My 8 year old daughter is tender headed and HATES having her hair done by ANYONE. A combout was miserable for her. She is a girly girl and loves her makeup and nails done. About a year ago my cousin told me about this salon in Coral Springs that helped teach her about her natural hair. She started going on and on about hydration and product build up, less is more, etc. Having seen her hair I was intrigued but hadn't had the chance to stop in. Today that changed. I'm beyond pleased with the experience. I made a first timer hydration lesson appointment with Natasha and I learned so much. A lot of things I thought I was doing right from looking up ideas from the internet was the absolute most. I wasn't getting the results I wanted and didn't feel the hydration I desperately needed. Natasha took the time to explain every step of the process from trims, to shampoo, to conditioner, to styling. She made sure to tell me about every product used through the process which I appreciated. Natasha also explained the importance of quarterly trims and suggested time lines for washes, blow outs if desired, and demonstrated the tension method for blow drying my hair. She was extremely personable, patient, and knowledgeable. I value businesses who take the time to give quality service and focus on me the customer. I felt heard through the process. Given I no longer live in South FL I can't come in as often as I would like but she has definitely provided me with the tools to take care of my hair at home. And when I do come to town I will be making appointments with her. First time here. I've been desperately searching for a place close by that really knows how to work with curly hair. I'm not too picky when it comes to cut, but I hate leaving a place with my hair looking like a frizzy mess. I found this place mentioned in a review of another salon I was thinking of trying. I did the first time appointment with Lary and she is the best thing to happen to my hair. She was so knowledgeable and friendly through the whole process. She also asked me what I expected my hair to look like when I came out, which NO ONE has asked me before, hence the voluminous yet frizzy styles I've had before. I also really liked how she offered advice based on my hair type because as my fellow curly girls know, not all curls are the same! The salon itself was easy to find, plenty of parking around, and clean! There is a doorbell to be let in, so don't be like me yanking at the door wondering if you are too early lol! read more

October 2021- Came a second time for a long overdue trim in October . Decided to do something different and get it straightened. I loved it ! Too bad it was raining that day because my hair immediately tried to revert back no matter what they tried to do . That being said , the tools that were used were awesome ( Dyson blowdryer ) . No pain or discomfort - and I usually flinch for everything . I honest think I prefer their straightening method over the curls ‍lol . But I'm coming back in 3 months for a curl & trim so we'll see . The owner released her own gel/product line recently so I'm hoping my hair actually reacts better to that product. read more

The worst natural hair salon I've been to. They use sulfate shampoo ( stops natural oils from your hair) but don't even deep condition to put the moisture back in that the shampoo stripped from you. So you are left with dry brittle hair with tons of gel applied to it. They are rude, inconsiderate and not professional at all. Please don't waste your time going here. My hair lasts two weeks with my regimen and is extremely moisturized and healthy with the amazing moisturizing products i use and moisture training techniques I've learned from my hair stylists in NY. Florida is really missing the bar when it comes to treatments and professionalism. I was really looking for a home salon here in FL but i guess i just have to travel to NY whenever i need that good good service. read more

I had the Hydra Set. The salon was inviting and comfortable. I was made to feel welcomed. I just wanted to get my feet wet to see how I felt about the Hydra experience. I was pleasantly surprised. My stylist Mariah was knowledgeable and attentive. Great job. No hard sales which I really appreciated. I received so many compliments about my hair. I was concerned that my scalp would be dry and tight but that didn't happen. My only hope is that a gel can be developed for a softer curl. My curls were a bit stiff. I'm writing this review after 4 days and my curls are still in excellent shape. read more

It's disheartening to say that I got a very bad cut. I came in with several pictures and showed that I wanted my haircut slightly past my shoulders. I was also told I will have a Balayage color where it is dark and turns light towards the bottom. My hair looks like the same color as I walked in with and my haircut has an umbrella look to it only about 2 to 3 inches below my ear but above my shoulders. I also said I wanted a lot of volume . My hair starts off flat and then expands to the bottom like I said kind of like an umbrella. It is all cut in one length which obviously would have not given me volume in the back. I also wanted bangs. My bangs are flat and then curl in the bottom. Although I was told to give it two days and it only has been one if tomorrow my hair looks better I will definitely update my review. read more

I'm not one to leave reviews but my experience was horrible. I had the worst haircut and got some of the worst advice I've gotten in my 14 years of being natural. My hair was cut after being styled with product. One side is now heavily layered, the other side has none. I also have some random uncut pieces in the back that are significantly longer so I also look like I have some sort of a tail. So now I'll be spending another $100+ dollars to get this tragic haircut fixed by someone who actually knows what they're doing. As far as the "hydra" part...no big secret, it's a steam treatment. I could have saved my $175 dollars and probably given myself a better haircut and deep conditioner. read more

I gave it a 2 star only because the staff was extremely nice. Everyone was nice, customer service was the best I've had in a very long time. However, I do wish I would have read the reviews before I went; I would have made it a point to tell tell them don't cut my hair. I expected a trim but I got a hair cut for a style that wasn't ran by me before hand. I didn't realize how much of my hair got cut until afterwards. My hair was cut 3 different times, once when I first got in the chair while it was dry, 2nd time was after it was washed, then 3rd she cut a little more after I had been under the hair dryer. She did ask after she was done if the length was okay, but at that point it was too late anyway so I said I guess. I had split ends but, not 5-6 inches worth. I expressed to the young lady that I had a trim a few weeks prior. I did want volume but not at the expense of that much of my hair length. The first thing I said that I wanted for my hair during the consultation, is that I wanted long full hair as my goal. It took me a long time to grow my hair. I did say cut what "needed" to be cut, meaning split ends, a trim. Not CUT and style my hair. I really just needed tips on how to keep it healthy. I'm still stunned every time I look in the mirror by how much of my hair was cut. The front of my hair was cut so short it looks like a bang. If you are a new customer you have to go in for a consultation first which is $71. You're asked several questions and then you're given basics tips that you could have gotten by Googling or going on YouTube. They make you book another appointment just to come back and actually get it done. I spent over $271 and I was extremely disappointed by the results. read more

This place is money hungry and lacks the professional quality to be worth what they are charging. I have been eyeing Hydra-Bar for months. I took the plunge, decided to treat myself, & booked with the owner so I would have the best hands in the house in my hair. She was more occupied discussing salon business with stylists doing chores across the salon. And I have a terrible cut that doesn't make sense as a result. She actually barely did anything...I have uneven areas... she didn't even bother to trim all of my ends. If you have some sort of a curly hair emergency they may be worth it but honestly I liked my curls better the way I had them when I went in then when I left...& I did not feel at all that the $190 I spent there was anywhere near worth it. read more

She takes her time to explain each step of the process. I am transitioning from a relaxer to all natural. I get a silk press with a steam treatment and the "boost". HydraBar was everything I expected and more. I've done my own hair for over 10 years and I decided to treat myself to a nice trim to shape and style. I've had multiple bad experiences at other natural hair salons which resulted in extreme dryness and breakage. I was skeptical going in but I was willing to give it a try to see if I can adapt to their technique. My appointment was with Kurian and she was amazing. She thoroughly explained the HydraBar technique and the reason behind it. She was thorough, understood my hair goals and offered as much help as she could and answered all of my questions. At the end of my appointment I could not believe how my hair looked.....I actually said "whose hair is this"? Lol. My hair has never looked this healthy!!!! Never!!! My curls were defined, shiny, felt crunchy but that went away in about 2 days. I have never achieved a 2 week wash and go. I tried to stretch it out as much as possible and I probably could have gotten a few more days, but I wanted to clean my hair. My only "complaint" if you want to call it that is, I would like my hair to be sectioned when washing and conditioning. My hair loves to tangle on itself and I get a lot of matting that way. This is my second time coming to the Hydra-Bar Salon. I didn't review the salon the first time I came as I wanted to try their services a second time before making a review. For my first visit I sat down with Rhonda for a consultation. She was very professional and a lot of what she discussed made sense. She was thorough, friendly and informative. I was very impressed with how everyone's hair looked when they were done. Their curls were really popping and their hair looked shiny, curly, and healthy. The technique they use on the hair creates the curls, there is no twisting which is amazing. They recommend which products to use and email you the information too. I was really happy with my results and would definitely recommend that you splurge and go. The services are expensive. However if I had known about the salon at the time I went natural I believe I would have saved myself a lot of money in the long run. Saving on products and time & effort doing my hair. My hair lasts all week, no itching or dryness on the scalp from the products they initially recommended. And I work out daily. I sweat a lot on my head and still by the end of the week my hair looks decent. My second visit, they used the Curlformer product which is the owner Rhonda's product. I noticed a slight difference in how they did the hair this time around and it seemed to me that it would be a little extra work. My hair seemed to dry quicker, however after I came out from the dryer I noticed small areas where the hair had frizzed. When I mentioned it, the young lady said that because my hair is fuller or something to that effect. She had blown out the roots a little to make the hair fuller. I liked the separation of my hair, the lightness and movement. With the other product my hair is heavy and doesn't have such ease of movement as it is a little harder. I noticed with the Curlformer that it didn't hold down my edges good and the area where it was placed turned white and is flaky. Two days later more sections of my hair has lost their curl and has become frizzy. I didn't workout the Sunday but did workout the Monday. After working out Monday my hair looked more like an afro. I have a slight curl to the hair but it is more frizzy than anything. The product that was put to lay down my edges turned very white and is now flaking more. This hairstyle won't last a week. I think if you don't workout, sweat a lot and do not have a sensitive scalp then the Curlformer is a nice product to use. It doesn't leave your hair hard and it gives your hair movement and some length. read more

If I write a review its either because it's one of two things: really good or really bad...and let's just say...You really get what you pay for. I gave the Hydrabar Salon in Coral Springs, FL a try. I would've never been able to achieve my natural curls. Not only did they educate me they showed me the proper steps and procedures on how to define my natural curl pattern and no this is far from a wash and go. They really did take their time to assess my hair and its needs and apparently my curls are not uniform because my hair lacks adequate moisture or in their case hydration. Here are some before and after pics. Note the floral shirt is me at work and my typical Anthony dickey method wash routine...now I understand why not only is it important to support small black businesses but to also invest your money in the right place. Wowwwwwwww! I think I finally found a Go-to spot for my hair; Hydra Bar is definitely the Hair SPA. The products used felt so good on my hair and were very pleasing to the senses. This is the first time in my natural hair journey that I've seen curls in my hair outside of the shower! My stylist, Alexandra, was very patient and thorough even before I arrived. After paying over $180 I honestly felt robbed. I have a lot of pride so I didn't express my opinion before I left but I hope this review helps them improve in the future. I was charged $160 for what was described as a "first time consultation" and a cut, even though this wasn't my first time it was actually my second visit to the salon. Plus an additional $23 for the small tub of product that she used in my hair. The first time I went I wasn't ready to make a drastic big chop yet. They did a rod set for $80 and it was cute but didn't last very long. Fast forward to my second visit now, I was already educated the first visit on what I had done wrong so far in my journey and what things to stay away from and so forth so the "lesson" aspect didn't really justify the higher price that I was charged for hearing the same things that I already knew. Spoiler alert- stay away from oil and use only water based products (basically buy their product that they make themselves to put in your hair). I was happy with the look of my hair and the general service I received, my main issue was the price. The stylist told me that I needed a certain brush to do my hair and I thought I heard her say this is for you when she took it out, but it wasn't. After some thought I feel like if they're going to be marketing to people like me who basically don't know much and are just starting on their journey, then why not put together an actual package for first-timers that includes all of the things that are needed? I mean really, how much could that little brush possibly cost, and even if it did have a cost, why not put their logo on it and write it off as an advertising cost? I just didn't see the value in what I had actually paid for and honestly just giving me the brush is a little thing that would have made me feel like my business was valued and I might have even come back. I had her cut off the remaining damaged hair I had left because I don't plan on going back there anymore. From someone who used to religiously go to the salon every week and pay $60-150 every time plus tip for wayyyyy more actual services to my hair I feel confident in saying that this place is NOT WORTH the price they charge. If you try to milk people for every visit instead of actually building a customer relationship where it's feasible to come back regularly then you'll lose a lot of customers in the process. You could have $180 and never see me again or you could have charged $60-80 plus the cost of the product and had a regular customer. read more

I have been natural for over six years and no one has been able to get my hair to look and feel the way it does when I leave Hydra Bar. They are truly the most amazing stylists ever. I am originally from NY and was used to getting weekly Dominican blowouts. After years of excessive pulling, extreme heat and manipulation my hair looked like it had been to hell and back. Though it was very long (mid back length) it was also very damaged. I had to cut a lot of it off but what has been growing back is a head full of healthy, full, manageable, shiny hair. The thing I love about them is that though their specialty is curls, they can still straighten hair without damaging it. I would not trust my head of hair to anyone else but them, and I gladly drive the hour from Miami to Coral Springs to get my hair "laid" by the best!
