I arrived here fairly early, and I was greeted warmly by the front counter person. He already had my name, welcomed me, and offered me towels. He gave me a short rundown of the amenities, and then set me off to exercise. It was not too busy this morning, everybody was quite friendly. It seems this is not open to the public. It did have a exclusive feel about it. Everything was really clean. And they had a full variety of exercise equipment as well as a nice outdoor pool. I jumped in the pool, even though it's freezing outside, the pool was around 80°. Sun was shining. It was definitely exhilarating to be out in the open, swimming in a heated pool, with all of the snow still surrounding the recreation center. After the swim, I jumped in the hot tub and there were a few people in the hot tub. Good conversation. It was really an enjoyable visit. I would absolutely come back here

You just pay and walk in. No chairs or benches to change into you swim suit. I just dropped trou in the bathroom and changed out. There is limited seating around the pool. The swimming pool is small but there was room enough for everyone there that day. They have a nice water slide for adults and bigger kids. They also had a little slide for the younger kids. There were plenty enough lifeguards around and warned kids when they were playing unsafe in or around the pool. The also have a little snack shack that sells ice cream, hot dogs, and other snacks. The price was cheap. I don't think they're trying to make money off people. Seems like they just want people to be happy. If I ever felt the need to take a dip in a pool, I'd go there again. Beats swimming in the irrigation canals or ditches. I don't think anyone does that anymore.

I'm up in Tahoe all the time to ski, but when the weather is really snowy…read moreand/or windy, the mountain gets closed (avalanche control, wind control, etc.) Don't fret about having nothing to do though. This facility has a number of ways to work out -- I first tried the main building which has a multi-lane running track and large number of exercise machines (treadmills, ellipticals, etc.) on the second overlooking several basketball courts below. Personally however, my primary choice for cardiovascular exercise is through swimming, and they have another building with two pools (yes, two) that are amazing. The first is a recreational pool--great for kids, but I see adults having fun there too (admittedly, I've gone down the slides several times)--kindof like a mini water park. On the other side, they have an olympic sized pool with multiple lanes, and a deep end with diving boards. There are also kickboards and pull buoys if you want to isolate your stroke and focus on kicking or pulling (as a former member of competitive swim teams, I'm all over that stuff). Their facilities are very clean and sanitary -- their locker rooms have multiple solo showers, and ample lockers. And to top it off, a day pass is very inexpensive, and they sell swim supplies (bathing suits, swim caps, towels, goggles, fins, etc) in case you either forgot yours or stumbled into this place for the first time. I'll never find myself in Tahoe without a way to get a day's worth of exercise again.

It was a bit strange today having only one person swimming in the giant pool. It was overcast and rainy, Saturday evening... I guess I was the only one that needed to do laps but, when you're face down in the water, you don't really see anyone else or talk to anyone else. This is my favorite swimming/exercise spot . Can't say enough about it. Don't forget, the membership here also allows you to go to the other Reno area pools. Including Idlewild, north Northwest and Mount Evelyn or Evelyn Mount whatever it is. The building, locker rooms, seating areas, parking lot and outdoor areas look good. If you haven't been and you are thinking it is just another community pool like Alf Sorrenson or Idelwild, it is not. This is a jewel in the Parks & Rec. Department's offerings. This facility gets bonus points for being fully self sustainable with the hot springs and solar. The rates are reasonable with discounts on Wednesday evening and Sunday. RecConnect passes start at $12 per month.
