Despite its rating on Yelp, we had a great experience with Hy-Line. We were able to buy our tickets ahead and reserve parking online. Parking was easy, there was a quick shuttle to the boat. Loading luggage was even easier - they do it for you about ~20min in advance and you collect it when you exit on the other side. The ship was on time, fast, not too choppy - I really feel like we couldn't ask for more. We ended up swapping our return to an earlier time and they were able to accommodate and print out new tickets. Recommended as transportation to Nantucket from the cape! read more

Located in the Nantucket pier, it sells tickets on the high-speed ferry to the mainland (Hyannis) and also directly to Martha's Vineyard (Oak Bluffs). We were taking the midday ferry to Oak Bluffs ($42 per person), but got there a bit early, so hung around in the Air Conditioned benches until the ferry was ready to board. The boat was pretty empty, so I had the opportunity to stand outside at the stern while the ferry was going at top speed, and it was real enjoyable experience (the air conditioning fans are right there, so you feel the warm air from that on your left, the passing breeze on the right, and a bit of sea spray). The boat can really go, and will take you to Martha's Vineyard in about an hour (cuts the time in half vs taking the normal ferry). It has two levels of passenger seating, with snack bar with alcohol and washrooms in the lower level. read more

The cruise was great! Quick loading and they were prompt both going and coming. Nantucket was awesome and worth the money. Things to note: off site parking is available at the transportation center for $17. A free shuttle service is included and is a short 5-10 minute ride. The cruise ship parking area near the boat is $28 and the other lots are $35. Masks are required if inside the boat, but not outside. This is an update to my 5 star review which is now a 1 star review. When our tickets were purchased we had a hard time deciding on our return trip time and the employee told us the tickets could be changed to any time we wanted, no worry, just go to the terminal and they will change the time for us. We changed our time to 2 hours later to stay for dinner. The ticket agent said no problem and printed us new tickets. We were happy and so was the pizza place who received our money. We noticed a charge to our credit card the next morning for $17 from the cruise line. Not once were we told that there would be a charge to change ticket schedules. Not when we booked the cruise or when we changed the time on our return trip. They never asked for our credit card either which means they kept our card on file. Overall: 3 stars, Captain's View: 2 stars. Basic, at times amazingly pleasant and at times unempoweredly rude ("that's just the way it works") ferry service from Hyannis to Nantucket. Frankly, since I think you don't have many options (perhaps Steamship Authority), I'll primarily review Captain's View here. The best part of this service seems to be the Bloody Mary's and the hilariously detailed bar rules they have (no doubles, one drink/person/visit) which seem to indicate that people party hard on this trip. On our 11am outbound plenty of folks were drinking the Bloodies, which looked pretty good, and a bunch of beers as well. On Captain's View, first I think it's -- unless you're booking really early -- available only when you don't need it, so if you're booking with a short lead-time and it's available, it's almost definitional that you don't need either the early boarding or the nicer seat. On our trip back, the rest of the ferry was no more than half full and Captain's View was packed. Adding a little to that was an off-duty crewman who sat in Captain's View only to be visited by his on-duty buddies having fun looking at SnapChat pictures or such. Adding the ambiance, I suppose, but not in the way you wanted. Captain's View provides two benefits: a nicer seat in the front part of the upper deck which affords, well, the Captain's view (which is nice) and early/priority boarding. The former is nice anytime, the latter can be valuable or useless or, in our particular case, useless when it would have been valuable. We had a party of 3. One person missed the outbound and took a later ferry. Rather than have him deal with that at the time of the outbound, they bounced **all three of us** at the "priority boarding" for Captain's View, requiring us to go back to the ticket office, pay them $5 for a no-show on one of three outbound tickets -- when he had addressed that with them (and they had to notice they were letting him on a later ferry). This bothered me considerably, not even letting, say, the two of us who didn't no-show board on time and defeating half the point of Captain's view. read more

i literally watched 16 ppl get on the stand by list two people walk in behind everyone that was friendly with the people working specifically the manager and they let them get on before people waiting iver 30 min before them. On top of that all they turned down the UPS workers that had reservations told it was cause they showed up to late for there reservation which was also a lie . I thought the whole experience was really nice. We paid for the close parking and were instructed where to go right away. Then we were asked if we wanted our bags check and we said we were not sure. He said ok, well let me know if you do. Now here they could have said all bags should be checked and that might have been easier, but no big deal.I will say the lady who does the cargo checkin was rather rude (we went to her window by mistake)but other than that it was great. We booked a round trip from Hyannis to Nantucket. While waiting for our trip back, I was unable to pull my mask down to simply tell my hearing impaired husband (who relies on lip reading). The attendant, Stephen, told us we would have to exit the building in order to communicate with him. This is against the American disabilities act and against Massachusetts government policy. The ferry left on time both coming and going. It does move along quite nicely. I would guess about 20-25 knots. It's on the expensive side though at $78 person. My only tip: if it's a busy week, choose the first parking lot you see instead of driving in circles read more

I wouldn't necessarily call it a cruise ship, more of a ferry. We took Hy-Line Cruises to shuttle us back and forth between Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. For that they do a very good job. The ships are big and air-conditioned. They arrive and depart on time. The bathrooms are very clean. The ship has snack options. Bought tickets for ferry and parking* online which I thought were a fair deal.... the other Parking around the port was same price or slightly cheaper but sketchy. Once we arrived to the ferry a uniformed attendant at the gate asked our name and confirmed our registration for both parking and ferry. I don't know why they have such bad ratings on yelp! We made our reservations for a day trip to Nantucket the day before. The tickets are expensive for just getting to the island but there really are no other options and demand is high so they could raise the price even higher if they wanted. Definitely get there early to board from Hyannis to find parking (which is also expensive). The staff was friendly and makes sure everyone is wearing a mask which is promising. The way back we tried to get on an earlier ferry because we had already finished dinner, the workers were putting us on the boat when it left the dock. They try really hard to get the standby passengers onto the boat which is very nice of them. They're operating with less passengers on the boat than they usually do which is nice to not be on top of other people. read more

From Nantucket to Hyannis,different story. Felt like a riches to rags there goes my happy ending country song nightmare!! Apparently there is a 'first class' on THIS leg of the trip. Something we knew nothing about. That ticket is $60.00 RT, OUR TICKETS WERE $90.00 EACH RT! So I'm sitting in crappy wooden slatted hard benches with moldy, rust windows why??? I asked an employee ( who stated ' I run the boat') what gives? He had no idea, but we could call the ticket office TOMORROW!! Well, maybe its the fact I've explored Nantucket in a downpour for the last 5 hours, but WTF??? How does that take care of TONIGHT??? I would NOT RECOMMEND THESE PEOPLE TO ANYONE!! Both my cruises to and from Nantucket were very easy and enjoyable. The ferries left right on time and arrived right on schedule, also. On the ride to Nantucket, we had blue skies and gorgeous weather so I sat out on the deck with my friends. We even purchased one of the $5 glasses of wine, which are generous portions! The way back happened to be a bit stormy, but the ride was still very good. I didn't get to try the 55-minute high speed ferry, but the regular ferry (at $45 round trip) was a decent price and a very nice one hour and fifty minute ride. read more

A++++++++ 5 stars!! I'm forever appreciative and have the upmost gratitude to the Captain himself and crew of Hy-line ferry!!! Will ONLY USE HY-LINE from now on!! On the morning of June 24th, we were left completely stranded. We were booked 2 months prior on the other island ferry The Steamship Authority that had horrible nationwide coverage accident where it ran aground smashing into the jetty rocks and injuring a large group of passengers the week before. While the investigation and repair was going on... they called to say not to worry there was a replacement ferry. .. well That was a lie..apparently somewhere between that phone call, and the day we showed up, they again had another issue.. NO temporary ferry now. After a 6 hour flight from California, and 2 hour drive, we arrived at ferry hours so we had time to spare before a family wedding in Nantucket we arrived early only to find the new surprise of NO replacement ferry working. So the 3 of us plus another 10 angry passengers standing there on dock with mouths open and tears were left completely stranded with the exact same story and lack of call. NO temporary replacement boat and worse, NO advance call or notice so we could make alternative arrangements prior to arriving... but instead a woman with a very shitty no care attitude of life happens, we'll refund your money attitude. As I live and breathe I will never take that competitor ferry again. So I know from all my previous trips There are only 2 ferrys that go out and without advanced booking sells out immediately.. which was confirmed as called Hy-line and were told they were sold out. Don't ask why but We went there anyways in a desperate attempt and while they felt remorse it was true they were completely sold out. 30 minutes later after Crying at the dock, and texting family the ordeal the wonderful captain and his crew made a special arrangement for us that would not only get us there but only 15 minutes late.. I could've kissed him!! Let me mention, he actually got us into Nantucket 15 minutes earlier than planned...this wedding event was saved!.. we love you! It didn't end there.. we sat downstairs and were greeted by the bartender Rich, who made the entire 2 hours the most hilarious, and entertaining 2 hours I've ever had. Reminiscing on Boston, Dorchester, and the hilarious culture and Boston ways made me laugh so hard, I didn't want the trip to end.. I live in California but originally from Boston and still have family there. He has all in stitches and getting off boat actually made me sad that we wouldn't see this guy Rich who completely turned our horrific morning around. When u meet wonderful people like this you just want to let it be known. People tend to always report the bad reviews, but its people like Rich and the Captain and the crew that alerted the captain that make Hy-line Ferry the most enjoyable experience. Word of mouth is powerful and you can be sure I've told everyone of the ordeal and how with gods help you saved the wedding and erased the tears. Ok, so I would never have gone on here at full price. And that probably means never again. Its not horrible at all but its just not worth $70 at all. By the time you pay for everything you could have flown to Florida and back. Anyways, we had a steep discounted first class ticket. It was nice and quiet on the way home, but going to good ol Nantucky, nope it was packed full of a tour bus group of about 40 old ladies and i couldn't even sit inside. If i had paid full price I would have been pissed. You couldn't move around, luckily I sat outside much of the time. George the bartender was lovely, and made a nice bloody mary ($6). On the ride from Nantucket to Hyannis, they brought out a cheese and cracker, fruit tray which was nice. They told us no carry on sized suitcases are allowed inside the cabin, that they would take care of it for us. But apparently they didn't enforce it to anyone else. Mmmkay. First class means private embark/disembarkation SOMEtimes and comfy sofas, chairs and tables, and not being swarmed with families with kids. read more

Hy-Line employs some of the least friendly, most condescending people I've encountered on Nantucket. In our attempt to leave the island this afternoon, we abandoned our taxi in grid locked traffic and ran down to the ferry in the pouring rain. Arriving 15 minutes before the ferry departed, staff members offered to take our bags and put them on the boat (super helpful, right?). However, once we tried to have our tickets scanned on my phone the EXACT SAME WAY they were scanned on our trip from Hyannis, I was told they were "not able to scan phones" and redirected to the ticket office to have them printed. While I went in to have the tickets printed, my family waited outside in the pouring rain and watched at least ten people board the ferry with their tickets scanned FROM THEIR PHONES. Inside the ticket office, a particularly rude woman told me I was late, marked as a no-show, and my tickets that I purchased ahead of time had been given to stand-by passengers. They refused to allow us to take our bags off the cart as we watched it roll by the office. No explanation was given for that. She never apologized. At this point, I was joined by my mother and we were both very upset at the ticket counter. Instead of being met with an apology or explanation for why the other passengers were allowed to board and we were selected to be sent back inside, Carol and Fav joined in on the party and began speaking to us with such disrespect I could not believe Hy-Line chose them to interact in a customer service oriented role. The three women actually accused us of LYING about other passengers boarding the ferry by scanning their phones in front of a packed ticket office. The very best part of this whole ordeal, was when Carol told me she was going to "DO ME A FAVOR" and not charge me an extra 20 dollars for no-show fees. She actually looked at me for a "thank you!" In the most condescending tag team, she and Fav started a pretty ridiculous chirping contest asking me if I'd rather pay the fees or let them do me a favor!!! As though not charging me for a penalty that I should never have incurred in the first place was appropriate! Thanks for the favor, Carol and Fav. You're the real MVPs. About a half hour later, while stuck waiting for the next ferry, one of the women came over with a clipboard and requested that I fill out an incident report.. yet another inappropriate gem from the Hy-Line staff. Consider this my incident report, ladies. Oh and hey Hy-Line... during our wait, one of your employees told another passenger right in front of us that tickets could be scanned from phones. I chose hyline to go to ACK from Hyannis. After walking around from 9:30 to 4pm we decided to see if we could change our ferry home from 10pm to an earlier time. My friend and I walked into the ticket office and there were 3 people working, 2 of which were occupied. The third, stared at us, didn't say anything, ignored us, then a minute later rudely asked "do you need something?" I said "I have a 10pm ferry to Hyannis, is there any chance I can switch my ferry to an earlier time?" He RUDELY said something along the lines of, "switching ferry times is something we can sometimes do." His words were very unclear, and I asked if there were any times earlier that weren't full. He said "I'm telling you right now, the 7:30 is full. You're not getting on that." I said "okay, are there any more?" And he told me "if you want to leave early you have to take the 5:45" ummm rude??? My friend walked over and said "is there any 8:30? I thought I saw it online" and the man at the counter yelled "IF THERE WAS AN 8:30 I WOULD HAVE TOLD YOU THERE WAS AN 8:30!" And a man being helped laughed. We left hopeless and unhelped. I am completely disappointed in the professionalism of this establishment. Stan in the ticket office has absolutely no idea what he is doing he made me buy 3 additional tickets as he couldn't figure out how to refund/switch them. Multiple times he directed me on to the boat to switch my tickets only for the people on boat to direct me back to the ticket office. They have no idea what they are doing and completely disorganized. Finally and the last straw of me writing this review is that after having to rebuy $120 dollar worth of tickets (due to his inability to refund) he wrote the destination backwards! Instead of Nantucket to Hyannis he wrote Hyannis to Nantucket. This caused further frustration and confusion for my young daughters and I. Do not come here if you can avoid it there are many other ferry companies on Nantucket Island that are a lot more professional. read more

Took their fast ferry from Hyannisport to Nantucket. It was a very effective way to get back and forth and the price was competitive. The times they offered were a good variety. If you're doing this on a vacation buy your tickets in advance online, they are busy. The boat had an outside deck on the back which was nice to get out onto. read more

Great customer service. They offer free carts to put your luggage on so you don't have to bring it on the boat with you. When you get off you look for the number on the cart and get your stuff. Simple and stress free. Pets allowed, not on seat of course. Offer captains view in VIP section if your looking to sight see or have more space to yourself. read more

Why they have so many Yelp sites is beyond me, but I am putting my review on all of them. Not happy with this ferry line, the customer service is terrible. I booked online with a card that I never use, it literally sits in my sock drawer and I use the account to pay off a balance transfer. Apparently their site was not secure, after booking my reservation on this site, with a card that I had not used elsewhere, I started receiving fraudulent charges to my credit card. Luckily one of the online merchants called to verify a large order since the shipping address did not match my information, otherwise I wouldn't know what was going on. I spent several days sorting things out with my credit card company and online merchants, then contacted the ferry line both by phone and email to let them know what was going on. After several contact attempts over several days, I finally heard back from their Vice President who denied any issue with their website. I have a feeling they will be getting a few more complaints once people get their credit card statements. I switched my reservation over to the Steamship Authority, which I should have booked to begin with because they are cheaper. I called HyLine to cancel my reservation and talk about rude, I don't know how these people are still in business! Visiting Nantucket in an offseason is a very bad idea. Most of the tourist sites and museums are closed, and all you really see are residential areas. It is very small too, and I assume most people just go for the beaches. It also seem that things are more expensive in the offseason than in the tourist seasons. Take for example, the ferry rides to Nantucket. In the offseason, it is about $80 round trip while it is only $40 in the tourist season. The only other competitor of this ferry is priced the same. It cost more than the car rental to get here from Boston. Granted it takes an extra hour to get there when paying the lower cost, it should still be an option during the offseason. Unfortunately, these ferries are just price gouging and we can't really do anything about it. It is a total rip-off. In addition, there are set times on when the ferry leaves for the island, so if you just missed the ferry, be prepared to wait hours before the next ride. Also, the ferry to Martha's Vineyard is closed during the offseason. I find it interesting that they proudly present themselves as the highest rated ferry to Nantucket. Well, there aren't a lot of options. I would have rated this as one star, but given that there are limited choices in getting to Nantucket, I will give it another half star. Worst customer service ever. My friend and I took the fast ferry from Hyannis to Nantucket on a Wednesday night and we had to park her car before boarding. She could not park in the lot that the ferry is located at and they directed her to a satellite parking lot about a mile away and was told that there was a shuttle that was going to pick her up and bring her back. The shuttle never came and I asked the parking attendant to call and have them pick her up. They were so slow and didn't seem concerned and told us we were going to miss the ferry. Luckily we got on in time after arguing for about 15 minutes. THEN we are in line to board back to Hyannis on Sunday afternoon and go to scan the tickets on our phones and it did not scan and we were told to go to the office to get paper copies. At least 6 other people were in the office trying to do the same thing we were and they would not print any tickets for the ferry that we had paid for and they would not let us on. Absolutely ridiculous that they can't get their shit together enough to hold the boat and give tickets for a reservation we had. An attendant had actually told us to take steamship which I will be doing from now on. Need to be a lot more organized with all the weddings in town. read more

First and last time I will ever board any ferry of this company. My friend and I drove 5 hours last Wednesday to board the 5:20pm fast ferry from Hyannis to Nantucket. We got there 45 mins early and was told that my prepaid parking pass was located 1 mile up the street and that there was a shuttle to drive me back. However, once i got there - there was no shuttle. Thankfully my friend had stayed back and was able to get someone over to me without missing it. Then forward over to Sunday we had tickets for the 2:15pm Nantucket to Hyannis ferry and got there 1 hour early. We were online for 45 mins and bags were taken. When the attendant went to scan our tickets he said it wasn't working and sent us to the office. We got to the office and were told that the ferry was filled and they could not do anything else for us!!! Meanwhile our tickets were prepaid weeks ago!! They were the rudest customer service reps that i have ever encountered. Along with our luggage leaving on the ferry we were unable to board no one had answers on how to retrieve it when we got back.
