I called these guys 20 minutes before closing time, on a Saturday afternoon, the night after a huge snowstorm. This is after calling and visiting 3 other places that were supposedly open according to google, but actually decided to stay shut - likely because it had snowed fairly heavily. Anyway, I was lucky enough to get Elton on the phone who told me to come on in for my oil change and I got there 6 minutes later. First, he cleaned the snow off my car. Offered me a seat in the waiting room in the back of the shop. After fiddling on my phone for a bit, I decided to go and check on the status and just as I stood up off the chair Elton was walking in to let me know it was done. 15 minutes, maybe, for the oil change. Synthetic for a 2024 car - was $90. Reasonable. Not do it yourself cheap, but not outrageous either. Honestly, no appointment, weekend, bad weather, arrive and receive service immediately, friendly. I'm literally writing this immediately after leaving because they deserve the praise. Also, there was a beautiful.. I mean absolutely beautiful Chevrolet inside the garage, I'd guess from the 80's, but it could have been late 70. Heck, it could even have been early 90's, I have no idea. All I know is 20 years ago I'd call it a piece of junk but today I couldn't take my eyes off it. Funny how that happens. Anyway, I digress a second time. Hylan Auto Repair, Elton, thank you for taking care of this chore that I've had on my todo list for 2 months longer than it should have been on there. Found this place on Yelp when I needed to get a quick inspection. People that work here are very fast and organized. Was able to get in and out in 20-25 minutes compared to pretty much every other place where it could take multiple hours (seriously). Be careful with your car and watch the mechanics, because they will mess with your car to get you to pay more. Also, they will charge you more than double the average price that you can get from another auto repair shop. Do not recommend. read more

To start off, I got to know this place when my sister got a flat tire on Sunday. All the repair shops were closed including this one, but we were unsure about this one and decided to stop by. When we came over, the owner and I guess one of his workers stopped by for a meet up, and when we asked if they were open, they replied "we are closed, but what do you need?" We told them we got a flat tire and they said it will be an easy and quick fix and they will take care of it. They fixed the flat tire in about 5-10 minutes. Of course we left them a tip and moved on. So in the house hold we have 3 cars, and they service all three of them. Stopped by for a ac problem with my Honda CR-V. With Acura MDX stopped by for actually all the lights showing up on the dash board and the car was being unresponsive. At the same time we changed disk brakes and brake pads. It ended up costing about $400, and I expected way more. The disk brakes alone costs like $300. Overall this place is very reliable and affordable! They will take care of you as you are a family member! They will do a check up and let you know what's wrong before starting any work. You can bring your own parts and they will charge you for the labor only. That's why I give them 5 stars and would recommend to everyone on the island and near by! So now anytime we have any issue with the car we always come over here. And also we always recommend this place. read more

NYS Inspection. Really nice, understanding staff- not pushy. My vehicle is two years old but worn from driving through construction here on the Island and snow (especially upstate). Otherwise my car is in operable and functional condition. I appreciate that I was given recommendations for the future safe operation of my vehicle, but not pressured into purchasing unnecessary​ items or servicing. Was in and out in about 15 mins. For some reason, I always passed this shop by thinking it's one of those knock off places that are all over these days. My mistake. These guys have always been very kind and helpful when my car was in trouble, twice now: 1. When dealer overfilled my oil level and on my way home, the car started giving warnings. I had no choice but to stop by the nearest shop to ensure I don't mess up my engine or blow a gasket. These guys took me right in and adjusted oil levels to norm. 2. And today, I had a metal valve stem cover which corroded onto the stem and couldn't be unscrewed, so I was not able to fill my tire with air as it was low and thought Id need the whole valve replaced. I tried unscrewing it with pliers, WD-40, and torch heat application to no avail. So I stopped by this place again, remembering how they took care of me before, and was not disappointed. Steven was able to quickly remove the corroded stem cover and solve the problem in a few minutes, when if he wanted to be dishonest and make more money, he could have told me I need to replace the whole stem, take tire off, balance, etc. I know these are minor things, but when a shop is willing to help you with such care on minimal issues, you know they are not greedy and truly care about the customer and the car. I will now seriously consider to come here for more of my car needs, e.g. alignment, etc. Don't pass them by, they are great people and great mechanics! read more

One of the owners, Steve, used to be at the repair shop on Tysen's and Hylan at the Shell Gas Station. After it closed, we followed Steve to this new shop on Hylan and Burbank. Steve has serviced all my cars, my brother's cars and my mother's cars since 1995! Steve has known me since I was 6 years old and I always remember him treating my mother very well when she would bring her cars in. Now, as a 24 year old, we still bring our cars to him and his very competent crew. After nearly 20 years, I can tell you you don't have to worry when you bring your car in. I've had everything from brake jobs, flats, inspections, oil changes to repairs like a loose engine (don't ask). I trust them more than the yahoos at those Staten Island dealership service centers. read more

this guy is a liar and a thief! overcharged for an oil change like I've never seen in my life. the sign outside says $45.95 for a full synthetic oil and filter change including 5 qts of oil. my car takes 5.8 and he charged $90 without ever giving me the heads up that it would be more . He told me that he had to get the filter (which he said was in stock when I called) and the filter was $27 plus the extra oil made it double the price that was posted. He showed me the receipt for the filter and he paid $11 for it and charged me $27. it's guys like this that make it hard to trust a mechanic and shop. Couple months ago I had my car inspected, on the way home, the break was total gone, my daughter almost got accident. 3 Day ago, my car wouldn't start, they changed the starter, on the next day, we tried to test the car, omg.. the running belt came out, the car broke out on highway. 3 yrs ago my car broke down in front of this place UNFORTUNATELY! Waited for 3 hrs with my infant and 5 yr old. I paid about $430 for a new radiator. They claimed they had to go somewhere to get it. No problem, I waited. The car worked all this time and now I'm having an issue with it and my mechanic tells me the radiator was never even changed. They repaired mine and never gave me a new one. That was not what I signed up for. I didn't know any better to check and was so relieved to have my car back to get home and now I see how they basically screwed me and I already have to replace it. Like another customer I just viewed, I wish I could give this place a zero star rating. The owner and I spoke on several occasions regarding my BMW M-6. My vehicle was stalling and needed an emissions adjustment. Bob texted me and told me I needed a new battery before he could look further into the issue. In the end, he charged me $650 just to give me an estimate for what was wrong with my apparent SMG module issue. When my vehicle was returned to me it had a metal tow hook in the front. I was missing my cap once I removed the hook. I looked in my glove compartment and the entire unit fell to the floor. I sent Bob a video of my glove compartment and asked why did he insert a tow hook if the tow truck company used a flatbed. He assured he would order me a "painted cap" in my vehicle color so he could send "this very important part" to me. Advised it would take two weeks. It's been two months. As for the new battery he claims was installed in my trunk, the vehicle no longer chirps when I attempt to enter it meaning the battery has either died or is having issues with the installation. I never had issues with my prior battery in six years before he alerted me of it being low. Now, I can't even get into my trunk as the vehicle has no power and wasn't running/starting when he returned it to me to begin with. I think Bob overcharged me for an estimate and was very unprofessional in text messages after he received payment. I am in the process of taking him and his establishment to Small Claims Court. read more

I tried this place 3 times and each time was terrible. The first time my alternator went and they wanted to charge me $75 to tow it and I was 2 blocks away. The reason my alternator went was because I had a leak in my power steering hose which had messed up my previous alternator 2 days prior to that event and I had it replaced at another shop for about 180. They informed me of the leak and told me that there was a leak a leak somewhere that I should get the under carriage cleaned so they could locate the leak and that I shouldn't drive without fixing the leak for more than a week.2 days later the same problem happened, but I was stuck next to this shop. For the same job they charged me over 300 and another 100 for replacing the leaking hose. Fast forward 1 month later and I am back again with a minor whining nose in my rearend. The mechanic tell me that I needed new wheel bearings because they were the source of the noise and that the noise would be gone after they replaced them. I came back 2 hours later and the noise is still there and they try to act as if they couldn't hear the noise. They charged me about $450 for this by the way and when I asked why my rearend was still making a noise they told me that they have no idea and that they would have to take apart the entire rearend to find the source of the noise. When I asked how much would that cost they replied that it would be around 7-800 just to find out what was causing the noise. This wasn't even the cost of repairs. I took it to a different shop and they diagnosed my noise in 10 minutes and didn't require "7-800" down to find the noise. They did it for free and gained my loyal service. I guess they get all of their money from ripping off people off who get stuck by the plazas there and can't make it to their own mechanics. read more

We had a screw stuck in our tire and I was desperately calling places because it was 6pm and most places were closed. I called and was happy when they answered but the man who answered said they were closing. I told him I had a flat tire and could be there in 10 minutes. He told me to come.
