The employee was kind, may not have spoke much English but I didn't have any difficulty with my transaction. I even asked if he had a bottled opener for my jarritos and he went to the back, grabbed his keys, and opened it with his bottle opener keychain. Very clean store, friendly staff, and nice selection of Latin products.

And THEN, I receive a Fraud Alert from my bank, advising me my card was CHARGED a $100 Preauthorization Charge!!!!!???!!! All of which was refunded, thank the good Lord.

On this visit, I was looking for a mix of random items: Italian dressing, travel-sized products, milk, and lawn and leaf bags. While I found most of what I needed, I noticed the Italian dressing on the shelf was expired, so I'd recommend checking expiration dates! That is something I sometimes forget to do when I'm in a hurry. My assumption is that it is post Christmas (12/28) so maybe they were waiting for a new shipment to arrive. It was the only one left on the shelf. On the bright side, I was able to snag some post Christmas clearance items, like Christmas cards, which was a nice bonus. Overall, it was a typical Walmart visit, with a few highs and lows. Nothing spectacular, but it gets the job done when I'm in a pinch.

The free wine day was one vendor from a place I've not heard of. Not a local winery. Was told they purchase grapes locally and vinify at their production facility. Cabernet and three sweet wines. Had a quick taste from a little plastic cup and wandered on. No different than wine a samples at the grocery store, and one indistinct vendor with prosaic selections. It is not the newest H E B and it is not the most updated, but honestly, that is part of what makes it so great. Even when it is crowded, you can still move around easily and get down the aisles without constantly waiting for someone to move their cart. A lot of the newer H E Bs have much smaller aisles, which can make shopping feel stressful, especially during busy times. That is never really an issue here. On top of that, the customer service is always great. The staff is friendly, helpful, and consistent every time I visit. Parking is also usually ample, so you are not circling the lot forever trying to find a spot unless it is right before a major holiday like Thanksgiving. Overall, this H E B gets it right. Great service, great products, and a store layout that actually makes grocery shopping easy and stress free. This location definitely deserves the recognition.

I had known about the historic location in Elgin that claims to be the oldest barbecue spot in Texas. They have updated their processes to keep up with the times and in the last 15 years have begun opening new locations throughout Central Texas, with one in the Co-Op District of Hutto. I have had plenty of barbecue in my time, from chains to Texas Monthly recognized and Michelin star winning locations. I understand that not all barbecue is the same, but I also understand that barbecue served all day like at Southside Market can still be good. I do not think that is truly the case, though. My first experience was when Southside Market catered a holiday party for my work. I thought it was alright, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt, saying that it was catered. You do not judge a meal based on it being kept warm in a pan that was probably cooked at 8 am that morning or the night prior. It is not the same game. I went back a few months later for a birthday lunch and got their combo plate with sausage and sliced brisket. My first thought: This tasted like it was catered. The Jalapeño Cheddar sausage was decent but tasted a little too smoky, and the brisket really did nothing for me. The side of potato salad was good, but you cannot mess up potato salad that badly. Their mac and cheese was good, I think. I do not remember it whatsoever. I went back recently after almost nine months with a desire to get a baked potato with chopped brisket for lunch. I am probably one in a million because they have steady foot traffic inside on a frequent basis, but I wonder if the name is doing all the work. The staff was great and the space is well done and spacious, but the food actually has to be good to make that a plus factor. I have no idea if the food is any better at their original Elgin location, but I would rather go to Smokey Mo's across the tracks in Hutto because the potato is a good size and the brisket had a good flavor to it. Here, I just was not impressed. I will not ever return unless I am invited with co-workers or something, and even if I am, I will debate the idea of saying yes.

While checking out I was advices they may not have any and I was a little taken aback because I checked the app prior to coming. The manager or lady at customer service actually took the time to go outside and check to see if they had any and found one and helped me with my purchase. I appreciate customer service and that was going beyond and above. I know sometimes the websites or apps don't match the inventory and I honestly didn't feel like driving to cedar park to check so thank you again for checking for us. I always enjoy shopping his location because it is clean, well stocked and organized but I've never had bad customer service. My produce and meats from here are great too!!
