My family and I rented 2 electric golf carts and it was really fun and we enjoyed our time but that wasn't the issue. The issue was when we went into the warehouse to get our golf carts, it was only one worker behind the counter, we were infront of these 2 couples that then skipped us and she ended up helping them first. After we spoke up, she helped us. It was a girl with brown hair, kinda tall-ish. Also, we paid for 2 electric golf carts and then she said she didn't have anymore...but by a miracle, this other girl that was KILLING IT! SAVED THE DAY! My husband and I saw a sign when we disembarked from our cruise ship that was advertising golf carts. Niall assisted us with renting one from Hydro Thunder. He provided two options, but we ultimately went with Hydro Thunder due to the price and being okay with walking about 15 minutes to the pickup spot. Me, my husband, and a friend wanted to go to a museum on Fri May 30th around 3:30pm. As we were walking out of our hotel, the Hyatt Centric, we decided we should get a golf cart because we wanted to get there pretty quickly to have more time to spend there. We went up to the booth and asked the gent how much for 2 hours for 3 people. He explained their minimum was 3 hours and that it would be a four seater, which was fine. But then he told us it would be $750. For a golf cart. For 3 hours. We declined and walked instead. As we walked, we thought that price didn't make sense so we asked the hotel for a rate sheet the next morning; it was $90 for 3 hours for a 4 seater, not $750. The gent was either trying to rip us off, or he didn't like us, not sure which. Be sure to book through the hotel, at least one of their staff is okay with trying to overcharge you. read more

The service was very very good. Picked us up at our hotel as scheduled. Cart was clean and fully charged ready to go. When leaving just dropped it off at their garage and rode us back to the Key West Shuttle. Only suggestion is request a charging cable if you're going for the day or more. Ran about 21 hours and was pretty much drained out when we turned it back in. If your hotel offers a plug to charge highly recommend it. We rented a 4 person LSV ( low speed vehicle) . I had some concern about the huge waivers that they have you sign and before I signed it I checked with my insurance to see if I was covered in a rented golf cart or LSV- I was not. my mother called her insurance company and neither did my mothers insurance cover it. my brother didn't care about the risk and signed the contract. Hydro Thunder does not offer the additional insurance option so beware that if anything happens, the damage will come out of pocket. we ended up having no issues. there was no line when we got there so we didn't have to wait. the vehicle was very clean and in good working order. the people were friendly. They tell you that you have to do all street parking and not park in parking lots- we had no issues finding parking spaces on the street but you will have to pay for them through a credit card and parking app. read more

Awful dealing with this company for a scooter rental. Had ridden scooters in the past through other companies but it had been little while. The man in charge of signing out the scooters was very inpatient and unkind. Did not seem to want to show me or my wife any of the basics behind riding their scooters, so we ended up just going with bicycle rentals for the few hours we were in town. Will never be dealing with this company on return visits again and recommend anyone wanting a smoother experience look elsewhere for scooter/bike rentals. Very disappointed , was recommended by our hotel concierge . We reserved and paid for a 6 seat electric cart as we needed all 6 seats facing forward and did not want the noise and jerkiness of a gas cart. we got an old noisy gas cart where two of us needed to sit in a rear facing, dangerous back seat. We are all over 70 and did not enjoy the vehicle at all. it also had very poor brakes. when we returned it at the end of the day and mentioned the bad brakes the man was extremely rude and dismissive . we would never recommend this company to anyone. If I could give a zero star review, I would! The good, the golf carts are great! They really are, and compared to other places on the island that we have rented from previously, these are fantastic! Our reservation was from 1 PM until 6 PM for five hours. Our ship was a little bit late coming into dock so we got there at 1:18 PM. The manager inside said he would start our reservation at 2 PM but we could pick it up now. Great, we rented for five hours 2+5 is 7 PM. I told him we would probably be back around 5:30 though because we needed to be back on board our ship by 6:30 because we were leaving Port at 7 PM when we returned the golf cart. Now for the bad: The guy outside who works for HydroThunder gave me an earful for being "late" as I returned the golf cart at 5:34 PM. He said they close at six and that's why he told us when we rented it to have it returned early. No, we didn't rent it from him. we rented it from the manager inside. I told him that our rental was from 2 to 7 and he proceeded to argue with me and tell me my ship had to be out of the port by 6:30 PM. No, I think I know what the captain of the ship said better than he does because I was on it, but he proceeded to argue with me and insult me telling me that he lives on the island and he knows more than I do. Regardless, what happens on the ship is none of his business as the rental from HydroThunder is a contractual matter. My rental contract, says from 2 to 7 PM. Don't yell at your customers and tell them that they are late when they are not. This man proceeded to argue with me to the point where I thought it was going to get physical. I do not recommend this company as when we went inside to complain about the guy outside the manager turned and walked away. The customer service of this company is abhorrent at best. Please don't rent anything from these scumbags... They notoriously rent golf carts to drunk tourist and make them sign their life away to rent the golf cart. Considering that the majority of their income comes from tourist you'd think they would do their best to make sure they provide great service.. well that is not the case with this company. Please note that EVERY golf cart they rent has the same key. This means that anyone can hop in your cart and drive it off (including the employees.) So when they rent the golf carts they try to charge you for the full purchase price of the golf cart once it is inevitably stollen. These guys our notoriously known in key west to be scammers and take advantage of drunk tourist trying to enjoy their time off from the bullshit going on in every day life. As a local please don't let these scammers theirs ruin your vacation. read more
