It was hard to find at first because I thought it would be bigger and there are a bunch of houses blocking a clear view of it!

A harbor light Back in the early part of the 19th century most towns and harbors couldn't afford a real lighthouse so they usually just stuck a big lantern in someone's window to warn the passing ships of the land. Obviously that wasn't the best solution and as the country grew the need for real lighthouses grew along with it. By the middle of the 19th century the town of Hyannis on Cape Cod was becoming a busy shipping port so in 1849 it was decided that a lighthouse should be constructed. It was 43 feet tall and had a 5th order Fresnel Lens. The light worked well but in 1885 it was decided to add another lighthouse in front of the original to have two lights. This was a fairly popular idea at the time but never worked as intended and just ended up confusing the passing ships. The front light was soon removed and the original light was finally deactivated in 1929. The lighthouse is still standing and looks a whole lot like it did when it was built. It is now on private land but great views can be had from the Nantucket Ferry that passes only a short distance from the lighthouse.

Best views are from the harbor cruises deep-sea fishing parking lot! I don't think you can go inside- it looks like it's privately owned.

There's a lot of interesting and good information, and I liked the people. But.... The first half of the tour is in an old mini bus. The bus has tiny windows, like 4" square, and no air circulation. No fans. No air conditioning. Today was nearly 90 out by 10 am, when our tour started, and temperatures inside the bus got so hot that stepping out felt cool! You don't travel far, and then they stop for 10 minutes to talk about what's out the window. It's brutal. Ironically, the travel distances are so slim most people could walk it. But, just sitting on the bus in the heat? Yuck. The second half is in an old shed where you learn about harvesting. Again, it could be interesting, but it's a good 10° hotter, even with the fans going, and it makes it hard to focus. Or even listen. Better weather would have helped. But, we had an old lady in our tour group nearly pass out, and the guide indicated that that was not uncommon. Heck, complimentary water would be nice. Waters are a dollar. The tour is fifteen. It's all cash only.

We were served three courses for lunch but our bill at the end was for only our drinks, because the lunch cost is combined with the train ticket. If you tip only on the drinks bill, you do your server an injustice so be sure to tip extra to cover their exemplary service for the whole meal. It seems that the Cape Cod Railway might help their servers by distinguishing the cost of the meal from that of the train. Totally worth the money!

One was haddock with a lobster sauce. One was baked chicken and also eggplant Parm or a sandwich. I however chose the baked haddock, not realizing it have a lobster sauce on it, which I'm allergic to so because they cook it to order right there on the train they were able to give me one that did not have any lobster in it. The server Mary And was wonderful. She was very attentive on top of everything brought these beautiful customized bloody Mary, the girls that was evil and then she was very talkative and informative. We couldn't have much of what they were saying over the course of the ride, but every once while you catch a little hint of something they were talking about I think that they had them Talking louder or the speaker itself turned up. It might've been a little bit better. But other than that, everything was perfectly wonderful the food was exceptional and I would definitely love to take my grandkids on this ride in the future, but just not give them a lobster lol.Everything was just top
