikes, what more do you want? They have been my bike shop for nearly thirty years since they opened. They have ex pro riders working there but don't be intimidated by that, they cater to all levels of riders. They realize how intimidating bike shops can be for women so they have several women working there. read more

Okay, I love this store, but wanted to warn people to be wary. I put an orange Townie on hold til it could be put together. The next day , after a message left on my phone to call, I contacted them. I was told by the employee that 2 hours after I put it on hold it was sold to another person. I was appalled as I was going to buy it because I wanted to test ride it first, which I later had done at their other store (that one was PINK). I even had a rack from the other store sent to Hutch's so they would put it on for me. I called later to talk to John and he told me that the bike had been purchased earlier and the lady had ordered 3 bikes and so it was unavailable. Well, whatever the real story is, my Mothers Day was ruined because of this. The family bike ride cancelled. John did say he could get another in in 1- 1 1/2 weeks and he'd lend me a bike til then but, the principle of the whole story is why would I trust that that would really happen. I do love this store and the employees are very knowledgeable and their shops are some of the best, but in this instance I was so disappointed. Just wanted to put a warning out there, and don't be afraid to give them your business, but be wary if you have to put a bike on hold. I'd suggest you pay for it first. A lesson learned. read more

Terrible "cool guy" service. I don't get how they have so many good reviews. The West Side location has given me the cold shoulder repeatedly, and I know I'm not the only one. I swore I would never shop there again but was at the food carts next door when I remembered I needed tubes and a new headlight. Figured I'd give them one more shot at redemption. I walked in and was the only customer. There were a handful of people in the service area at the rear of the shop talking about a documentary they had just seen. I made eye contact with three of them. Np "hello" no acknowledgement whatsoever. I walked around the store a bit to check out the selection. No help at all. I walked up to the counter and had to knock on it and call out to the employees standing less than ten feet away from me to get a question answered. When they did it was clear I had inconvenienced them. Save your time and money. They mark things up higher than other shops (myself and a few other avid cyclists in town have done the research) and their customer service is garbage. Go to Sunnyside or Crows. read more
