This was my first time coming to Hyde Park Massage and Spa. The receptionist that greeted me was friendly and offered me a cup of water while I waited. I was taking in promptly at my appointment time. I received a 1-hour deep tissue massage. My massage therapist was Jeanette. She met with me before the massage started and asked me about problem areas that she needed to concentrate on and she also encouraged me to communicate with her about the pressure during the massage to ensure that I got the massage experience that I wanted. She provided tips including sitting positions, stretches, and self massage to keep problem areas from being too much of a problem. The massage was great and my body feels completely relaxed. I also received a one hour facial with one of their estheticians Aaliyah. I would have liked for her to do some pore extraction on my chin too and I will remind her if I were to meet with her the next time. My face does feel amazing. I even dozed off a couple of times. LOL:-) The decor is simple, clean, and relaxing. I enjoyed it. Oh, there is no parking on Kennedy so you have to go down one of the side streets to get in the parking lot directly behind the spa. I wish I could give this place zero stars!! We decided that this would be a great way to celebrate my soon-to-be daughter-in-law. I was so embarrassed that I invited people here!! We booked facial and massage packages for 6 people. We were offered 1/2 hour massage and 1/2 hour facial for each person for a total of $272. Because 1 person was unable to attend due to flooding from the hurricane, I asked if we could add her 1/2 hour for the bride-to-be, as I would still be charged for the services. that became chaos as no one understood what I was asking. The first 2 facials were fine, after that, the other 3 did not have their entire face done. Their hair was not pulled back and only the lower half of the face was massaged. So... only 2 of 5 were adequate. The massages were awful! No one was satisfied!! 1 customer, a larger girl, was asked if she was pregnant (She's 50), and another was told she had a weird name and was asked who would give her a name like that. (Her name is Tammy). The massage therapist was rude and rough. The massages were not relaxing or consistent. 1 family member didn't even get a massage! She was told she would have to wait until after other customers were taken care of. I paid for aroma therapy for everyone, an additional $15. The "aroma therapy" consisted of the massage therapist (if you can call her that) shaking the essential oil out of the bottle on the arm of the customer after the massage. No one got the scent they requested. I requested eucalyptus and received the lemongrass someone else requested shaken onto me. Not at all worth the $15 per person!!!!!!! I was still willing to pay because I requested the "upgrade". We thought they were doing us a favor by giving us 1/2 hour for each at a lower price, $54.50 for each person (the package usually costs $109 for a 1-hour massage and a 1-hour facial). When I went to pay, they tried to charge me for the full hour for each of us. 3 should have been charged 69.50 (25-minute facial, 25-minute massage, "aroma therapy" upgrade), 1 should have been charged $27.25 (she only received a 25-minute facial; no massage, no "aroma therapy" and the bride-to-be should have been $124 (1-hour facial, 1-hour massage, "aroma therapy"). upon check out, I was initially charged nearly $600!! They refused to charge us the initial price of $272 for the group. I paid $387 for horrible service!! The receptionist had no idea what she was doing. I also want to mention that there were ants in both the lobby/waiting room as well as the massage room. I am disgusted and want to warn anyone considering this place to find somewhere else! read more

The overall rating of the actual massage experience is 5 stars. I scheduled a deep tissue couples massage and the massages were amazing! My massage therapist was Algenise and I 100% recommend her. She was extremely attentive, had the right amount of pressure, and kept making sure I was okay and everything was to my liking throughout the massage. She was extremely nice and would definitely go back to her. I have also received a facial from Ashley a few months ago and it was great. I left feeling relaxed, & with the added microdermabrasion, my skin was the clearest it has been in a while. She worked with my skin type, asked the right questions, & constructed the facial based off of what my skin truly needed. The facial experience is also 5 stars. My one and only problem and the reason why this isn't a five star rating is due to all the problems I had with scheduling. I spoke to Janice a total of 2 times on the phone, & one more time in person & each time she told me a different price or something else than what she told me prior to me arriving. I expected to leave relaxed after my massage but it was difficult to when you get a nasty attitude from the receptionist after explaining to her what the problem was. She had to call her supervisor multiple times because she did not know what she was doing, & in turn ended up being rude to me out of frustration because she messed up. This experience made me want to cancel my membership with them. Their services are worth it if you are willing to deal with a bad receptionist. read more

Beware. I booked a 90 min deep tissue massage. What I got was knuckles pressing deeply into my ribs. It was so obvious from the start the masseuse had absolutely no idea how to give a massage. After 15- 20 min of wierdness [and immediately after the sharp rib pain] I ended the session and was told I'd have to pay for 1/2 the session. Actually, not a bad price to protect my health and safety. read more

DO NOT COME HERE. The only reason I gave this place a one star is because I couldn't give them zero stars. I had the facial done and they completely ripped of my skin. There was no manager to talk to and no other help was provided. When I insisted that I speak to the owner he called and said he was on a bike ride and wouldn't be of any help. I just moved to Tampa and have been looking for a spa. I purchased a deep tissue massage on Groupon and booked my appointment. The morning of my appointment my daughter was sick (flu) and I called the spa before they even opened, left a message and sent an email letting them know that I needed to reschedule. I finally spoke with someone around 9 and was told that they would charge me 50% of my massage for rescheduling! I again explained why I needed to reschedule.... the lady said she would speak with management and get back to me! No one ever called me and they proceeded to charge my cc. I couldn't believe it! It's not like I was a no show!! What poor service and awful customer service. I would actually give them negative stars. Save your money and find a more professional spa. read more

I get massages quite often but when I decided to try a new place today it worked against me. I came in 10 minutes early to make sure I could fill out paperwork. I tried to sign in on their computers and they weren't working. There was someone behind me who also had a 12pm appointment and we both still in the waiting room at 12:08. I asked for a relaxation massage but it really was just someone spreading oil on my back. I was in the first room closest to the entrance so I could hear when people were talking during my massage. I hate to write a review like this but I would want to know all of this before coming into a spa. The person at the front desk was trying to handle scheduling and signing people in at the same time and doing her best but someone could have helped her. read more

I've been with this organization through thick and thin. Many years ago, I'd walk up to their South Howard location (next to Hugo's, RIP!), and I must say that the experience has gotten exponentially better in the pas few years with new ownership and more regularly available massage therapists. I've never had a bad massage--all the therapists are amazing, but each is different. I never request anyone in particular, because I love them all, but you may find certain therapists more to your tastes than others. Be specific about your expectations when you book your appointment and you can't go wrong. read more

Not one to leave reviews and I have to because I had the most bizarre experience and WISH that the front desk gal would have let me know that the massage therapist I was seeing using a VERY DIFFERENT technique. My lower back has been in extreme pain so I booked a last minute appointment. (I do appreciate their agility of getting me in to see someone.) I first got in the room and laid facedown, normal. The massage therapist then started to work on my problem area. She was pressing so incredibly hard that I was saying "OW" and sitting up multiple times. I asked her if she could lighten up just a tad. Then, the hot towels that were put on my back were scalding hot. To which I then said "OMG OUCH!" again. This happened about 3x. After she "worked" on my problem area, and felt my lower-back/hip area loosen up, she then asked me to move my hips as if I was dancing. So, imagine yourself laying face down, naked, and moving your hips from side to side as fast as you can. It was VERY VERY uncomfortable. This was probably 30-40 minutes of my 50 minute massage. The last 10 minutes of the massage felt "normal". I was thinking in my head the whole time, "maybe she is a spiritual healer?". AGAIN, writing this to help you out that there are massage therapist there with VERY UNIQUE TECHNIQUES! Be aware! It was $80+ for a place that I will NEVER go to again. read more

I've always heard great things about this place, so I thought I'd get a gift card for a friend for her birthday... the website would not work to do that. I called to try and do it over the phone and was told "it would be easier for both of us if you just came in." I live 30 minutes from this location. I tried again later online and still didn't work, so I called again. I was told that if I didn't do it in person, how would I get the gift certificate? I left my number with the receptionist, told I would be contacted by management the next day. I never heard from them. I go 30 minutes out of my way on the way home from work to go in person to get the gift certificate. They didn't even have any... the gift card ID was written on a POST-IT note and given to me... So I'm unsure why this couldn't have been done over the phone. I could've written it on a post-it myself. This is completely unacceptable. I've never even gotten a service here before and now I never will. read more

What a great massage! I called late Thursday afternoon and I was able to book an appointment with Kim for that night. I was having neck pain that persisted for several weeks and my shoulder was sore from pitching baseballs to my son. Kim was able to find the knots and the relief was immediate. Decided to try out this place after a friend and I found a Groupon for a 50 min deep tissue or Swedish massage. The outside of the building is kind of dirty and grungy looking but the lobby is clean and nicely decorated. Parking was easy. There are a few parallel spots right out front and a lot right next door. We got there a few minutes early, were instructed to fill out a short form regarding health history. Our masseuses took us back to our rooms promptly on time. We were lead to quaint, cool, dark rooms with massage tables and soft music playing. Super serene. At first we both received massages over the blankets- confusing- but then they rolled them back and started the massage. In total my massage was 53 minutes and his was probably 55. So they didn't cut it short at all. My massage therapist was great. The only complaint I had was that her hands were a little cold. I'm not sure if she chose not to use hot oils or didn't use enough but other than that it was a very relaxing experience. We will definitely be back! read more

MAGIC HANDS!! I've found my personal masseuse for life. I get a massage every month (guilty pleasure, but also treat yourself!) and this was my first time here. I'm always a bit skeptical because I'm very particular about massages. You know that shaky feeling when someone tries to push hard because you ask for more pressure? Hate that. HOWEVER. My experience here with Algenise was incredible...so much so that I immediately signed up for a monthly membership because I knew I'd go back every month. The most important thing was that she really listened. I circled a few areas I wanted to focus on and she really focuses on those knots in my shoulders/traps/neck area. She masterfully felt where there was still lack of circulation and worked out all the muscle tension. The front desk person, Vivian, is also exceptionally kind. So happy I found this place and can't wait til February I'd highly recommend!! read more

I arrived to the spa 20 minutes earlier, as advised, and waited for my appointment. After my appointment was supposed to begin, I start wondering why I haven't been called and looking at my watch and at that moment is when the receptionist decides to tell me that the therapist would be 20 minutes late and if "it was alright" even after knowing this before the appointment was supposed to begin. I asked for a refund because I prepaid and I had to get wait another 20 minutes to get the refund because they didn't know what was going on and weren't clear even after speaking to the manager. They were having a side conversation while I was eating for the refund without updating me. I then ask if the refund was able to be processed and then she informed me to just call Groupon, wasting 45 minutes of my time. Save your money and potentially not being seen at all, as they run on their own time and are not respectful of yours. Overall, this location is unprofessional, disorganized, and can use a cleaning. read more
